I Samuel

1 And Samuel said to all Israēl, Behold, I have listened to your voice in all that you said to me, and have made a king over you.

1 καὶ εἶπεν Σαμουὴλ πρὸς πάντα ἄνδρα Ἰσραὴλ ἰδοὺ ἤκουσα φωνῆς ὑμῶν εἰς πάντα, ὅσα εἴπατέ μοι, καὶ ἐβασίλευσα ἐφ’ ὑμᾶς βασιλέα.	1 Καὶ εἶπε Σαμουὴλ πρὸς πάντα Ἰσραήλ· ἰδοὺ ἤκουσα φωνῆς ὑμῶν εἰς πάντας, ὅσα εἴπατέ μοι, καὶ ἐβασίλευσα ἐφ’ ὑμᾶς βασιλέα.

3 Behold, here I am: witness against me before Yahweh, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose donkey have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind my eyes with it? and I will restore it you.

3 Look! Here I am; answer against me before the Lord and before his anointed; whose calf have I taken, or whose donkey have I taken, or whom of you have I oppressed, or whom have I mistreated, or from whose hand have I taken a bribe, even a sandal? Answer against me, and I will restore it to you.”	3 Look! 4 And they said, You haven’t defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither have you taken anything of any man’s hand.

4 καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς Σαμουὴλ οὐκ ἠδίκησας ἡμᾶς καὶ οὐ κατεδυνάστευσας καὶ οὐκ ἔθλασας ἡμᾶς καὶ οὐκ εἴληφας ἐκ χειρὸς οὐδενὸς οὐδέν.	4 καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς Σαμουήλ· οὐκ ἠδίκησας ἡμᾶς καὶ οὐ κατεδυνάστευσας ἡμᾶς καὶ οὐκ ἔθλασας ἡμᾶς καὶ οὐκ εἴληφας ἐκ χειρὸς οὐδενὸς οὐδέν.

6 And Samuel said to the people, It is Yahweh that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.

7 Now therefore stand still, that I may reason with you before Yahweh of all the righteous acts of Yahweh, which he did to you and to your fathers.

7 καὶ νῦν κατάστητε, καὶ δικάσω ὑμᾶς ἐνώπιον κυρίου, καὶ ἀπαγγελῶ ὑμῖν τὴν πᾶσαν δικαιοσύνην κυρίου ἃ ἐποίησεν ἐν ὑμῖν καὶ ἐν τοῖς πατράσιν ὑμῶν·	7 καὶ νῦν κατάστητε, καὶ δικάσω ὑμᾶς ἐνώπιον Κυρίου καὶ ἀπαγγελῶ ὑμῖν τὴν πᾶσαν δικαιοσύνην Κυρίου, ἃ ἐποίησεν ἐν ὑμῖν καὶ ἐν τοῖς πατράσιν ὑμῶν·

8 When Jacōb came into Egypt, and your fathers cried to Yahweh, then Yahweh sent Moses and Aaron, which brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them dwell in this place.

9 And when they forgot Yahweh their God, he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the army of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fought against them.

10 And they cried to Yahweh, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Yahweh, and have served Baals and Ashtaroth; but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve you.

11 And Yahweh sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side, and you dwelled safe.

11 καὶ ἀπέστειλεν κύριος τὸν Ἱεροβάαλ καὶ τὸν Βαρὰκ καὶ τὸν Ἰεφθάε καὶ τὸν Σαμουὴλ καὶ ἐξείλατο ὑμᾶς ἐκ χειρὸς ἐχθρῶν ὑμῶν τῶν κυκλόθεν, καὶ κατῳκεῖτε πεποιθότες.	11 καὶ ἀπέστειλε Κύριος τὸν Ἱεροβάαλ καὶ τὸν Βαρὰκ καὶ τὸν Ἰεφθάε καὶ τὸν Σαμουὴλ καὶ ἐξείλατο ἡμᾶς ἐκ χειρὸς ἐχθρῶν ἡμῶν τῶν κυκλόθεν, καὶ κατῳκεῖτε πεποιθότες.

12 And when you saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammōn came against you, you said to me, No; but a king shall reign over us: when Yahweh your Elohim was your king.

12 καὶ εἴδετε ὅτι Ναὰς βασιλεὺς υἱῶν Ἀμμὼν ἦλθεν ἐφ’ ὑμᾶς, καὶ εἴπατε οὐχί, ἀλλ’ ἢ ὅτι βασιλεὺς βασιλεύσει ἐφ’ ἡμῶν· καὶ κύριος ὁ θεὸς ἡμῶν βασιλεὺς ἡμῶν.	12 καὶ ἴδετε ὅτι Νάας βασιλεὺς υἱῶν Ἀμμὼν ἦλθεν ἐφ’ ὑμᾶς, καὶ εἴπατε· οὐχί, ἀλλ’ ἢ ὅτι βασιλεὺς βασιλεύσει ἐφ’ ἡμῶν· καὶ Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν βασιλεὺς ἡμῶν.

13 Now therefore behold the king whom you have chosen, and whom you have desired! and, behold, Yahweh has set a king over you.

14 If you will fear Yahweh, and serve him, and obey his voice, and not rebel against the command of Yahweh, then shall both you and also the king that reigns over you continue following Yahweh your Elohim.

14 ἐὰν φοβηθῆτε τὸν κύριον καὶ δουλεύσητε αὐτῷ καὶ ἀκούσητε τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ μὴ ἐρίσητε τῷ στόματι κυρίου καὶ ἦτε καὶ ὑμεῖς καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς ὁ βασιλεύων ἐφ’ ὑμῶν ὀπίσω κυρίου πορευόμενοι·	14 ἐὰν φοβηθῆτε τὸν Κύριον καὶ δουλεύσητε αὐτῷ καὶ ἀκούσητε τῆς φωνῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ μὴ ἐρίσητε τῷ στόματι Κυρίου καὶ ἦτε καὶ ὑμεῖς καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς ὁ βασιλεύων ἐφ’ ὑμῶν ὀπίσω Κυρίου πορευόμενοι·

15 But if you won’t obey the voice of Yahweh, but rebel against the command of Yahweh, then shall the hand of Yahweh be against you, as it was against your fathers.

17 Is it not wheat harvest today? I will call to Yahweh, and he shall send thunder and rain; that you may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which you have done in the sight of Yahweh, in asking you a king.

17 οὐχὶ θερισμὸς πυρῶν σήμερον; ἐπικαλέσομαι κύριον, καὶ δώσει φωνὰς καὶ ὑετόν, καὶ γνῶτε καὶ ἴδετε ὅτι ἡ κακία ὑμῶν μεγάλη, ἣν ἐποιήσατε ἐνώπιον κυρίου αἰτήσαντες ἑαυτοῖς βασιλέα.	17 οὐχὶ θερισμὸς πυρῶν σήμερον; ἐπικαλέσομαι Κύριον, καὶ δώσει φωνὰς καὶ ὑετόν, καὶ γνῶτε καὶ ἴδετε ὅτι ἡ κακία ὑμῶν μεγάλη, ἣν ἐποιήσατε ἐνώπιον Κυρίου, αἰτήσαντες ἑαυτοῖς βασιλέα.

18 So Samuel called to Yahweh; and Yahweh sent thunder and rain that day; and all the people greatly feared Yahweh and Samuel.

18 καὶ ἐπεκαλέσατο Σαμουὴλ τὸν κύριον, καὶ ἔδωκεν κύριος φωνὰς καὶ ὑετὸν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ· καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς τὸν κύριον σφόδρα καὶ τὸν Σαμουήλ.	18 καὶ ἐπεκαλέσατο Σαμουὴλ τὸν Κύριον, καὶ ἔδωκε Κύριος φωνὰς καὶ ὑετὸν ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ· καὶ ἐφοβήθησαν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς τὸν Κύριον σφόδρα καὶ τὸν Σαμουήλ.

19 And all the people said to Samuel, Pray for your servants to Yahweh your Elohim, that we die not; for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask us a king.

19 καὶ εἶπαν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς πρὸς Σαμουὴλ πρόσευξαι ὑπὲρ τῶν δούλων σου πρὸς κύριον θεόν σου, καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνωμεν, ὅτι προστεθείκαμεν πρὸς πάσας τὰς ἁμαρτίας ἡμῶν κακίαν αἰτήσαντες ἑαυτοῖς βασιλέα.	19 καὶ εἶπαν πᾶς ὁ λαὸς πρὸς Σαμουήλ· πρόσευξαι ὑπὲρ τῶν δούλων σου πρὸς Κύριον Θεόν σου, καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνωμεν, ὅτι προστεθείκαμεν πρὸς πάσας τὰς ἁμαρτίας ἡμῶν κακίαν αἰτήσαντες ἑαυτοῖς βασιλέα.

20 And Samuel said to the people, Fear not: you have done all this wickedness: yet turn not aside from following Yahweh, but serve Yahweh with all your heart;

22 For Yahweh won’t forsake his people for his great name’s sake: because it has pleased Yahweh to make you his people.

23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against Yahweh in ceasing to pray for you; but I will teach you the good and the right way.
