| By David, a Psalm sung by the sons of Jonadab, and the first that were taken captive. | By David, a Psalm sung by the sons of Jonadab, and the first that were taken captive. |
1 In you, Oh Yahweh, do I put my trust; let me never be put to confusion.
| 1 Oh Lord, I have hoped in you; let me never be put to shame. | 1 Oh Lord, I have hoped in you; let me never be put to shame. |
2 Deliver me in your righteousness, and cause me to escape; incline your ear to me, and save me.
| 2 In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline your ear to me, and save me. | 2 In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline your ear to me, and save me. |
3 Be my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort; you have given commandment to save me; for you are my rock and my fortress.
| 3 Be to me a protecting God, and a strong hold to save me; for you are my fortress and my refuge. | 3 Be to me a protecting God, and a strong hold to save me; for you are my fortress and my refuge. |
4 Deliver me, Oh my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
| 4 Deliver me, Oh my God, from the hand of the sinner, from the hand of the transgressor and unjust man. | 4 Deliver me, Oh my God, from the hand of the sinner, from the hand of the transgressor and unjust man. |
5 For you are my hope, Oh Adonai Yahweh; you are my trust from my youth.
| 5 For you are my support, Oh Lord; Oh Lord, you are my hope from my youth. | 5 For you are my support, Oh Lord; Oh Lord, you are my hope from my youth. |
6 By you have I been held up from the womb; you are he who took me out of my mother’s bowels; my praise shall be continually of you.
| 6 On you have I been stayed from the womb; from the belly of my mother you are my protector; of you is my praise continually. | 6 On you have I been stayed from the womb; from the belly of my mother you are my protector; of you is my praise continually. |
7 I am as a wonder to many; but you are my strong refuge.
| 7 I am become as it were a wonder to many; but you are my strong helper. | 7 I am become as it were a wonder to many; but you are my strong helper. |
8 Let my mouth be filled with your praise and with your honour all the day.
| 8 Let my mouth be filled with praise, that I may hymn your glory, and your majesty all the day. | 8 Let my mouth be filled with praise, that I may hymn your glory, and your majesty all the day. |
9 Don’t cast me off in the time of old age; don’t forsake me when my strength fails.
| 9 Don’t cast me off at the time of old age; don’t forsake me when my strength fails. | 9 Don’t cast me off at the time of old age; don’t forsake me when my strength fails. |
10 For my enemies speak against me; and they who lay wait for my soul take counsel together,
| 10 For my enemies have spoken against me; and they who lay wait for my soul have taken counsel together, | 10 For my enemies have spoken against me; and they who lay wait for my soul have taken counsel together, |
11 Saying, God has forsaken him; persecute and take him; for there is none to deliver him.
| 11 saying, God has forsaken him; persecute you and take him; for there is none to deliver him. | 11 saying, God has forsaken him; persecute you and take him; for there is none to deliver him. |
12 Oh God, don’t be far from me; Oh my God, make haste for my help.
| 12 Oh God, don’t go far from me, Oh my God, draw near to my help. | 12 Oh God, don’t go far from me, Oh my God, draw near to my help. |
13 Let them be confounded and consumed who are adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonour who seek my hurt.
| 13 Let those who plot against my soul be ashamed and utterly fail; let those who seek my hurt be clothed with shame and dishonour. | 13 Let those who plot against my soul be ashamed and utterly fail; let those who seek my hurt be clothed with shame and dishonour. |
14 But I will hope continually, and will yet praise you more and more.
| 14 But I will hope continually, and will praise you more and more. | 14 But I will hope continually, and will praise you more and more. |
15 My mouth shall show forth your righteousness and your salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers of it.
| 15 My mouth shall declare your righteousness openly, and your salvation all the day; for I am not acquainted with the affairs of men. | 15 My mouth shall declare your righteousness openly, and your salvation all the day; for I am not acquainted with the affairs of men. |
16 I will go in the strength of Adonai Yahweh; I will make mention of your righteousness, even of yours only.
| 16 I will go on in the might of the Lord; Oh Lord, I will make mention of your righteousness only. | 16 I will go on in the might of the Lord; Oh Lord, I will make mention of your righteousness only. |
17 Oh God, you have taught me from my youth; and hereto have I declared your wondrous works.
| 17 Oh God, you have taught me from my youth, and until now will I declare your wonders; | 17 Oh God, you have taught me from my youth, and until now will I declare your wonders; |
18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, Oh God, don’t forsake me; until I have shown your strength to this generation, and your power to everyone who is to come.
| 18 even until I am old and advanced in years. Oh God, don’t forsake me; until I shall have declared your arm to all the generation that is to come; | 18 even until I am old and advanced in years. Oh God, don’t forsake me; until I shall have declared your arm to all the generation that is to come; |
19 Your righteousness also, Oh God, is very high, who have done great things; Oh God, who is like to you!
| 19 even your power and your righteousness, Oh God, up to the highest heavens, even the mighty works which you have done; Oh God, who is like to you? | 19 even your power and your righteousness, Oh God, up to the highest heavens, even the mighty works which you have done; Oh God, who is like to you? |
20 You, who have shown me great and sore troubles, shall quicken me again, and shall bring me up again from the depths of the earth.
| 20 What afflictions many and sore have you shown me! yet you turned and quickened me, and brought me again from the depths of the earth. | 20 What afflictions many and sore have you shown me! yet you turned and quickened me, and brought me again from the depths of the earth. |
21 You shall increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.
| 21 You multiplied your righteousness, and turned and comfort me, and brought me again out of the depths of the earth. | 21 You multiplied your righteousness, and turned and comfort me, and brought me again out of the depths of the earth. |
22 I will also praise you with the psaltery, even your truth, Oh my God; to you will I sing with the harp, Oh you Holy One of Israēl.
| 22 I will also therefore give thanks to you, Oh God, because of your truth, on an instrument of psalm singing; I will sing psalms to you on the harp, Oh Holy One of Israēl. | 22 I will also therefore give thanks to you, Oh God, because of your truth, on an instrument of psalm singing; I will sing psalms to you on the harp, Oh Holy One of Israēl. |
23 My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing to you; and my soul, which you have redeemed.
| 23 My lips shall rejoice when I sing to you; and my soul, which you have redeemed. | 23 My lips shall rejoice when I sing to you; and my soul, which you have redeemed. |
24 My tongue also shall talk of your righteousness all the day long; for they are confounded, for they are brought to shame, who seek my hurt.
| 24 Moreover also my tongue shall dwell all the day on your righteousness; when they shall be ashamed and confounded who seek my hurt. | 24 Moreover also my tongue shall dwell all the day on your righteousness; when they shall be ashamed and confounded who seek my hurt. |
