Hezekiah Healed
1 In those days was Hezekiah sick to death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, Thus says Yahweh, Set your house in order; for you shall die, and not live.
1
Now it happened at that time that Ezekias became sick to death.
And the prophet Ēsaias son of Amōs came to him and said to him, “This is what the Lord says. Make arrangements concerning your house, for you shall die; you shall not live.” |
1
Now it happened at that time that Ezekias became sick to death.
And the prophet Hēsaias son of Amōs came to him and said to him, “This is what the Lord says. Make arrangements concerning your house, for you shall die; you shall not live.” |
2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to Yahweh,
2 Then Ezekias turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord. | 2 Then Ezekias turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord. |
3 And said, Remember now, Oh Yahweh, I beseech you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done what is good in your sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

“Remember, Oh Lord, how I have walked before you with truth, with a true heart, and have done the things that are pleasing before you.”
And Ezekias wept with a great weeping. |

And Ezekias wept with a great weeping. |
4 Then came the word of Yahweh to Isaiah, saying,
4 Then the word of the Lord came to Ēsaias, saying. | 4 Then the word of the Lord came to Hēsaias, saying. |
5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus says Yahweh, the God of David your father, I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears: behold, I will add to your days fifteen years.

I am adding fifteen years to your time. | 5 “Go, and say to Ezekias, I have heard the voice of your prayer and have seen your tears. Look! I am adding fifteen years to your time. |
6 And I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city.

7 And this shall be a sign to you from Yahweh, that Yahweh will do this thing that he has spoken;

Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward.
So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.

The shadow of the steps on which the sun has gone down–the ten steps of the house of your father–I will turn back the sun those ten steps.”
So the sun went up the ten steps on which the shadow had gone down. |

9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness.
9 Prayer of King Ezekias of Judea, when he had become sick and had recovered from his sickness. | 9 Prayer of King Ezekias of Judea, when he had become sick and had recovered from his sickness. |
10 I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years.
10 I said at the height of my days, in the gates of Hades, I shall leave behind my remaining years. | 10 I said at the height of my days, in the gates of Hades, I shall leave behind my remaining years. |
11
I said, I shall not see Yahweh, even Yahweh, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
11 I said, No longer shall I see the salvation of God on the land; no longer shall I see a man | 11 I said, No longer shall I see the salvation of God living on the land; no longer shall I see the salvation of Israēl on the land; no longer shall I see a man |
12 My age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night will you make an end of me.
12

from my relatives.
I have left behind the rest of my life; it has gone out and departed from me like the one who has camped a tent takes it down; my spirit in me became like the web of a weaver who approaches to cut it off. In that day, I was given over |
12
I parted from my relatives.
I have left behind the rest of my life; it has gone out and departed from me like the one who has camped a tent takes it down; my spirit in me became like the web of a weaver who approaches to cut it off. |
13 I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night will you make an end of me.
13 as to a lion until morning; thus he broke my bones, for I was given over from day to night. | 13 In that day I was given over as to a lion until morning; thus he broke my bones, for I was given over from day to night. |
14 Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: my eyes fail with looking upward: Oh Yahweh, I am oppressed; undertake for me.
14 So I will cry out like a swallow; so I will moan like a dove. For my eyes have failed from looking to the height of the sky, toward the Lord, who rescued me | 14 So I will cry out like a swallow; so I will moan like a dove. For my eyes have failed from looking to the height of the sky, toward the Lord, who rescued me |
15 What shall I say? He has both spoken to me, and himself has done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.
15 And to remove the pain of my soul. | 15 And to remove the pain of my soul. |
16 Oh Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit; so will you recover me, and make me to live.
16 Oh Lord, it was told to you concerning it, and you awakened my breath, and after I was comforted, I came to life. | 16 Oh Lord, it was told to you concerning it, and you awakened my breath, and after I was comforted, I came to life. |
17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness; but you have in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption; for you have cast all my sins behind your back.
17 For you chose my soul in order that it may not be destroyed, and you flung all my sins behind me. | 17 For you chose my soul in order that it may not be destroyed, and you flung all my sins behind. |
18 For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot celebrate you: they who go down into the pit cannot hope for your truth.
18 For those who are in Hades won’t praise you, nor will the dead bless you, nor will those who are in Hades hope for your mercy. | 18 For those who are in Hades won’t praise you, nor will the dead bless you, nor will those who are in Hades hope for your mercy. |
19 The living, the living, he shall praise you, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known your truth.

19
The living will praise you, as I also do for from today I will produce children who will declare your righteousness, |
19
The living will praise you, as I also do for from today I will produce children who will declare your righteousness, |
20 Yahweh was ready to save me; therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of Yahweh.
20 Oh Lord of my salvation. And I won’t cease praising you with a psaltery all the days of my life, before the house of God. | 20 Oh Lord of my salvation. And I won’t cease praising you with a psaltery all the days of my life, before the house of God. |
21 For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaster on the boil, and he shall recover.
21 And Hēsaias said to Ezekias, “Take a cake of figs, and mash it, and apply it as plaster, and you will be well.” | 21 And Ēsaias said to Ezekias, “Take a cake of figs, and mash it, and apply it as plaster, and you will be well.” |
22 Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of Yahweh?
22 And Ezekias said, “This is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord God.” | 22 And Ezekias said, “This is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord God.” |
