Cheer for Prostrate Zion

1 Awake, awake; put on your strength, Oh Zion; put on your beautiful garments, Oh Jerusalem, the holy city; for henceforth there shall no more come into you the uncircumcised and the unclean.

1 Awake, awake, Oh Siōn!
Put on your strength, Oh Siōn, and put on your glory, Oh Jerousalēm, the holy city; the uncircumcised and unclean shall no longer continue to pass through you.
1 Awake, awake, Oh Siōn!
Put on your strength, Oh Siōn, and put on your glory, Oh Jerousalēm, the holy city; the uncircumcised and unclean shall no longer continue to pass through you.

2 Shake yourself from the dust; arise, and sit down, Oh Jerusalem: loose yourself from the bands of your neck, Oh captive daughter of Zion.

2 Shake off the dust, and rise up; sit down, Oh Jerousalēm; take off the chain from your neck, Oh captive daughter Siōn! 2 Shake off the dust, and rise up; sit down, Oh Jerousalēm; take off the chain from your neck, Oh captive daughter Siōn!

3 For thus says Yahweh, You have sold yourselves for nothing; and you shall be redeemed without money.

3 Because this is what the Lord says: You were sold for nothing, and you shall not be redeemed with money. 3 Because this is what the Lord says: You were sold for nothing, and you shall not be redeemed with money.

4 For thus says Adonai Yahweh, My people went down aforetime into Egypt to stay there; and the Assyrian oppressed them without cause.

4 Thus says the Lord: Formerly, my people went down into Aigypt to dwell there, and they were led by force to the Assyrians. 4 Thus says the Lord: Formerly, my people went down into Aigypt to dwell there, and they were led by force to the Assyrians.

5 Now therefore, what have I here, says Yahweh, that my people is taken away for nothing? They who rule over them make them to howl, says Yahweh; and my name continually every day is blasphemed.

5 καὶ νῦν τί ὧδέ ἐστε;
5 καὶ νῦν τί ἐστε ὧδε;
5 And now, why are you here?
This is what the Lord says, Because my people were taken for nothing, you wonder and howl.
This is what the Lord says, Because of you, my name is continually blasphemed in the nations.
5 And now, why are you here?
This is what the Lord says, Because my people were taken for nothing, you wonder and howl.
This is what the Lord says, Because of you, my name is continually blasphemed in the nations.

6 Therefore my people shall know my name; therefore they shall know in that day that I am he who speaks; behold, it is I.

6 Therefore my people shall know my name in that day, because I myself am the one who speaks: I am here, 6 Therefore my people shall know my name in that day, because I myself am the one who speaks: I am here,

7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good tidings, that imagines peace; that brings good tidings of good, that imagines salvation; that says to Zion, Your God reigns!

7 like an hour on the mountains, like the feet of one bringing glad tidings of a report of peace, like one bringing glad tidings of good things, because I will make your salvation heard, saying to Siōn, “Your God shall reign,” 7 like an hour on the mountains, like the feet of one bringing glad tidings of a report of peace, like one bringing glad tidings of good things, because I will make your salvation heard, saying to Siōn, “Your God shall reign,”

8 Your watchmen shall lift up the voice; with the voice together shall they sing; for they shall see eye to eye, when Yahweh shall bring again Zion.

8 because the voice of those who guard over you was lifted up, and with their voice they shall rejoice together, because eyes shall look at eyes when the Lord will have mercy on Siōn. 8 because the voice of those who guard over you was lifted up, and with their voice they shall rejoice together, because eyes shall look at eyes when the Lord will have mercy on Siōn.

9 Break forth into joy, sing together, you waste places of Jerusalem; for Yahweh has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem.

9 Let the deserted places of Jerousalēm break forth together in joy, because the Lord has had mercy on her and has delivered Jerousalēm. 9 Let the deserted places of Jerousalēm break forth together in joy, because the Lord has had mercy on her and has delivered Jerousalēm.

10 Yahweh has made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

10 And the Lord shall reveal his holy arm before all the nations, and all the ends of the land shall see the salvation that comes from God. 10 And the Lord shall reveal his holy arm before all the nations, and all the ends of the land shall see the salvation that comes from our God.

11 Depart you, depart you, go you out from there, touch no unclean thing; go you out of the midst of her; be clean, that bear the vessels of Yahweh.

11 Depart, depart, go out of there, and don’t touch an unclean thing; go out of the midst of it; be separated, you who carry the items of the Lord, 11 Depart, depart, go out of there, and don’t touch an unclean thing; go out of the midst of it; be separated, you who carry the items of the Lord,

12 For you shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight; for Yahweh will go before you; and Elohim of Israēl will be your rear guard.

12 because you shall not go out with confusion, nor you shall go in flight, for the Lord will go before you, and the Lord God of Israēl is the one who gathers you together. 12 because you shall not go out with confusion, nor you shall go in flight, for the Lord will go before you, and the Lord God of Israēl is the one who gathers you together.

The Exalted Servant

13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.

13 Look! My servant shall understand, and he shall be exalted and glorified exceedingly. 13 Look! My servant shall understand, and he shall be exalted and glorified exceedingly.

14 As many were astonished at you; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men.

14 Just as many shall be amazed at you–so shall your appearance be in contempt from men, and your glory from the men, 14 Just as many shall be amazed at you–so shall your appearance be in contempt from men, and your glory from the men,

15 So he shall sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him; for what had not been told them shall they see; and what they had not heard shall they consider.

15 so shall many nations be astonished at him, and kings shall shut their mouth, because those who were not informed about him shall see and those who didn’t hear shall understand. 15 so shall many nations be astonished at him, and kings shall shut their mouth, because those who were not informed about him shall see and those who didn’t hear shall understand.
