Isaiah

1 In those days was Hezekiah sick to death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, Thus says Yahweh, Set your house in order; for you shall die, and not live.

1 ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ ἐμαλακίσθη Ἐζεκίας ἕως θανάτου· καὶ ἦλθεν πρὸς αὐτὸν Ἠσαίας υἱὸς Ἀμὼς ὁ προφήτης καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν τάδε λέγει κύριος τάξαι περὶ τοῦ οἴκου σου, ἀποθνῄσκεις γὰρ σὺ καὶ οὐ ζήσῃ.	1 Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ ἐμαλακίσθη Ἐζεκίας ἕως θανάτου· καὶ ἦλθε πρὸς αὐτὸν Ἡσαΐας υἱὸς Ἀμὼς ὁ προφήτης καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτόν· τάδε λέγει Κύριος· τάξαι περὶ τοῦ οἴκου σου, ἀποθνήσκεις γὰρ σὺ καὶ οὐ ζήσῃ.

2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to Yahweh,

3 And said, Remember now, Oh Yahweh, I beseech you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done what is good in your sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

3 λέγων μνήσθητι, κύριε, ὡς ἐπορεύθην ἐνώπιόν σου μετὰ ἀληθείας ἐν καρδίᾳ ἀληθινῇ καὶ τὰ ἀρεστὰ ἐνώπιόν σου ἐποίησα· καὶ ἔκλαυσεν Ἐζεκίας κλαυθμῷ μεγάλῳ.	3 λέγων· μνήσθητι, Κύριε, ὡς ἐπορεύθην ἐνώπιόν σου μετὰ ἀληθείας, ἐν καρδίᾳ ἀληθινῇ, καὶ τὰ ἀρεστά ἐνώπιόν σου ἐποίησα· καὶ ἔκλαυσεν Ἐζεκίας κλαυθμῷ μεγάλῳ.

4 Then came the word of Yahweh to Isaiah, saying,

5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus says Yahweh, the God of David your father, I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears: behold, I will add to your days fifteen years.

5 πορεύθητι καὶ εἰπὸν Ἐζεκίᾳ τάδε λέγει κύριος ὁ θεὸς Δαυὶδ τοῦ πατρός σου ἤκουσα τῆς φωνῆς τῆς προσευχῆς σου καὶ εἶδον τὰ δάκρυά σου· ἰδοὺ προστίθημι πρὸς τὸν χρόνον σου ἔτη δέκα πέντε·	5 πορεύθητι καὶ εἰπὸν Ἐζεκίᾳ· τάδε λέγει Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς Δαυὶδ τοῦ πατρός σου· ἤκουσα τῆς προσευχῆς σου καὶ εἶδον τὰ δάκρυά σου. ἰδοὺ προστίθημι πρὸς τὸν χρόνον σου δεκαπέντε ἔτη·
5 “Go, and say to Ezekias, This is what the Lord, the God of your ancestor David, says. I have heard the voice of your prayer and have seen your tears. Look! 6 And I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city.

6 καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς βασιλέως Ἀσσυρίων σώσω σὲ καὶ ὑπὲρ τῆς πόλεως ταύτης ὑπερασπιῶ.	6 καὶ ἐκ χειρὸς βασιλέως Ἀσσυρίων ῥύσομαί σε καὶ τὴν πόλιν ταύτην καὶ ὑπερασπιῶ ὑπὲρ τῆς πόλεως ταύτης.

7 And this shall be a sign to you from Yahweh, that Yahweh will do this thing that he has spoken;

8 Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward.
So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.

8 τὴν σκιὰν τῶν ἀναβαθμῶν, οὓς κατέβη ὁ ἥλιος, τοὺς δέκα ἀναβαθμοὺς τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ πατρός σου, ἀποστρέψω τὸν ἥλιον τοὺς δέκα ἀναβαθμούς. καὶ ἀνέβη ὁ ἥλιος τοὺς δέκα ἀναβαθμούς, οὓς κατέβη ἡ σκιά.	8 ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ στρέψω τὴν σκιὰν τῶν ἀναβαθμῶν, οὓς κατέβη ὁ ἥλιος, τοὺς δέκα ἀναβαθμοὺς τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ πατρός σου, ἀποστρέψω τὸν ἥλιον τοὺς δέκα ἀναβαθμούς. καὶ ἀνέβη ὁ ἥλιος τοὺς δέκα ἀναβαθμούς, οὓς κατέβη ἡ σκιά.

9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness.

10 I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years.

11 I said, I shall not see Yahweh, even Yahweh, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

12 My age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night will you make an end of me.

12 ἐκ τῆς συγγενείας μου. κατέλιπον τὸ λοιπὸν τῆς ζωῆς μου· ἐξῆλθεν καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ ὥσπερ ὁ καταλύων σκηνὴν πήξας, τὸ πνεῦμά μου παρ’ ἐμοὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἱστὸς ἐρίθου ἐγγιζούσης ἐκτεμεῖν. ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ παρεδόθην	12 ἐξέλιπον ἐκ τῆς συγγενείας μου, κατέλιπον τὸ ἐπίλοιπον τῆς ζωῆς μου, ἐξῆλθε καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ ὥσπερ ὁ καταλύων σκηνὴν πήξας, τὸ πνεῦμά μου παρ’ ἐμοὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἱστὸς ἐρίθου ἐγγιζούσης ἐκτεμεῖν.
12 from my relatives. I have left behind the rest of my life; it has gone out and departed from me like the one who has camped a tent takes it down; my spirit in me became like the web of a weaver who approaches to cut it off. 13 I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night will you make an end of me.

14 Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: my eyes fail with looking upward: Oh Yahweh, I am oppressed; undertake for me.

14 ὡς χελιδών, οὕτως φωνήσω, καὶ ὡς περιστερά, οὕτως μελετήσω· ἐξέλιπον γάρ μου οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ τοῦ βλέπειν εἰς τὸ ὕψος τοῦ οὐρανοῦ πρὸς τὸν κύριον, ὃς ἐξείλατό με	14 ὡς χελιδών, οὕτω φωνήσω, καὶ ὡς περιστερά, οὕτω μελετήσω· ἐξέλιπον γάρ μου οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ τοῦ βλέπειν εἰς τὸ ὕψος τοῦ οὐρανοῦ πρὸς τὸν Κύριον, ὃς ἐξείλατό με
14 So I will cry out like a swallow; so I will moan like a dove. 15 What shall I say? He has both spoken to me, and himself has done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

16 Oh Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit; so will you recover me, and make me to live.

17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness; but you have in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption; for you have cast all my sins behind your back.

18 For the grave cannot praise you, death cannot celebrate you: they who go down into the pit cannot hope for your truth.

19 The living, the living, he shall praise you, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known your truth.

20 Yahweh was ready to save me; therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of Yahweh.

21 For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaster on the boil, and he shall recover.

21 καὶ εἶπεν Ἠσαίας πρὸς Ἐζεκίαν λαβὲ παλάθην ἐκ σύκων καὶ τρῖψον καὶ κατάπλασαι, καὶ ὑγιὴς ἔσῃ.	21 Καὶ εἶπε Ἡσαΐας πρὸς Ἐζεκίαν· λάβε παλάθην ἐκ σύκων καὶ τρῖψον καὶ κατάπλασαι, καὶ ὑγιὴς ἔσῃ.

22 Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of Yahweh?

22 καὶ εἶπεν Ἐζεκίας τοῦτο τὸ σημεῖον, ὅτι ἀναβήσομαι εἰς τὸν οἶκον κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ.	22 καὶ εἶπε Ἐζεκίας· τοῦτο τὸ σημεῖον ὅτι ἀναβήσομαι εἰς τὸν οἶκον τοῦ Θεοῦ.
