II Samuel

1 And it came to be, when the king sat in his house, and Yahweh had given him rest all around from all his enemies;

1 καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐκάθισεν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ καὶ κύριος κατεκληρονόμησεν αὐτὸν κύκλῳ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτοῦ τῶν κύκλῳ,	1 Καὶ ἐγένετο ὅτε ἐκάθισεν ὁ βασιλεὺς ἐν τῷ οἴκῳ αὐτοῦ, καὶ Κύριος κατεκληρονόμησεν αὐτὸν κύκλῳ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν αὐτοῦ τῶν κύκλῳ,

2 That the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells within curtains.”

2 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς Νάθαν τὸν προφήτην ἰδοὺ δὴ ἐγὼ κατοικῶ ἐν οἴκῳ κεδρίνῳ, καὶ ἡ κιβωτὸς τοῦ θεοῦ κάθηται ἐν μέσῳ τῆς σκηνῆς.	2 καὶ εἶπε ὁ βασιλεὺς πρὸς Νάθαν τὸν προφήτην· ἰδοὺ δὴ ἐγὼ κατοικῶ ἐν οἴκῳ κεδρίνῳ, καὶ ἡ κιβωτὸς τοῦ Θεοῦ κάθηται ἐν μέσῳ τῆς σκηνῆς.

3 And Nathan said to the king, “Go, do all that is in your heart; for Yahweh is with you.”

3 καὶ εἶπεν Νάθαν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα πάντα, ὅσα ἄν ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου, βάδιζε καὶ ποίει, ὅτι κύριος μετὰ σοῦ.	3 καὶ εἶπε Νάθαν πρὸς τὸν βασιλέα· πάντας, ὅσα ἄν ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου, βάδιζε καὶ ποίει, ὅτι Κύριος μετὰ σοῦ.

4 And it came to be that night, that the word of Yahweh came to Nathan, saying,

5 “Go and tell my servant David, ‘Thus says Yahweh, you shall build me a house for me to dwell in?

5 πορεύου καὶ εἰπὸν πρὸς τὸν δοῦλόν μου Δαυὶδ τάδε λέγει κύριος οὐ σὺ οἰκοδομήσεις μοι οἶκον τοῦ κατοικῆσαί με·	5 πορεύου, καὶ εἰπὸν πρὸς τὸν δοῦλόν μου Δαυίδ· τάδε λέγει Κύριος· οὐ σὺ οἰκοδομήσεις μοι οἶκον τοῦ κατοικῆσαί με·

6 Whereas I haven’t dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the sons of Israēl out of Egypt, even to this day, but have walked in a tent and in a tent.

7 In all the places in which I have walked with all the sons of Israēl did I speak a word with any of the tribes of Israēl, whom I commanded to feed my people Israēl, saying, “Why don’t you build me a house of cedar?”’

7 ἐν πᾶσιν, οἷς διῆλθον ἐν παντὶ Ἰσραήλ, εἰ λαλῶν ἐλάλησα πρὸς μίαν φυλὴν τοῦ Ἰσραήλ, ᾧ ἐνετειλάμην ποιμαίνειν τὸν λαόν μου Ἰσραήλ, λέγων τί ὅτι οὐκ ᾠκοδομήκατέ μοι οἶκον κέδρινον;	7 ἐν πᾶσιν, οἷς διῆλθον ἐν παντὶ Ἰσραήλ, εἰ λαλῶν ἐλάλησα πρὸς μίαν φυλὴν τοῦ Ἰσραήλ, ᾧ ἐνετειλάμην ποιμαίνειν τὸν λαόν μου Ἰσραὴλ λέγων· ἱνατί οὐκ ᾠκοδομήκατέ μοι οἶκον κέδρινον;

8 Now therefore thus you shall say to my servant David, ‘Thus says Yahweh of armies, “I took you from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israēl.

9 And I was with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies out of your sight, and have made you a great name, like to the name of the great men who are in the earth.

9 καὶ ἤμην μετὰ σοῦ ἐν πᾶσιν, οἷς ἐπορεύου, καὶ ἐξωλέθρευσα πάντας τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ἀπὸ προσώπου σου καὶ ἐποίησά σὲ ὀνομαστὸν κατὰ τὸ ὄνομα τῶν μεγάλων τῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.	9 καὶ ἤμην μετὰ σοῦ ἐν πᾶσιν, οἷς ἐπορεύου, καὶ ἐξωλόθρευσα πάντας τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ἀπὸ προσώπου σου καὶ ἐποίησά σε ὀνομαστὸν κατὰ τὸ ὄνομα τῶν μεγάλων τῶν ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.

10 Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israēl, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,

10 καὶ θήσομαι τόπον τῷ λαῷ μου τῷ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ καταφυτεύσω αὐτόν, καὶ κατασκηνώσει καθ’ ἑαυτὸν καὶ οὐ μεριμνήσει οὐκέτι, καὶ οὐ προσθήσει υἱὸς ἀδικίας τοῦ ταπεινῶσαι αὐτὸν καθὼς ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς	10 καὶ θήσομαι τόπον τῷ λαῷ μου τῷ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ καταφυτεύσω αὐτόν, καὶ κατασκηνώσει καθ’ ἑαυτὸν καὶ οὐ μεριμνήσει οὐκέτι, καὶ οὐ προσθήσει υἱὸς ἀδικίας τοῦ ταπεινῶσαι αὐτὸν καθὼς ἀπ’ ἀρχῆς,

11 And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israēl, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also Yahweh tells you that he will make you a house.

11 ἀπὸ τῶν ἡμερῶν, ὧν ἔταξα κριτὰς ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν μου Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀναπαύσω σὲ ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν σου, καὶ ἀπαγγελεῖ σοί κύριος ὅτι οἶκον οἰκοδομήσεις αὐτῷ.	11 ἀπὸ τῶν ἡμερῶν, ὧν ἔταξα κριτὰς ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν μου Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀναπαύσω σε ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν ἐχθρῶν σου, καὶ ἀπαγγελεῖ σοι Κύριος ὅτι οἶκον οἰκοδομήσεις αὐτῷ.

12 And when your days be fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who shall proceed out of your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.

12 καὶ ἔσται ἐὰν πληρωθῶσιν αἱ ἡμέραι σου καὶ κοιμηθήσῃ μετὰ τῶν πατέρων σου, καὶ ἀναστήσω τὸ σπέρμα σου μετὰ σέ, ὃς ἔσται ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας σου, καὶ ἑτοιμάσω τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτοῦ·	12 καὶ ἔσται ἐὰν πληρωθῶσιν αἱ ἡμέραι σου καὶ κοιμηθήσῃ μετὰ τῶν πατέρων σου, καὶ ἀναστήσω τὸ σπέρμα σου μετὰ σέ, ὃς ἔσται ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας σου, καὶ ἑτοιμάσω τὴν βασιλείαν αὐτοῦ·

13 He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.

14 I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men.

14 ἐγὼ ἔσομαι αὐτῷ εἰς πατέρα, καὶ αὐτὸς ἔσται μοι εἰς υἱόν· καὶ ἐὰν ἔλθῃ ἡ ἀδικία αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐλέγξω αὐτὸν ἐν ῥάβδῳ ἀνδρῶν καὶ ἐν ἁφαῖς υἱῶν ἀνθρώπων·	14 ἐγὼ ἔσομαι αὐτῷ εἰς πατέρα, καὶ αὐτὸς ἔσται μοι εἰς υἱόν· καὶ ἐὰν ἔλθῃ ἡ ἀδικία αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐλέγξω αὐτὸν ἐν ῥάβδῳ ἀνδρῶν καὶ ἐν ἁφαῖς υἱῶν ἀνθρώπων·
14 I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me, and when his injustice comes, then I will convict him with a rod of men and with attacks of sons of men,	14 I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me, and when his injustice comes, then I will convict him with a rod of men and with attacks of sons of men,

15 But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you.

16 καὶ πιστωθήσεται ὁ οἶκος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ ἕως αἰῶνος ἐνώπιον ἐμοῦ, καὶ ὁ θρόνος αὐτοῦ ἔσται ἀνωρθωμένος εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.	16 καὶ πιστωθήσεται ὁ οἶκος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἡ βασιλεία αὐτοῦ ἕως αἰῶνος ἐνώπιόν μου. καὶ ὁ θρόνος αὐτοῦ ἔσται ἀνωρθωμένος εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα.

17 According to all these words, and according to all this vision, thus did Nathan speak to David.

18 Then king David went in, and sat before Yahweh, and he said, “Who am I, Oh Adonai Yahweh? And what is my house, that you have brought me here?

18 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Δαυὶδ καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐνώπιον κυρίου καὶ εἶπεν τίς εἰμι ἐγώ, κύριέ μου κύριε, καὶ τίς ὁ οἶκός μου, ὅτι ἠγάπηκάς με ἕως τούτων;	18 καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Δαυὶδ καὶ ἐκάθισεν ἐνώπιον Κυρίου καὶ εἶπε· τίς εἰμι ἐγώ, Κύριέ μου Κύριε, καὶ τίς ὁ οἶκός μου, ὅτι ἠγάπησάς με ἕως τούτων;

19 And this was yet a small thing in your sight, Oh Adonai Yahweh; but you have spoken also of your servant’s house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, Oh Adonai Yahweh?

19 καὶ κατεσμικρύνθη μικρὸν ἐνώπιόν σου, κύριέ μου κύριε, καὶ ἐλάλησας ὑπὲρ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ δούλου σου εἰς μακράν· οὗτος δὲ ὁ νόμος τοῦ ἀνθρώπου, κύριέ μου κύριε.	19 καὶ κατεσμικρύνθη μικρὸν ἐνώπιόν σου, Κύριέ μου Κύριε. καὶ ἐλάλησας ὑπὲρ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ δούλου σου εἰς μακράν· οὗτος δὲ ὁ νόμος τοῦ ἀνθρώπου, Κύριέ μου Κύριε.

20 And what can David say more to you? For you, Adonai Yahweh, know your servant.

21 For your word’s sake, and according to your own heart, have you done all these great things, to make your servant know them.

21 διὰ τὸν λόγον σου πεποίηκας καὶ κατὰ τὴν καρδίαν σου ἐποίησας πᾶσαν τὴν μεγαλωσύνην ταύτην γνωρίσαι τῷ δούλῳ σου	21 διὰ τὸν λόγον σου πεποίηκας, καὶ κατὰ τὴν καρδίαν σου ἐποίησας πᾶσαν τὴν μεγαλωσύνην ταύτην γνωρίσαι τῷ δούλῳ σου

22 Therefore you are great, Oh Yahweh Elohim; for there is none like you, neither is there any God beside you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

22 ἕνεκεν τοῦ μεγαλῦναί σε, κύριέ μου κύριε, ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ὡς σὺ καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν θεὸς πλὴν σοῦ ἐν πᾶσιν, οἷς ἠκούσαμεν ἐν τοῖς ὠσὶν ἡμῶν.	22 ἕνεκεν τοῦ μεγαλῦναί σε, Κύριέ μου Κύριε, ὅτι οὐκ ἐστιν ὡς σὺ καὶ οὐκ ἔστι Θεὸς πλὴν σοῦ ἐν πᾶσιν, οἷς ἠκούσαμεν ἐν τοῖς ὠσὶν ἡμῶν.

23 And what one nation in the earth is like your people, even like Israēl, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself, and to make him a name, and to do for you great things and terrible, for your land, before your people, which you redeemed to you from Egypt, from the nations and their gods?

23 καὶ τίς ὡς ὁ λαός σου Ἰσραὴλ ἔθνος ἄλλο ἐν τῇ γῇ; ὡς ὡδήγησεν αὐτὸν ὁ θεὸς τοῦ λυτρώσασθαι αὐτῷ λαὸν τοῦ θέσθαι σὲ ὄνομα τοῦ ποιῆσαι μεγαλωσύνην καὶ ἐπιφάνειαν τοῦ ἐκβαλεῖν σὲ ἐκ προσώπου τοῦ λαοῦ σου, οὗ ἐλυτρώσω σεαυτῷ ἐξ Αἰγύπτου, ἔθνη καὶ σκηνώματα.	23 καὶ τίς ὡς ὁ λαός σου Ἰσραὴλ ἔθνος ἄλλο ἐν τῇ γῇ; ὡς ὡδήγησεν αὐτὸν ὁ Θεὸς τοῦ λυτρώσασθαι αὐτῷ λαόν, τοῦ θέσθαι σε ὄνομα, τοῦ ποιῆσαι μεγαλωσύνην καὶ ἐπιφάνειαν, τοῦ ἐκβαλεῖν σε ἐκ προσώπου τοῦ λαοῦ σου, οὓς ἐλυτρώσω σεαυτῷ ἐξ Αἰγύπτου, ἔθνη καὶ σκηνώματα;
23 And who is like your people Israēl–another nation in the earth? How God guided them to redeem a people for him to make you a name to do greatness and manifestation that you should cast out nations and tents from before your people whom you redeemed for yourself out of Aigypt!	23 And who is like your people Israēl–another nation in the earth? 24 For you have confirmed to yourself your people Israēl to be a people to you forever; and you, Yahweh, have become their God.

24 καὶ ἡτοίμασας σεαυτῷ τὸν λαόν σου Ἰσραὴλ λαὸν ἕως αἰῶνος, καὶ σύ, κύριε, ἐγένου αὐτοῖς εἰς θεόν.	24 καὶ ἡτοίμασας σεαυτῷ τὸν λαόν σου Ἰσραὴλ εἰς λαὸν ἕως αἰῶνος, καὶ σύ, Κύριε, ἐγένου αὐτοῖς εἰς Θεόν.

25 And now, Oh Yahweh Elohim, the word that you have spoken concerning your servant, and concerning his house, establish it forever, and do as you have said.

25 καὶ νῦν, κύριέ μου κύριε τὸ ῥῆμα, ὃ ἐλάλησας περὶ τοῦ δούλου σου καὶ τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ, πίστωσον ἕως αἰῶνος, κύριε παντοκράτωρ θεὲ τοῦ Ἰσραήλ· καὶ νῦν καθὼς ἐλάλησας,	25 καὶ νῦν, Κύριέ μου Κύριε, τὸ ῥῆμα, ὃν ἐλάλησας περὶ τοῦ δούλου σου καὶ τοῦ οἴκου αὐτοῦ, πίστωσον ἕως τοῦ αἰῶνος, Κύριε παντοκράτωρ Θεὲ τοῦ Ἰσραήλ· καὶ νῦν καθὼς ἐλάλησας,
