By David, a Psalm sung by the sons of Jonadab, and the first that were taken captive. By David, a Psalm sung by the sons of Jonadab, and the first that were taken captive.

1 In you, Oh Yahweh, do I put my trust; let me never be put to confusion.

1 Oh Lord, I have hoped in you; let me never be put to shame. 1 Oh Lord, I have hoped in you; let me never be put to shame.

2 Deliver me in your righteousness, and cause me to escape; incline your ear to me, and save me.

2 In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline your ear to me, and save me. 2 In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline your ear to me, and save me.

3 Be my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort; you have given commandment to save me; for you are my rock and my fortress.

3 Be to me a protecting God, and a strong hold to save me; for you are my fortress and my refuge. 3 Be to me a protecting God, and a strong hold to save me; for you are my fortress and my refuge.

4 Deliver me, Oh my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.

4 Deliver me, Oh my God, from the hand of the sinner, from the hand of the transgressor and unjust man. 4 Deliver me, Oh my God, from the hand of the sinner, from the hand of the transgressor and unjust man.

5 For you are my hope, Oh Adonai Yahweh; you are my trust from my youth.

5 For you are my support, Oh Lord; Oh Lord, you are my hope from my youth. 5 For you are my support, Oh Lord; Oh Lord, you are my hope from my youth.

6 By you have I been held up from the womb; you are he who took me out of my mother’s bowels; my praise shall be continually of you.

6 On you have I been stayed from the womb; from the belly of my mother you are my protector; of you is my praise continually. 6 On you have I been stayed from the womb; from the belly of my mother you are my protector; of you is my praise continually.

7 I am as a wonder to many; but you are my strong refuge.

7 I am become as it were a wonder to many; but you are my strong helper. 7 I am become as it were a wonder to many; but you are my strong helper.

8 Let my mouth be filled with your praise and with your honour all the day.

8 Let my mouth be filled with praise, that I may hymn your glory, and your majesty all the day. 8 Let my mouth be filled with praise, that I may hymn your glory, and your majesty all the day.

9 Don’t cast me off in the time of old age; don’t forsake me when my strength fails.

9 Don’t cast me off at the time of old age; don’t forsake me when my strength fails. 9 Don’t cast me off at the time of old age; don’t forsake me when my strength fails.

10 For my enemies speak against me; and they who lay wait for my soul take counsel together,

10 For my enemies have spoken against me; and they who lay wait for my soul have taken counsel together, 10 For my enemies have spoken against me; and they who lay wait for my soul have taken counsel together,

11 Saying, God has forsaken him; persecute and take him; for there is none to deliver him.

11 saying, God has forsaken him; persecute you and take him; for there is none to deliver him. 11 saying, God has forsaken him; persecute you and take him; for there is none to deliver him.

12 Oh God, don’t be far from me; Oh my God, make haste for my help.

12 Oh God, don’t go far from me, Oh my God, draw near to my help. 12 Oh God, don’t go far from me, Oh my God, draw near to my help.

13 Let them be confounded and consumed who are adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonour who seek my hurt.

13 Let those who plot against my soul be ashamed and utterly fail; let those who seek my hurt be clothed with shame and dishonour. 13 Let those who plot against my soul be ashamed and utterly fail; let those who seek my hurt be clothed with shame and dishonour.

14 But I will hope continually, and will yet praise you more and more.

14 But I will hope continually, and will praise you more and more. 14 But I will hope continually, and will praise you more and more.

15 My mouth shall show forth your righteousness and your salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers of it.

15 My mouth shall declare your righteousness openly, and your salvation all the day; for I am not acquainted with the affairs of men. 15 My mouth shall declare your righteousness openly, and your salvation all the day; for I am not acquainted with the affairs of men.

16 I will go in the strength of Adonai Yahweh; I will make mention of your righteousness, even of yours only.

16 I will go on in the might of the Lord; Oh Lord, I will make mention of your righteousness only. 16 I will go on in the might of the Lord; Oh Lord, I will make mention of your righteousness only.

17 Oh God, you have taught me from my youth; and hereto have I declared your wondrous works.

17 Oh God, you have taught me from my youth, and until now will I declare your wonders; 17 Oh God, you have taught me from my youth, and until now will I declare your wonders;

18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, Oh God, don’t forsake me; until I have shown your strength to this generation, and your power to everyone who is to come.

18 even until I am old and advanced in years. Oh God, don’t forsake me; until I shall have declared your arm to all the generation that is to come; 18 even until I am old and advanced in years. Oh God, don’t forsake me; until I shall have declared your arm to all the generation that is to come;

19 Your righteousness also, Oh God, is very high, who have done great things; Oh God, who is like to you!

Θεός, ἕως ὑψίστων ἐποίησας μεγαλεῖα· Θεός, τίς ὅμοιός σοι;
19 even your power and your righteousness, Oh God, up to the highest heavens, even the mighty works which you have done; Oh God, who is like to you? 19 even your power and your righteousness, Oh God, up to the highest heavens, even the mighty works which you have done; Oh God, who is like to you?

20 You, who have shown me great and sore troubles, shall quicken me again, and shall bring me up again from the depths of the earth.

20 What afflictions many and sore have you shown me! yet you turned and quickened me, and brought me again from the depths of the earth. 20 What afflictions many and sore have you shown me! yet you turned and quickened me, and brought me again from the depths of the earth.

21 You shall increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.

21 You multiplied your righteousness, and turned and comfort me, and brought me again out of the depths of the earth. 21 You multiplied your righteousness, and turned and comfort me, and brought me again out of the depths of the earth.

22 I will also praise you with the psaltery, even your truth, Oh my God; to you will I sing with the harp, Oh you Holy One of Israēl.

22 I will also therefore give thanks to you, Oh God, because of your truth, on an instrument of psalm singing; I will sing psalms to you on the harp, Oh Holy One of Israēl. 22 I will also therefore give thanks to you, Oh God, because of your truth, on an instrument of psalm singing; I will sing psalms to you on the harp, Oh Holy One of Israēl.

23 My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing to you; and my soul, which you have redeemed.

23 My lips shall rejoice when I sing to you; and my soul, which you have redeemed. 23 My lips shall rejoice when I sing to you; and my soul, which you have redeemed.

24 My tongue also shall talk of your righteousness all the day long; for they are confounded, for they are brought to shame, who seek my hurt.

24 Moreover also my tongue shall dwell all the day on your righteousness; when they shall be ashamed and confounded who seek my hurt. 24 Moreover also my tongue shall dwell all the day on your righteousness; when they shall be ashamed and confounded who seek my hurt.
