Deuteronomy

1 “If someone is found slain in the land which Yahweh your Elohim gives you to possess, lying in the field, and it isn’t known who has slain him,

1 Ἐὰν δὲ εὑρεθῇ τραυματίας ἐν τῇ γῇ, ᾗ κύριος ὁ θεός σου δίδωσίν σοί κληρονομῆσαι, πεπτωκὼς ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ καὶ οὐκ οἴδασιν τὸν πατάξαντα,	1 Ἐὰν δὲ εὑρεθῇ τραυματίας ἐν τῇ γῇ, ᾗ Κύριος ὁ Θεός σου δίδωσί σοι κληρονομῆσαι, πεπτωκὼς ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ καὶ οὐκ οἴδασι τὸν πατάξαντα,

5 And the priests, the sons of Levi shall come near; for them Yahweh your Elohim has chosen to minister to him, and to bless in the name of Yahweh; and by their word shall every controversy and every stroke be tried.

8 Be merciful, Oh Yahweh, to your people Israēl, whom you have redeemed, and don’t lay innocent blood to your people of Israēl’s charge. And the blood shall be forgiven them.

9 So you shall put away the guilt of innocent blood from among you, when you shall do what is right in the sight of Yahweh.

10 When you go forth to war against your enemies, and Yahweh your Elohim has delivered them into your hands, and you have taken them captive,

14 And it shall be, if you have no delight in her, then you shall let her go wherever she wants; but you shall not sell her at all for money, you shall not make merchandise of her, because you have humbled her.

14 And it shall be, if you don’t want her, you shall send her away free, and by a sale she shall not be sold for money. 15 If a man has two wives, one beloved, and another hated, and they have born him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son is hers who was hated.

15 ἐὰν δὲ γένωνται ἀνθρώπῳ δύο γυναῖκες, μία αὐτῶν ἠγαπημένη καὶ μία αὐτῶν μισουμένη, καὶ τέκωσιν αὐτῷ ἡ ἠγαπημένη καὶ ἡ μισουμένη, καὶ γένηται υἱὸς πρωτότοκος τῆς μισουμένης,	15 Ἐὰν δὲ γένωνται ἀνθρώπῳ δύο γυναῖκες, μία αὐτῶν ἠγαπημένη καὶ μία αὐτῶν μισουμένη, καὶ τέκωσιν αὐτῷ ἡ ἠγαπημένη καὶ ἡ μισουμένη καὶ γένηται υἱὸς πρωτότοκος τῆς μισουμένης,

18 If a man has a stubborn and rebellious son, who won’t obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and who, when they have chastened him, won’t listen to them,

18 ἐὰν δέ τινι ᾖ υἱὸς ἀπειθὴς καὶ ἐρεθιστὴς οὐχ ὑπακούων φωνὴν πατρὸς καὶ φωνὴν μητρὸς καὶ παιδεύσωσιν αὐτὸν καὶ μὴ εἰσακούῃ αὐτῶν,	18 Ἐὰν δέ τινι ᾖ υἱὸς ἀπειθὴς καὶ ἐρεθιστής, οὐχ ὑπακούων φωνὴν πατρὸς καὶ φωνὴν μητρός, καὶ παιδεύωσιν αὐτὸν καὶ μὴ εἰσακούῃ αὐτῶν,

20 And they shall say to the men of his city, “This son of ours is disobedient and provocative. He doesn’t obey our voice. 21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he dies; so you shall put evil away from among you; and all Israēl shall hear, and fear.

21 καὶ λιθοβολήσουσιν αὐτὸν οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς πόλεως αὐτοῦ ἐν λίθοις, καὶ ἀποθανεῖται· καὶ ἐξαρεῖς τὸν πονηρὸν ἐξ ὑμῶν αὐτῶν, καὶ οἱ ἐπίλοιποι ἀκούσαντες φοβηθήσονται.	21 καὶ λιθοβολήσουσιν αὐτὸν οἱ ἄνδρες τῆς πόλεως αὐτοῦ ἐν λίθοις, καὶ ἀποθανεῖται· καὶ ἐξαρεῖς τὸν πονηρὸν ἐξ ὑμῶν αὐτῶν, καὶ οἱ ἐπίλοιποι ἀκούσαντες φοβηθήσονται.

22 And if a man has committed a sin worthy of death, and he is put to death, and you hang him on a tree,

23 his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall certainly bury him that day; (for he who is hanged is accursed of God;) that your land isn’t defiled, which Yahweh your Elohim gives you for an inheritance.”

23 οὐκ ἐπικοιμηθήσεται τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τοῦ ξύλου, ἀλλὰ ταφῇ θάψετε αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ, ὅτι κεκατηραμένος ὑπὸ θεοῦ πᾶς κρεμάμενος ἐπὶ ξύλου· καὶ οὐ μιανεῖτε τὴν γῆν, ἣν κύριος ὁ θεός σου δίδωσίν σοί ἐν κλήρῳ.	23 οὐ κοιμηθήσεται τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τοῦ ξύλου, ἀλλὰ ταφῇ θάψετε αὐτὸ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ, ὅτι κεκατηραμένος ὑπὸ Θεοῦ πᾶς κρεμάμενος ἐπὶ ξύλου· καὶ οὐ μὴ μιανεῖτε τὴν γῆν, ἣν Κύριος ὁ Θεός σου δίδωσί σοι ἐν κλήρῳ.
23 his body shall not spend the night on the tree, but with burial you shall bury him that same day, because anyone hanging on a tree has been cursed by a god. And you shall not defile the land that your Lord God is giving you as an allotment.	23 his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall by all means bury it in that day; for everyone who is hanged on a tree is cursed of God; and you shall by no means defile the land which the Lord your God gives you for an inheritance.
