Zechariah

1 Open your doors, Oh Lebanon, that the fire may devour your cedars.

2 Howl, fir tree; for the cedar is fallen; because the mighty are spoiled; howl, Oh you oaks of Bashan; for the forest of the vintage is come down.

3 There is a voice of the howling of the shepherds; for their glory is spoiled; a voice of the roaring of young lions; for the pride of Jordan is spoiled.

4 Thus says Yahweh my Elohim; Feed the flock of the slaughter;

6 For I will no more pity the inhabitants of the land, says Yahweh; but, lo, I will deliver the men every one into his neighbour’s hand, and into the hand of his king; and they shall smite the land, and out of their hand I will not deliver them.

6 Therefore I will no longer be sparing toward the inhabitants of the land, says the Lord; and, look! 7 And I will feed the flock of slaughter, even you, Oh poor of the flock. And I took to me two staves; the one I called Beauty, and the other I called Bands; and I fed the flock.

8 Three shepherds also I cut off in one month; and my soul refused them, and their soul also abhorred me.

8 καὶ ἐξαρῶ τοὺς τρεῖς ποιμένας ἐν μηνὶ ἑνί, καὶ βαρυνθήσεται ἡ ψυχή μου ἐπ’ αὐτούς, καὶ γὰρ αἱ ψυχαὶ αὐτῶν ἐπωρύοντο ἐπ’ ἐμέ.	8 καὶ ἐξαρῶ τοὺς τρεῖς ποιμένας ἐν μηνὶ ἑνί, καὶ βαρυνθήσεται ἡ ψυχή μου ἐπ’ αὐτούς, καὶ γὰρ αἱ ψυχαὶ αὐτῶν ἐπωρύοντο ἐπ’ ἐμέ.

9 Then said I, I will not feed you; what dies, let it die; and what is to be cut off, let it be cut off; and let the rest eat every one the flesh of another.

9 καὶ εἶπα, οὐ ποιμανῶ ὑμᾶς· τὸ ἀποθνῇσκον ἀποθνῃσκέτω, καὶ τὸ ἐκλεῖπον ἐκλειπέτω, καὶ τὰ κατάλοιπα κατεσθιέτωσαν ἕκαστος τὰς σάρκας τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ.	9 καὶ εἶπα· οὐ ποιμανῶ ὑμᾶς· τὸ ἀποθνῇσκον ἀποθνῃσκέτω, καὶ τὸ ἐκλεῖπον ἐκλιπέτω, καὶ τὰ κατάλοιπα κατεσθιέτωσαν ἕκαστος τὰς σάρκας τοῦ πλησίον αὐτοῦ.

10 And I took my staff, even Beauty, and cut it assunder, that I might break my covenant which I had made with all the people.

11 And it was broken in that day; and so the poor of the flock that waited on me knew that it was the word of Yahweh.

12 And I said to them, If you think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price 30 pieces of silver.

13 And Yahweh said to me, Cast it to the potter; a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the 30 pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of Yahweh.

13 And the Lord said to me, Put them into the smelting-furnace, and I will see if it is genuine, as I was approved for them. 14 Then I cut asunder my other staff, even Bands, that I might break the brotherhood between Judah and Israēl.

15 And Yahweh said to me, Take to you yet the instruments of a foolish shepherd.

16 For, lo, I will raise up a shepherd in the land, which shall not visit those that be cut off, neither shall seek the young one, nor heal what is broken, nor feed what stands still; but he shall eat the meat of the fat, and tear their claws in pieces.

16 διότι ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐξεγείρω ποιμένα ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν· τὸ ἐκλιμπάνον οὐ μὴ ἐπισκέψηται καὶ τὸ διεσκορπισμένον οὐ μὴ ζητήσῃ καὶ τὸ συντετριμμένον οὐ μὴ ἰάσηται καὶ τὸ ὁλόκληρον οὐ μὴ κατευθύνῃ καὶ τὰ κρέα τῶν ἐκλεκτῶν καταφάγεται καὶ τοὺς ἀστραγάλους αὐτῶν ἐκστρέψει.	16 διότι ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐξεγείρω ποιμένα ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν· τὸ ἐκλιμπάνον οὐ μὴ ἐπισκέψηται καὶ τὸ ἐσκορπισμένον οὐ μὴ ζητήσῃ καὶ τὸ συντετριμμένον οὐ μὴ ἰάσηται καὶ τὸ ὁλόκληρον οὐ μὴ κατευθύνῃ καὶ τὰ κρέα τῶν ἐκλεκτῶν καταφάγεται καὶ τοὺς ἀστραγάλους αὐτῶν ἐκστρέψει.
16 For, look! I am raising up a shepherd on the land; he won’t be concerned about what is abandoned, and he won’t seek what is scattered, and he shall not heal what is bruised, and he won’t guide what is whole; but he shall devour the flesh of the choice ones, and shall dislocate their neck-vertebra.	16 For, look! 17 Woe to the idol shepherd that leaves the flock! the sword shall be on his arm, and on his right eye; his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened.

17 Ὦ οἱ ποιμαίνοντες τὰ μάταια καὶ οἱ καταλελοιπότες τὰ πρόβατα· μάχαιρα ἐπὶ τοὺς βραχίονας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν ὀφθαλμὸν τὸν δεξιὸν αὐτοῦ· ὁ βραχίων αὐτοῦ ξηραινόμενος ξηρανθήσεται, καὶ ὁ ὀφθαλμὸς ὁ δεξιὸς αὐτοῦ ἐκτυφλούμενος ἐκτυφλωθήσεται.	17 ὦ οἱ ποιμαίνοντες τὰ μάταια καὶ οἱ καταλελοιπότες τὰ πρόβατα· μάχαιρα ἐπὶ τοὺς βραχίονας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τὸν ὀφθαλμὸν τὸν δεξιὸν αὐτοῦ· ὁ βραχίων αὐτοῦ ξηραινόμενος ξηρανθήσεται, καὶ ὁ ὀφθαλμὸς ὁ δεξιὸς αὐτοῦ ἐκτυφλούμενος ἐκτυφλωθήσεται.
