1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and in addition how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
1 And Achaab told Jezabel his wife all that Ēliou did, and how he killed the prophets with a sword. | 1 And Achaab told Jezabel his wife all that Ēliou did, and how he killed the prophets with a sword. |
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I don’t make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.
2 And Jezabel sent to Ēliou, and said, “If you are Ēliou and I am Jezabel, God does this to me, and adds this, that at this hour tomorrow, I put your soul as the soul of one of them.” | 2 And Jezabel sent to Ēliou, and said, “If you are Ēliou and I am Jezabel, God does this to me, and adds this, that at this hour tomorrow, I put your soul as the soul of one of them.” |
3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there.

5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said to him, Arise and eat.

Elijah at Horeb
9 And he came to that place to a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of Yahweh came to him, and he said to him, What are you doing here, Elijah?
9 And he entered there into the cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said, “What are you doing here, Ēliou?” | 9 And he entered there into the cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said, “What are you doing here, Ēliou?” |
10 And he said, I have been very jealous for Yahweh Elohim of armies. for the sons of Israēl have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
10 And Ēliou said, “I have been zealously zealous for the Lord Almighty, because the sons of Israēl have forsaken you. they have torn down your altars, and have killed your prophets with the sword; and only I am left, and they seek my soul to take it.” | 10 And Ēliou said, “I have been zealously zealous for the Lord Almighty, because the sons of Israēl have forsaken you. they have torn down your altars, and have killed your prophets with the sword; and only I am left, and they seek my soul to take it.” |
11 And he said, Go forth, and stand on the mount before Yahweh. And, behold, Yahweh passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before Yahweh; but Yahweh wasn’t in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake; but Yahweh wasn’t in the earthquake.

11 And he said, “You will go forth tomorrow, and shall stand before the Lord in the mount; behold, the Lord will pass by.” A mighty wind broke a mountain and crushed the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord wasn’t in the wind; and after the wind, an earthquake; the Lord wasn’t in the earthquake. |
12 And after the earthquake a fire; but Yahweh wasn’t in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.
12 and after the earthquake, a fire; the Lord wasn’t in the fire. And after the fire, the sound of a gentle breeze, and the Lord was there. | 12 and after the earthquake, a fire; the Lord wasn’t in the fire. And after the fire, the sound of a gentle breeze, and the Lord was there. |
13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice to him, and said, What are you doing here, Elijah?
13 And it happened as Ēliou heard, that he covered his face in his sheepskin cloak, and went out and stood by the cave: and, behold, a voice came to him and said, “Why are you here, Ēliou?” | 13 And it happened as Ēliou heard, that he covered his face in his sheepskin cloak, and went out and stood by the cave: and, behold, a voice came to him and said, “Why are you here, Ēliou?” |
14 And he said, I have been very jealous for Yahweh Elohim of armies. because the sons of Israēl have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.
14 And Ēliou said, “I have been zealously zealous for the Lord Almighty; for the sons of Israēl have forsaken your covenant, and they tore down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. And I am left alone, and they seek my soul to take it.” | 14 And Ēliou said, “I have been zealously zealous for the Lord Almighty; for the sons of Israēl have forsaken your covenant, and they tore down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. And I am left alone, and they seek my soul to take it.” |
15 And Yahweh said to him, Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus; and when you come, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria.
15 And the Lord said to him, “Go, return your way and come into the way of the wilderness of Damascus. and you will anoint Azaēl as king over Syria. | 15 And the Lord said to him, “Go, return your way and come into the way of the wilderness of Damascus. and you will go and anoint Azaēl as king over Syria. |
16 And you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi to be king over Israēl. and you shall anoint Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah to be prophet in your room.
16 And you will anoint Jou the son of Namessi as king over Israēl; and you will anoint Elisaie the son of Saphat as prophet after you. | 16 And you will anoint Jou the son of Namessi as king over Israēl; and you will anoint Helisaie the son of Saphat as prophet after you. |
17 And it will happen, that Jehu shall slay him who escapes the sword of Hazael. and Elisha shall slay him who escapes from the sword of Jehu.
17 And it will be that Jou will kill the one who escapes from the sword of Azaēl; Elisaie will kill the one who escapes the sword of Jou. | 17 And it will be that Jou will kill the one who escapes from the sword of Azaēl; Helisaie will kill the one who escapes the sword of Jou. |
18 Yet I have left me 7000 in Israēl, all the knees which haven’t bowed to Baal, and every mouth which hasn’t kissed him.
18 And you shall leave in Israēl 7000 men, all the knees which didn’t bow to Baal, and every mouth which didn’t worship him.” | 18 And you shall leave in Israēl 7000 men, all the knees which didn’t bow to Baal, and every mouth which didn’t worship him.” |
19 So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the 12th; and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle on him.
19 And he departed from there and found Elisaie the son of Saphat, and he was plowing with oxen; twelve yoke of oxen were before him, and he with the twelve, and he came on him, and threw his sheepskin cloke on him. | 19 And he departed from there and found Helisaie the son of Saphat, and he was plowing with oxen; twelve yoke of oxen were before him, and he with the twelve, and he went on him, and threw his sheepskin cloke on him. |
20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, please, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow you. And he said to him, Go back again; for what have I done to you?
20 And Elisaie left the oxen and ran after Ēliou and said, “I will kiss my father, and follow after you.” And Ēliou said, “Return, for I have done with you.” | 20 And Helisaie left the oxen and ran after Ēliou and said, “I will kiss my father, and follow after you.” And Ēliou said, “Return, for I have done with you.” |
21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and killed them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered to him.
21 And he returned from following him, and took a yoke of oxen, and sacrificed them, and boiled them with the equipments of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate; and he arose, and went after Ēliou, and ministered to him. | 21 And he returned from following him, and took a yoke of oxen, and sacrificed them, and boiled them with the equipments of the oxen, and gave to the people, and they ate; and he arose, and went after Ēliou, and ministered to him. |
