I Kings

1 Then the word of Yahweh came to Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha, saying,

וַיְהִי דְבַר ־ יְהוָה אֶל ־ יֵהוּא בֶן ־ חֲנָנִי עַל ־ בַּעְשָׁא לֵאמֹר׃

1 καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος κυρίου ἐν χειρὶ Ἰοὺ υἱοῦ Ἁνανὶ πρὸς Βαασὰ	1 Καὶ ἐγένετο λόγος Κυρίου ἐν χειρὶ Ἰοὺ υἱοῦ Ἀνανὶ πρὸς Βαασά·

2 Forasmuch as I exalted you out of the dust, and made you prince over my people Israēl; and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam, and have made my people Israēl to sin, to provoke me to anger with their sins;

יַעַן אֲשֶׁר הֲרִימֹתִיךָ מִן ־ הֶעָפָר וָאֶתֶּנְךָ נָגִיד עַל עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל וַתֵּלֶךְ בְּדֶרֶךְ יָרָבְעָם וַתַּחֲטִא אֶת ־ עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְהַכְעִיסֵנִי בְּחַטֹּאתָם׃

2 ἀνθ’ ὧν ὕψωσά σὲ ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς καὶ ἔδωκά σὲ ἡγούμενον ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν μου Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἐπορεύθης ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ Ἰεροβοὰμ καὶ ἐξήμαρτες τὸν λαόν μου τὸν Ἰσραὴλ τοῦ παροργίσαι με ἐν τοῖς ματαίοις αὐτῶν,	2 ἀνθ’ ὧν ὕψωσά σε ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς καὶ ἔδωκά σε ἡγούμενον ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν μου Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἐπορεύθης ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ Ἱεροβοὰμ καὶ ἐξήμαρτες τὸν λαόν μου τὸν Ἰσραήλ, τοῦ παροργίσαι με ἐν τοῖς ματαίοις αὐτῶν,

3 Behold, I will take away the posterity of Baasha, and the posterity of his house; and will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

הִנְנִי מַבְעִיר אַחֲרֵי בַעְשָׁא וְאַחֲרֵי בֵיתֹו וְנָתַתִּי אֶת ־ בֵּיתְךָ כְּבֵית יָרָבְעָם בֶּן ־ נְבָט׃

3 ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐξεγείρω ὀπίσω Βαασὰ καὶ ὄπισθεν τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ καὶ δώσω τὸν οἶκόν σου ὡς τὸν οἶκον Ἰεροβοὰμ υἱοῦ Ναβάτ·	3 ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐξεγείρω ὀπίσω Βαασὰ καὶ ὄπισθεν τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ καὶ δώσω τὸν οἶκόν σου ὡς τὸν οἶκον Ἱεροβοὰμ υἱοῦ Ναβάτ·

4 Him who dies of Baasha in the city shall the dogs eat; and him who dies of his in the fields shall the fowls of the air eat.

הַמֵּת לְבַעְשָׁא בָּעִיר יֹאכְלוּ הַכְּלָבִים וְהַמֵּת לֹו בַּשָּׂדֶה יֹאכְלוּ עֹוף הַשָּׁמָיִם׃

4 τὸν τεθνηκότα τοῦ Βαασὰ ἐν τῇ πόλει, καταφάγονται αὐτὸν οἱ κύνες, καὶ τὸν τεθνηκότα αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ, καταφάγονται αὐτὸν τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ.	4 τὸν τεθνηκότα τοῦ Βαασὰ ἐν τῇ πόλει καταφάγονται αὐτὸν οἱ κύνες, καὶ τὸν τεθνηκότα αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ καταφάγονται αὐτὸν τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ.

5 Now the rest of the acts of Baasha, and what he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israēl?

וְיֶתֶר דִּבְרֵי בַעְשָׁא וַאֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה וּגְבוּרָתֹו הֲלֹא ־ הֵם כְּתוּבִים עַל ־ סֵפֶר דִּבְרֵי הַיָּמִים לְמַלְכֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

5 καὶ τὰ λοιπὰ τῶν λόγων Βαασὰ καὶ πάντα, ἃ ἐποίησεν, καὶ αἱ δυναστεῖαι αὐτοῦ, οὐκ ἰδοὺ ταῦτα γεγραμμένα ἐν βιβλίῳ λόγων τῶν ἡμερῶν τῶν βασιλέων Ἰσραήλ;	5 καὶ τὰ λοιπὰ τῶν λόγων Βαασὰ καὶ πάντα ἃ ἐποίησε, καὶ αἱ δυναστεῖαι αὐτοῦ, οὐκ ἰδοὺ ταῦτα γεγραμμένα ἐν βιβλίῳ λόγων τῶν ἡμερῶν τῶν βασιλέων Ἰσραήλ;

6 So Baasha slept with his fathers, and was buried in Tirzah; and Elah his son reigned in his stead.

וַיִּשְׁכַּב בַּעְשָׁא עִם ־ אֲבֹתָיו וַיִּקָּבֵר בְּתִרְצָה וַיִּמְלֹךְ אֵלָה בְנֹו תַּחְתָּיו׃

6 καὶ ἐκοιμήθη Βαασὰ μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ καὶ θάπτεται ἐν Θερσά, καὶ βασιλεύει Ἠλὰ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀντ’ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ εἰκοστῷ ἔτει βασιλέως Ἀσά.	6 καὶ ἐκοιμήθη Βαασὰ μετὰ τῶν πατέρων αὐτοῦ καὶ θάπτεται ἐν Θερσά, καὶ βασιλεύει Ἠλὰ υἱὸς αὐτοῦ ἀντ’ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ εἰκοστῷ ἔτει βασιλέως Ἀσά.

7 And also by the hand of the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani came the word of Yahweh against Baasha, and against his house, even for all the evil things that he did in the sight of Yahweh, in provoking him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam; and because he killed him.

וְגַם בְּיַד ־ יֵהוּא בֶן ־ חֲנָנִי הַנָּבִיא דְּבַר ־ יְהוָה הָיָה אֶל ־ בַּעְשָׁא וְאֶל ־ בֵּיתֹו וְעַל כָּל ־ הָרָעָה אֲשֶׁר ־ עָשָׂה בְּעֵינֵי יְהוָה לְהַכְעִיסֹו בְּמַעֲשֵׂה יָדָיו לִהְיֹות כְּבֵית יָרָבְעָם וְעַל אֲשֶׁר ־ הִכָּה אֹתֹו׃ פ

7 καὶ ἐν χειρὶ Ἰοὺ υἱοῦ Ἁνανὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος ἐπὶ Βαασὰ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ πᾶσαν τὴν κακίαν, ἣν ἐποίησεν ἐνώπιον κυρίου τοῦ παροργίσαι αὐτὸν ἐν τοῖς ἔργοις τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ, τοῦ εἶναι κατὰ τὸν οἶκον Ἰεροβοὰμ καὶ ὑπὲρ τοῦ πατάξαι αὐτόν.	7 καὶ ἐν χειρὶ Ἰοὺ υἱοῦ Ἀνανὶ ἐλάλησε Κύριος ἐπὶ Βαασὰ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ πᾶσαν τὴν κακίαν, ἣν ἐποίησεν ἐνώπιον Κυρίου τοῦ παροργίσαι αὐτὸν ἐν τοῖς ἔργοις τῶν χειρῶν αὐτοῦ, τοῦ εἶναι κατὰ τὸν οἶκον Ἱεροβοάμ, καὶ ὑπὲρ τοῦ πατάξαι αὐτόν.

8 In the 26th year of Asa king of Judah began Elah the son of Baasha to reign over Israēl in Tirzah, two years.

בִּשְׁנַת עֶשְׂרִים וָשֵׁשׁ שָׁנָה לְאָסָא מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָה מָלַךְ אֵלָה בֶן ־ בַּעְשָׁא עַל ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּתִרְצָה שְׁנָתָיִם׃

8 καὶ Ἠλὰ υἱὸς Βαασὰ ἐβασίλευσεν ἐπὶ Ἰσραὴλ δύο ἔτη ἐν Θερσά.	8 Καὶ Ἠλὰ υἱὸς Βαασὰ ἐβασίλευσεν ἐπὶ Ἰσραὴλ δύο ἔτη ἐν Θερσά.

9 And his servant Zimri, captain of half his chariots, conspired against him, as he was in Tirzah, drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza steward of his house in Tirzah.

וַיִּקְשֹׁר עָלָיו עַבְדֹּו זִמְרִי שַׂר מַחֲצִית הָרָכֶב וְהוּא בְתִרְצָה שֹׁתֶה שִׁכֹּור בֵּית אַרְצָא אֲשֶׁר עַל ־ הַבַּיִת בְּתִרְצָה׃

9 καὶ συνέστρεψεν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν Ζαμβρὶ ὁ ἄρχων τῆς ἡμίσους τῆς ἵππου, καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν ἐν Θερσὰ πίνων μεθύων ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ Ὠσὰ τοῦ οἰκονόμου ἐν Θερσά·	9 καὶ συνέστρεψεν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν Ζαμβρὶ ὁ ἄρχων τῆς ἡμίσους τῆς ἵππου, καὶ αὐτὸς ἦν ἐν Θερσὰ πίνων μεθύων ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ Ὡσὰ τοῦ οἰκονόμου ἐν Θερσά.

10 And Zimri went in and smote him, and killed him, in the 27th year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his stead.

וַיָּבֹא זִמְרִי וַיַּכֵּהוּ וַיְמִיתֵהוּ בִּשְׁנַת עֶשְׂרִים וָשֶׁבַע לְאָסָא מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָה וַיִּמְלֹךְ תַּחְתָּיו׃

10 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν Ζαμβρὶ καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐθανάτωσεν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἀντ’ αὐτοῦ.	10 καὶ εἰσῆλθε Ζαμβρὶ καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐθανάτωσεν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἀντ’ αὐτοῦ.

11 And it happened, when he began to reign, as soon as he sat on his throne, that he killed all the house of Baasha: he left him not one who pisses against a wall, neither of his kinsfolks, nor of his friends.

וַיְהִי בְמָלְכֹו כְּשִׁבְתֹּו עַל ־ כִּסְאֹו הִכָּה אֶת ־ כָּל ־ בֵּית בַּעְשָׁא לֹא ־ הִשְׁאִיר לֹו מַשְׁתִּין בְּקִיר וְגֹאֲלָיו וְרֵעֵהוּ׃

11 καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ βασιλεῦσαι αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ καθίσαι αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπάταξεν ὅλον τὸν οἶκον Βαασὰ	11 καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ βασιλεῦσαι αὐτὸν ἐν τῷ καθίσαι αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπάταξεν ὅλον τὸν οἶκον Βαασὰ

12 Thus did Zimri destroy all the house of Baasha, according to the word of Yahweh, which he spoke against Baasha by Jehu the prophet,

וַיַּשְׁמֵד זִמְרִי אֵת כָּל ־ בֵּית בַּעְשָׁא כִּדְבַר יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר אֶל ־ בַּעְשָׁא בְּיַד יֵהוּא הַנָּבִיא׃

12 κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμα, ὃ ἐλάλησεν κύριος ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον Βαασὰ πρὸς Ἰοὺ τὸν προφήτην	12 κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμα, ὃν ἐλάλησε Κύριος ἐπὶ τὸν οἶκον Βαασά, πρὸς Ἰοὺ τὸν προφήτην
12 according to the word that the Lord spoke to Jou the prophet against the house of Baasa,	12 according to the word which the Lord spoke to Jou the prophet against the house of Baasa,

13 For all the sins of Baasha, and the sins of Elah his son, by which they sinned, and by which they made Israēl to sin, in provoking Yahweh Elohim of Israēl to anger with their vanities.

אֶל כָּל ־ חַטֹּאות בַּעְשָׁא וְחַטֹּאות אֵלָה בְנֹו אֲשֶׁר חָטְאוּ וַאֲשֶׁר הֶחֱטִיאוּ אֶת ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל לְהַכְעִיס אֶת ־ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּהַבְלֵיהֶם׃

13 περὶ πασῶν τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν Βαασὰ καὶ Ἠλὰ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ, ὡς ἐξήμαρτεν τὸν Ἰσραὴλ τοῦ παροργίσαι κύριον τὸν θεὸν Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τοῖς ματαίοις αὐτῶν.	13 περὶ πασῶν τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν Βαασὰ καὶ Ἠλὰ τοῦ υἱοῦ αὐτοῦ, ὡς ἐξήμαρτε τὸν Ἰσραὴλ τοῦ παροργίσαι Κύριον τὸν Θεὸν Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τοῖς ματαίοις αὐτῶν.

15 In the 27th year of Asa king of Judah did Zimri reign seven days in Tirzah. And the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines.

בִּשְׁנַת עֶשְׂרִים וָשֶׁבַע שָׁנָה לְאָסָא מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָה מָלַךְ זִמְרִי שִׁבְעַת יָמִים בְּתִרְצָה וְהָעָם חֹנִים עַל ־ גִּבְּתֹון אֲשֶׁר לַפְּלִשְׁתִּים׃

15 καὶ Ζαμβρὶ ἐβασίλευσεν ἑπτὰ ἡμέρας ἐν Θερσά. καὶ ἡ παρεμβολὴ Ἰσραὴλ ἐπὶ Γαβαθὼν τὴν τῶν ἀλλοφύλων,	15 Καὶ Ζαμβρὶ ἐβασίλευεν ἐν Θερσὰ ἡμέρας ἑπτά. καὶ ἡ παρεμβολὴ Ἰσραὴλ ἐπὶ Γαβαθὼν τὴν τῶν ἀλλοφύλων,

16 And the people who were encamped heard say, Zimri has conspired, and has also slain the king; therefore all Israēl made Omri, the captain of the army, king over Israēl that day in the camp.

וַיִּשְׁמַע הָעָם הַחֹנִים לֵאמֹר קָשַׁר זִמְרִי וְגַם הִכָּה אֶת ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיַּמְלִכוּ כָל ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶת ־ עָמְרִי שַׂר ־ צָבָא עַל ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל בַּיֹּום הַהוּא בַּמַּחֲנֶה׃

16 καὶ ἤκουσεν ὁ λαὸς ἐν τῇ παρεμβολῇ λεγόντων συνεστράφη Ζαμβρὶ καὶ ἔπαισεν τὸν βασιλέα· καὶ ἐβασίλευσαν ἐν Ἰσραὴλ τὸν Ἀμβρὶ τὸν ἡγούμενον τῆς στρατιᾶς ἐπὶ Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐν τῇ παρεμβολῇ.	16 καὶ ἤκουσεν ὁ λαὸς ἐν τῇ παρεμβολῇ λεγόντων· συνεστράφη Ζαμβρὶ καὶ ἔπαισε τὸν βασιλέα· καὶ ἐβασίλευσαν ἐν Ἰσραὴλ τὸν Ἀμβρὶ τὸν ἡγούμενον τῆς στρατιᾶς ἐπὶ Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ ἐν τῇ παρεμβολῇ.
16 And the people in the army heard, saying, Zambri has conspired and smitten the king. 17 And Omri went up from Gibbethon, and all Israēl with him, and they besieged Tirzah.

וַיַּעֲלֶה עָמְרִי וְכָל ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל עִמֹּו מִגִּבְּתֹון וַיָּצֻרוּ עַל ־ תִּרְצָה׃

17 καὶ ἀνέβη Ἀμβρὶ καὶ πᾶς Ἰσραὴλ μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἐκ Γαβαθὼν καὶ περιεκάθισαν ἐπὶ Θερσά.	17 καὶ ἀνέβη Ἀμβρὶ καὶ πᾶς Ἰσραὴλ μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἐκ Γαβαθὼν καὶ περιεκάθισαν ἐπὶ Θερσά.

18 And it happened, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the palace of the king’s house, and burned the king’s house over him with fire, and died,

וַיְהִי כִּרְאֹות זִמְרִי כִּי ־ נִלְכְּדָה הָעִיר וַיָּבֹא אֶל ־ אַרְמֹון בֵּית ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ וַיִּשְׂרֹף עָלָיו אֶת ־ בֵּית ־ מֶלֶךְ בָּאֵשׁ וַיָּמֹת׃

18 καὶ ἐγενήθη ὡς εἶδεν Ζαμβρὶ ὅτι προκατείλημπται αὐτοῦ ἡ πόλις, καὶ εἰσπορεύεται εἰς ἄντρον τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἐνεπύρισεν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν τὸν οἶκον τοῦ βασιλέως ἐν πυρὶ καὶ ἀπέθανεν	18 καὶ ἐγενήθη ὡς εἶδε Ζαμβρὶ ὅτι προκατείληπται αὐτοῦ ἡ πόλις, καὶ πορεύεται εἰς ἄντρον τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἐνεπύρισεν ἐπ’ αὐτὸν τὸν οἶκον τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ἀπέθανεν
