21 And Isaac entreated Yahweh for his wife, because she was barren; and Yahweh was entreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If it be so, why am I thus?” And she went to inquire of Yahweh.

22 ἐσκίρτων δὲ τὰ παιδία ἐν αὐτῇ· εἶπεν δέ, εἰ οὕτως μοι μέλλει γίνεσθαι, ἵνα τί μοι τοῦτο;
22 ἐσκίρτων δὲ τὰ παιδία ἐν αὐτῇ· εἶπε δέ, εἰ οὕτω μοι μέλλει γίνεσθαι, ἵνα τί μοι τοῦτο;
22 While the children were kicking within her, she said, “If it is going to be with me, why is this to me?” And she went to inquire of the Lord. 22 While the children were kicking within her, she said, “If it is going to be with me, why is this to me?” And she went to inquire of the Lord.

23 And Yahweh said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from your bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.”

23 And the Lord said to her, “There are two nations in your womb, and two peoples shall be separated from your belly, and one people shall surpass a people, and the greater will be enslaved to the lesser.” 23 And the Lord said to her, “There are two nations in your womb, and two peoples shall be separated from your belly, and one people shall surpass a people, and the greater will be enslaved to the lesser.”

24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

24 And the days were fulfilled that she gives birth, and she had twins in her belly. 24 And the days were fulfilled that she gives birth, and she had twins in her belly.

25 And the first came out red, all over like a hairy garment; and they called his name Esau.

25 And the first son came out red, hairy skin all over; and she called his name Hēsau. 25 And the first son came out red, hairy skin all over; and she called his name Hēsau.

26 And after that, his brother came out, and his hand took hold on Esau’s heel; and his name was called Jacōb; and Isaac was 60 years old when she gave birth to them.

26 And after this, his brother came out, and his hand seized the heel of Hēsau; and she called his name Jacōb. And Isaac was 60 years old when Rhebekka gave birth to them. 26 And after this, his brother came out, and his hand seized the heel of Hēsau; and she called his name Jacōb. And Isaac was 60 years old when Rhebekka gave birth to them.

27 And the boys grew; and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacōb was a plain man, dwelling in tents.

27 And the lads grew, and Hēsau was a man skilled to hunt, rugged; and Jacōb a simple man, living at home. 27 And the lads grew, and Hēsau was a man skilled to hunt, rugged; and Jacōb a simple man, living at home.

28 And Isaac loved Esau, because he ate of his venison; but Rebekah loved Jacōb.

28 And Isaac loved Hēsau, because his venison was food for him; but Rhebekka loved Jacōb. 28 And Isaac loved Hēsau, because his venison was food for him; but Rhebekka loved Jacōb.

29 And Jacōb cooked a stew; and Esau came from the field, and he was faint.

29 And Jacōb cooked a stew, and Hēsau came out of the plain, exhausted. 29 And Jacōb cooked a stew, and Hēsau came out of the plain, exhausted.

30 And Esau said to Jacōb, “Feed me, please, with that same red stew; for I am faint”; therefore was his name called Edom.

30 And Hēsau said to Jacōb, “Let me taste from that red stew, because I am fainting;” therefore his name was called Edōm. 30 And Hēsau said to Jacōb, “Let me taste from that red stew, because I am fainting;” therefore his name was called Edōm.

31 And Jacōb said, “Sell me this day your birthright.”

31 And Jacōb said to Hēsau, “Sell me today your birthright to me.” 31 And Jacōb said to Hēsau, “Sell me today your birthright to me.”

32 And Esau said, “Behold, I am at the point to die; and what profit shall this birthright do to me?”

32 εἶπεν δὲ Ἡσαῦ, ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ πορεύομαι τελευτᾶν, καὶ ἵνα τί μοι ταῦτα τὰ πρωτοτόκια; 32 καὶ εἶπε Ἡσαῦ· ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ πορεύομαι τελευτᾶν, καὶ ἵνα τί μοι ταῦτα τὰ πρωτοτόκια;
32 And Hēsau said, “Look! I am going to die, and what good does this birthright do for me?” 32 And Hēsau said, “Look! I am going to die, and what good does this birthright do for me?”

33 And Jacōb said, “Swear to me this day”; and he swore to him; and he sold his birthright to Jacōb.

33 And Jacōb said to him, “Solemnly promise to me today.” And he solemnly promised to him. And Hēsau sold his birthright to Jacōb. 33 And Jacōb said to him, “Solemnly promise to me today.” And he solemnly promised to him. And Hēsau sold his birthright to Jacōb.

34 Then Jacōb gave Esau bread and stew of lentils; and he ate and drank, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright.

34 And to Hēsau, Jacōb gave bread and stew of lentils; and he ate and drank, then he arose and departed; so Hēsau slighted his birthright. 34 And to Hēsau, Jacōb gave bread and stew of lentils; and he ate and drank, then he arose and departed; so Hēsau slighted his birthright.
