David becomes king over Israēl

1 Then all Israēl gathered themselves to David to Hebron, saying, Behold, we are your bone and your flesh.

וַיִּקָּבְצוּ כָל ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל אֶל ־ דָּוִיד חֶבְרֹונָה לֵאמֹר הִנֵּה עַצְמְךָ וּבְשָׂרְךָ אֲנָחְנוּ׃

1 καὶ ἦλθεν πᾶς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Δαυὶδ ἐν Χεβρὼν λέγοντες
Ἰδοὺ ὀστᾶ σου καὶ σάρκες σου ἡμεῖς·

2 καὶ ἐχθὲς καὶ τρίτην ὄντος Σαοὺλ βασιλέως σὺ ἦσθα ὁ ἐξάγων καὶ εἰσάγων τὸν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ εἶπεν κύριος ὁ θεός σου σοί
σὺ ποιμανεῖς τὸν λαόν μου τὸν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ σὺ ἔσῃ εἰς ἡγούμενον ἐπὶ Ἰσραήλ.

David conquers Jerusalem

4 And David and all Israēl went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.

4 καὶ ἐπορεύθη ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ ἄνδρες Ἰσραὴλ εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ (αὕτη Ἰεβούς), καὶ ἐκεῖ οἱ Ἰεβουσαῖοι οἱ κατοικοῦντες τὴν γῆν. 4 Καὶ ἐπορεύθης ὁ βασιλεὺς καὶ ἄνδρες αὐτοῦ εἰς Ἱερουσαλὴμ (αὕτη Ἰεβούς), καὶ ἐκεῖ οἱ Ἰεβουσαῖοι οἱ κατοικοῦντες τὴν γῆν εἶπον τῷ Δαυίδ·

5 εἶπαν δὲ οἱ κατοικοῦντες Ἰεβοὺς τῷ Δαυὶδ
Οὐκ εἰσελεύσῃ ὧδε.
καὶ προκατελάβετο τὴν περιοχὴν Σιὼν (αὕτη ἡ πόλις Δαυίδ). 		5 οὐκ εἰσελεύσῃ ὧδε.

6 And David said, Whoever smites the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.

6 καὶ εἶπεν Δαυὶδ
Πᾶς τύπτων Ἰεβουσαῖον ἐν πρώτοις καὶ ἔσται εἰς ἄρχοντα καὶ εἰς στρατηγόν·
καὶ ἀνέβη ἐπ’ αὐτὴν ἐν πρώτοις Ἰωὰβ υἱὸς Σαρουία καὶ ἐγένετο εἰς ἄρχοντα. 		6 καὶ εἶπε Δαυίδ·

David’s mighty men

10 These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israēl, to make him king, according to the word of Yahweh concerning Israēl.

10 καὶ οὗτοι οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν δυνατῶν, οἳ ἦσαν τῷ Δαυίδ, οἱ κατισχύοντες μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτοῦ μετὰ παντὸς Ἰσραὴλ τοῦ βασιλεῦσαι αὐτὸν κατὰ τὸν λόγον κυρίου ἐπὶ Ἰσραήλ· 10 Καὶ οὗτοι οἱ ἄρχοντες τῶν δυνατῶν, οἳ ἦσαν τῷ Δαυίδ, οἱ κατισχύοντες μετ’ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτοῦ μετὰ παντὸς Ἰσραὴλ τοῦ βασιλεῦσαι αὐτὸν κατὰ τὸν λόγον Κυρίου ἐπὶ Ἰσραήλ·

11 καὶ οὗτος ὁ ἀριθμὸς τῶν δυνατῶν τοῦ Δαυίδ· Ἰεσεβαὰλ υἱὸς Ἀχαμάνι πρῶτος τῶν τριάκοντα, οὗτος ἐσπάσατο τὴν ῥομφαίαν αὐτοῦ ἅπαξ ἐπὶ τριακοσίους τραυματίας ἐν καιρῷ ἑνί. 11 καὶ οὗτος ὁ ἀριθμὸς τῶν δυνατῶν τοῦ Δαυίδ· Ἰεσεβάαλ υἱὸς Ἀχαμανὶ πρῶτος τῶν τριάκοντα· οὗτος ἐσπάσατο τὴν ῥομφαίαν αὐτοῦ ἅπαξ ἐπὶ τριακοσίους τραυματίας ἐν καιρῷ ἑνί.

הוּא ־ הָיָה עִם ־ דָּוִיד בַּפַּס דַּמִּים וְהַפְּלִשְׁתִּים נֶאֱסְפוּ ־ שָׁם לַמִּלְחָמָה וַתְּהִי חֶלְקַת הַשָּׂדֶה מְלֵאָה שְׂעֹורִים וְהָעָם נָסוּ מִפְּנֵי פְלִשְׁתִּים׃

13 οὗτος ἦν μετὰ Δαυὶδ ἐν Φασοδομίν, καὶ οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι συνήχθησαν ἐκεῖ εἰς πόλεμον, καὶ ἦν μερὶς τοῦ ἀγροῦ πλήρης κριθῶν, καὶ ὁ λαὸς ἔφυγεν ἀπὸ προσώπου ἀλλοφύλων· 13 οὗτος ἦν μετὰ Δαυὶδ ἐν Φασοδομίν, καὶ οἱ ἀλλόφυλοι συνήχθησαν ἐκεῖ εἰς πόλεμον, καὶ ἦν μερὶς τοῦ ἀγροῦ πλήρης κριθῶν, καὶ ὁ λαὸς ἔφυγεν ἀπὸ προσώπου ἀλλοφύλων·

וַיִּתְיַצְּבוּ בְתֹוךְ ־ הַחֶלְקָה וַיַּצִּילוּהָ וַיַּכּוּ אֶת ־ פְּלִשְׁתִּים וַיֹּושַׁע יְהוָה תְּשׁוּעָה גְדֹולָה׃

וַיֵּרְדוּ שְׁלֹושָׁה מִן ־ הַשְּׁלֹושִׁים רֹאשׁ עַל ־ הַצֻּר אֶל ־ דָּוִיד אֶל ־ מְעָרַת עֲדֻלָּם וּמַחֲנֵה פְלִשְׁתִּים חֹנָה בְּעֵמֶק רְפָאִים׃

15 καὶ κατέβησαν τρεῖς ἐκ τῶν τριάκοντα ἀρχόντων εἰς τὴν πέτραν πρὸς Δαυὶδ εἰς τὸ σπήλαιον Ὀδολλάμ, καὶ παρεμβολὴ τῶν ἀλλοφύλων παρεμβεβλήκει ἐν τῇ κοιλάδι τῶν γιγάντων· 15 καὶ κατέβησαν τρεῖς ἐκ τῶν τριάκοντα ἀρχόντων εἰς τὴν πέτραν πρὸς Δαυὶδ εἰς τὸ σπήλαιον Ὀδολλάμ, καὶ παρεμβολὴ τῶν ἀλλοφύλων ἐν τῇ κοιλάδι τῶν γιγάντων.

17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!

17 καὶ ἐπεθύμησεν Δαυὶδ καὶ εἶπεν
Τίς ποτιεῖ με ὕδωρ ἐκ τοῦ λάκκου Βαιθλεὲμ τοῦ ἐν τῇ πύλῃ;

18 And the three broke through the army of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David; but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to Yahweh,

וַיִּבְקְעוּ הַשְּׁלֹשָׁה בְּמַחֲנֵה פְלִשְׁתִּים וַיִּשְׁאֲבוּ ־ מַיִם מִבֹּור בֵּית ־ לֶחֶם אֲשֶׁר בַּשַּׁעַר וַיִּשְׂאוּ וַיָּבִאוּ אֶל ־ דָּוִיד וְלֹא ־ אָבָה דָוִיד לִשְׁתֹּותָם וַיְנַסֵּךְ אֹתָם לַיהוָה׃

18 καὶ διέρρηξαν οἱ τρεῖς τὴν παρεμβολὴν τῶν ἀλλοφύλων καὶ ὑδρεύσαντο ὕδωρ ἐκ τοῦ λάκκου τοῦ ἐν Βαιθλεέμ, ὃς ἦν ἐν τῇ πύλῃ, καὶ ἔλαβον καὶ ἦλθον πρὸς Δαυίδ, καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησεν Δαυὶδ τοῦ πιεῖν αὐτὸ καὶ ἔσπεισεν αὐτὸ τῷ κυρίῳ 18 καὶ διέρρηξαν οἱ τρεῖς τὴν παρεμβολὴν τῶν ἀλλοφύλων καὶ ὑδρεύσαντο ὕδωρ ἐκ τοῦ λάκκου τοῦ ἐν Βηθλεέμ, ὃς ἦν ἐν τῇ πύλῃ, καὶ ἔλαβον καὶ ἦλθον πρὸς Δαυίδ, καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησε Δαυὶδ τοῦ πιεῖν αὐτὸ καὶ ἔσπεισεν αὐτὸ τῷ Κυρίῳ καὶ εἶπε·

19 And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? For with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.
