Isaiah

1 And it happened, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he tore his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Yahweh.

2 And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with sackcloth, to Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

3 καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ τάδε λέγει Ἐζεκίας ἡμέρα θλίψεως καὶ ὀνειδισμοῦ καὶ ἐλεγμοῦ καὶ ὀργῆς ἡ σήμερον ἡμέρα, ὅτι ἥκει ἡ ὠδὶν τῇ τικτούσῃ, ἰσχὺν δὲ οὐκ ἔχει τοῦ τεκεῖν.	3 καὶ εἶπαν αὐτῷ· τάδε λέγει Ἐζεκίας· ἡμέρα θλίψεως καὶ ὀνειδισμοῦ καὶ ἐλεγμοῦ καὶ ὀργῆς ἡ σήμερον ἡμέρα, ὅτι ἥκει ἡ ὠδὶν τῇ τικτούσῃ, ἰσχὺν δὲ οὐκ ἔχει τοῦ τεκεῖν.

4 It may be Yahweh your Elohim will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which Yahweh your Elohim has heard; therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.

5 So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

6 And Isaiah said to them, Thus you shall say to your master, Thus says Yahweh, Don’t be afraid of the words that you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

6 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς Ἠσαίας οὕτως ἐρεῖτε πρὸς τὸν κύριον ὑμῶν τάδε λέγει κύριος μὴ φοβηθῇς ἀπὸ τῶν λόγων, ὧν ἤκουσας, οὓς ὠνείδισάν με οἱ πρέσβεις βασιλέως Ἀσσυρίων·	6 καὶ εἶπε αὐτοῖς Ἡσαΐας· οὕτως ἐρεῖτε πρὸς τὸν κύριον ὑμῶν· τάδε λέγει Κύριος· μὴ φοβηθῇς ἀπὸ τῶν λόγων, ὧν ἤκουσας, οὓς ὠνείδισάν με οἱ πρέσβεις βασιλέως Ἀσσυρίων.
6 and Ēsaias said to them, “Thus you will say to your lord, ‛This is what the Lord says. 7 Behold, I will send a blast on him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.

7 ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐμβαλῶ εἰς αὐτὸν πνεῦμα, καὶ ἀκούσας ἀγγελίαν ἀποστραφήσεται εἰς τὴν χώραν αὐτοῦ καὶ πεσεῖται μαχαίρᾳ ἐν τῇ γῇ αὐτοῦ.	7 ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐμβάλλω εἰς αὐτὸν πνεῦμα, καὶ ἀκούσας ἀγγελίαν ἀποστραφήσεται εἰς τὴν χώραν αὐτοῦ καὶ πεσεῖται μαχαίρᾳ ἐν τῇ γῇ αὐτοῦ.

8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah; for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.

9 And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with you. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

10 Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Don’t let your God, in whom you trust, deceive you, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

10 “Thus you shall speak to King Ezekias of Judea. 11 Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and you shall be delivered?

12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them who my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Telassar?

12 μὴ ἐρρύσαντο αὐτοὺς οἱ θεοὶ τῶν ἐθνῶν, οὓς οἱ πατέρες μου ἀπώλεσαν, τήν τε Γωζὰν καὶ Χαρρὰν καὶ Ῥαφές, αἵ εἰσιν ἐν χώρᾳ Θεμάδ;	12 μὴ ἐρρύσαντο αὐτοὺς οἱ θεοὶ τῶν ἐθνῶν, οὓς ἀπώλεσαν οἱ πατέρες μου, τήν τε Γωζᾶν καὶ Χαρὰν καὶ Ῥαφές, αἵ εἰσιν ἐν χώρᾳ Θεεμάθ;

14 And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of Yahweh, and spread it before Yahweh.

15 And Hezekiah prayed to Yahweh, saying,

16 Oh Yahweh of armies, God of Israēl, that dwells between the cherubs, you are the God, even you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: you have made heaven and earth.

16 κύριε σαβαὼθ ὁ θεὸς Ἰσραὴλ ὁ καθήμενος ἐπὶ τῶν Χερουβίν, σὺ θεὸς μόνος εἶ πάσης βασιλείας τῆς οἰκουμένης, σὺ ἐποίησας τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν.	16 Κύριε σαβαὼθ ὁ Θεὸς Ἰσραὴλ ὁ καθήμενος ἐπὶ τῶν Χερουβίμ, σὺ Θεὸς μόνος εἶ πάσης βασιλείας τῆς οἰκουμένης, σὺ ἐποίησας τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν.

17 Incline your ear, Oh Yahweh, and hear; open your eyes, Oh Yahweh, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which has sent to reproach the living God.

17 εἰσάκουσον, κύριε, εἴσβλεψον, κύριε, καὶ ἰδὲ τοὺς λόγους, οὓς ἀπέστειλεν Σενναχηρὶμ ὀνειδίζειν θεὸν ζῶντα.	17 κλῖνον, Κύριε, τὸ οὖς σου, εἰσάκουσον, Κύριε, ἄνοιξον, Κύριε, τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς σου, εἴσβλεψον, Κύριε, καὶ ἰδὲ τοὺς λόγους Σενναχηρείμ, οὓς ἀπέστειλεν ὀνειδίζειν Θεὸν ζῶντα.

18 Of a truth, Yahweh, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,

19 And have cast their gods into the fire; for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them.

20 Now therefore, Oh Yahweh our Elohim, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you are Yahweh, even you only.

21 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, Thus says Yahweh Elohim of Israēl, Whereas you have prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria.

21 Then Ēsaias son of Amōs was sent to Ezekias and said to him. “This is what the Lord says, the God of Israēl. 22 This is the word which Yahweh has spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of Zion, has despised you, and laughed you to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem has shaken her head at you.

22 This is the word that God has spoken concerning him. 23 Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? And against whom have you exalted your voice, and lifted up your eyes on high? Even against the Holy One of Israēl.

23 τίνα ὠνείδισας καὶ παρώξυνας; ἢ πρὸς τίνα ὕψωσας τὴν φωνήν σου; καὶ οὐκ ἦρας εἰς ὕψος τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς σου εἰς τὸν ἅγιον τοῦ Ἰσραήλ.	23 τίνα ὠνείδισας καὶ παρώξυνας; ἢ πρὸς τίνα ὕψωσας τὴν φωνήν σου; καὶ οὐκ ᾖρας εἰς ὕψος τοὺς ὀφθαλμούς σου πρὸς τὸν ἅγιον τοῦ Ἰσραήλ;

24 By your servants have you reproached the Lord, and have said, By the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars of it, and the choice fir trees of it; and I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel.

24 ὅτι δι’ ἀγγέλων ὠνείδισας κύριον· σὺ γὰρ εἶπας τῷ πλήθει τῶν ἁρμάτων ἐγὼ ἀνέβην εἰς ὕψος ὀρέων καὶ εἰς τὰ ἔσχατα τοῦ Λιβάνου καὶ ἔκοψα τὸ ὕψος τῆς κέδρου αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸ κάλλος τῆς κυπαρίσσου καὶ εἰσῆλθον εἰς ὕψος μέρους τοῦ δρυμοῦ	24 ὅτι δι’ ἀγγέλων ὠνείδισας Κύριον· σὺ γὰρ εἶπας· τῷ πλήθει τῶν ἁρμάτων ἐγὼ ἀνέβην εἰς ὕψος ὀρέων καὶ εἰς τὰ ἔσχατα τοῦ Λιβάνου καὶ ἔκοψα τὸ ὕψος τῆς κέδρου αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸ κάλλος τῆς κυπαρίσσου καὶ εἰσῆλθον εἰς ὕψος μέρος τοὺς δρυμοῦ

25 I have dug, and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of the besieged places.
