For the end, a Psalm ascribed to David, apprehension. For the end, a Psalm ascribed to David, apprehension.

1 In you, Oh Yahweh, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in your righteousness.

1 Oh Lord, I have hoped in you; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in your righteousness and rescue me. 1 Oh Lord, I have hoped in you; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in your righteousness and rescue me.

2 Bow down your ear to me; deliver me speedily; be my strong rock, for a house of defence to save me.

2 Incline your ear to me; hurry to deliver me. Become to me a God for protection and for a house of refuge, to save me, 2 Incline your ear to me; hurry to deliver me. Become to me a God for protection and for a house of refuge, to save me,

3 For you are my rock and my fortress; therefore for your name’s sake lead me, and guide me.

3 Because you are my strength and my refuge; and for your name’s sake, you will guide me and provide for me. 3 Because you are my strength and my refuge; and for your name’s sake, you will guide me and provide for me.

4 Pull me out of the net that they have laid privately for me; for you are my strength.

4 you will bring me out of this snare, which they concealed for me, because you are my protector, Lord. 4 you will bring me out of this snare, which they concealed for me, because you are my protector, Lord.

5 Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, Oh Yahweh Elohim of truth.

5 Into your hands I will entrust my spirit; you redeemed me, Oh Lord, God of truth. 5 Into your hands I will entrust my spirit; you redeemed me, Oh Lord, God of truth.

6 I have hated those who regard lying vanities; but I trust in Yahweh.

6 You hated those who carefully guarded trivial things uselessly, but as for me, I had confidence in the Lord. 6 You hated those who carefully guarded trivial things uselessly, but as for me, I had confidence in the Lord.

7 I will be glad and rejoice in your mercy; for you have considered my trouble; you have known my soul in adversities;

7 I will rejoice and be glad in your mercy, because you looked on my humiliation; you saved my soul from distress 7 I will rejoice and be glad in your mercy, because you looked on my humiliation; you saved my soul from distress

8 And haven’t shut me up into the hand of the enemy; you have set my feet in a large room.

8 and you didn’t imprison me in an enemy’s hands; you set my feet in a spacious place. 8 and you didn’t imprison me in an enemy’s hands; you set my feet in a spacious place.

9 Have mercy on me, Oh Yahweh, for I am in trouble; my eye is consumed with grief, yes, my soul and my belly.

9 Have mercy on me, Oh Lord, because I am being afflicted; my eye was troubled by temper, my soul and my belly. 9 Have mercy on me, Oh Lord, because I am being afflicted; my eye was troubled by temper, my soul and my belly.

10 For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

10 Because my life became exhausted with pain and my years with groanings, my strength became weak with poverty, and my bones were unsettled. 10 Because my life became exhausted with pain and my years with groanings, my strength became weak with poverty, and my bones were unsettled.

11 I was a reproach among all my enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to my acquaintance; they who saw me outside fled from me.

11 With all my enemies I became a reproach, and to my neighbours, very much, and a fright to my acquaintances; when they saw me outside, they fled from me. 11 With all my enemies I became a reproach, and to my neighbours, very much, and a fright to my acquaintances; when they saw me outside, they fled from me.

12 I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind; I am like a broken vessel.

12 I was forgotten from the heart like a dead man; I became like a broken vessel. 12 I was forgotten from the heart like a dead man; I became like a broken vessel.

13 For I have heard the slander of many; fear was on every side; while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.

13 because I heard criticism from many dwelling as resident aliens all around; when they gathered together against me, they plotted to take my soul. 13 because I heard criticism from many living all around; when they gathered together against me, they plotted to take my soul.

14 But I trusted in you, Oh Yahweh; I said, You are my God.

14 But I had confidence in you, Oh Lord; I said,
You are my God.
14 But I had confidence in you, Oh Lord; I said,
You are my God.

15 My times are in your hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who persecute me.

15 My times are in your hands; rescue me out of the hands of my enemies and out of those who are persecuting me. 15 My times are in your hands; rescue me out of the hands of my enemies and out of those who are persecuting me.

16 Make your face to shine on your servant; save me for your mercies’ sake.

16 Display your face on your slave; save me by your mercy. 16 Display your face on your slave; save me by your mercy.

17 Let me not be ashamed, Oh Yahweh; for I have called on you; let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.

17 Oh Lord, may I not be ashamed, because I called on you; may the impious be shamed and be brought down to Hades. 17 Oh Lord, may I not be ashamed, because I called on you; may the impious be shamed and be brought down to Hades.

18 Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

18 Let the deceitful lips become speechless, which speak lawlessness against the righteous with pride and contempt. 18 Let the deceitful lips become speechless, which speak lawlessness against the righteous with pride and contempt.

19 Oh how great is your goodness, which you have laid up for those who fear you; which you have wrought for those who trust in you before the sons of men!

19 Ὡς πολὺ τὸ πλῆθος τῆς χρηστότητός σου, κύριε, ἧς ἔκρυψας τοῖς φοβουμένοις σε;
19 Oh how much is the abundance of your generosity, which you concealed for those who fear you; you accomplished it for those who have confidence in you, before the sons of men. 19 Oh how much is the abundance of your generosity, which you concealed for those who fear you; you accomplished it for those who have confidence in you, before the sons of men.

20 You shall hide them in the secret of your presence from the pride of man; you shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

20 You will hide them in a secret place of your presence from men’s disturbance; you will shelter them in a tent away from the controversy of tongues. 20 You will hide them in a secret place of your presence from men’s disturbance; you will shelter them in a tent away from the controversy of tongues.

21 Blessed be Yahweh; for he has shown me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.

21 Blessed be the Lord, because he wondrously showed his mercy in a fortified city. 21 Blessed be the Lord, because he wondrously showed his mercy in a fortified city.

22 For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before your eyes; nevertheless you heard the voice of my supplications when I cried to you.

22 But as for me, I said in my alarm,
I have been flung away from before your eyes.
Therefore you listened, Lord, to the voice of my petition, when I cried out to you.
22 But as for me, I said in my alarm,
I have been flung away from before your eyes.
Therefore you listened, Lord, to the voice of my petition, when I cried out to you.

23 Oh love Yahweh, all you his saints; for Yahweh preserves the faithful, and plentifully rewards the proud doer.

23 Love the Lord, all you his devout, because the Lord seeks out truth and repays those who act exceedingly with pride. 23 Love the Lord, all you his devout, because the Lord seeks out truth and repays those who act exceedingly with pride.

24 Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in Yahweh.

24 Take courage, and let your heart be strong, all you who are confident in the Lord. 24 Take courage, and let your heart be strong, all you who are confident in the Lord.
