Chapter 44
The disorder in Corinth
| Through our Lord Jesus Christ, our apostles also knew that there would be strife over the bishop's office. |
For this reason, therefore, after they received complete foreknowledge, they appointed the previously mentioned people and afterward they gave the offices a permanency. Thus if they die, other approved men should succeed in their ministry. |
| Therefore, these who were appointed by them, or by other reputable men with the consent of the whole church, and who have ministered to the flock of Christ blamelessly, humbly, peaceably, and unselfishly, and for a long time have had a good testimony by all, then these are considered to be unjustly removed from their ministry |
| It isn't a light sin for us if we remove those from the office of bishop who have served the gifts blamelessly and in holiness. |
Blessed are those elders who have died before, having their departure when they were fruitful and at mature age,
for they are not concerned that someone might remove them from their established place. |
| For we see that you have removed some people, their good conduct notwithstanding, from the honourable ministry they did blamelessly. |
