1 [LM 24:2] And it happened, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of En-gedi.

4 [LM 24:5] And the men of David said to him, Behold the day of which Yahweh said to you, Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do to him as it shall seem good to you. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul’s robe privately.

4 [LM 24:5] καὶ εἶπον οἱ ἄνδρες Δαυὶδ πρὸς αὐτόν ἰδοὺ ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη, ἣν εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς σὲ παραδοῦναι τὸν ἐχθρόν σου εἰς τὰς χεῖράς σου καὶ ποιήσεις αὐτῷ ὡς ἀγαθὸν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς σου. καὶ ἀνέστη Δαυὶδ καὶ ἀφεῖλεν τὸ πτερύγιον τῆς διπλοΐδος τῆς Σαοὺλ λαθραίως.	4 [LM 24:5] καὶ εἶπον οἱ ἄνδρες Δαυὶδ πρὸς αὐτόν· ἰδοὺ ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη, ἣν εἶπε Κύριος πρός σε παραδοῦναι τὸν ἐχθρόν σου εἰς τὰς χεῖράς σου, καὶ ποιήσεις αὐτῷ ὡς ἀγαθὸν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς σου. καὶ ἀνέστη Δαυὶδ καὶ ἀφεῖλε τὸ πτερύγιον τῆς διπλοΐδος τοῦ Σαοὺλ λαθραίως.

5 [LM 24:6] And it happened afterward, that David’s heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt.

6 [LM 24:7] And he said to his men, Yahweh forbid that I should do this thing to my master, Yahweh’s anointed, to stretch forth my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of Yahweh.

7 [LM 24:8] So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

7 [LM 24:8] And David persuaded his men with words and did not allow them to get up to put Saoul to death. 8 [LM 24:9] καὶ ἀνέστη Δαυὶδ ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ ἐκ τοῦ σπηλαίου, καὶ ἐβόησεν Δαυὶδ ὀπίσω Σαοὺλ λέγων κύριε βασιλεῦ· καὶ ἐπέβλεψεν Σαοὺλ εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔκυψεν Δαυὶδ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῷ.	8 [LM 24:9] καὶ ἀνέστη Δαυὶδ ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ ἐκ τοῦ σπηλαίου, καὶ ἐβόησε Δαυὶδ ὀπίσω Σαοὺλ λέγων· κύριε βασιλεῦ· καὶ ἐπέβλεψε Σαοὺλ εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἔκυψε Δαυὶδ ἐπὶ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ προσεκύνησεν αὐτῷ.

10 [LM 24:11] Behold, this day your eyes have seen how that Yahweh had delivered you today into my hand in the cave; and some bade me kill you; but my eye spared you; and I said, I won’t put forth my hand against my lord; for he is Yahweh’s anointed.

10 [LM 24:11] ἰδοὺ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ ἑοράκασιν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου ὡς παρέδωκέν σὲ κύριος σήμερον εἰς χεῖρά μου ἐν τῷ σπηλαίῳ, καὶ οὐκ ἠβουλήθην ἀποκτεῖναί σὲ καὶ ἐφεισάμην σου καὶ εἶπα οὐκ ἐποίσω χεῖρά μου ἐπὶ κύριόν μου, ὅτι χριστὸς κυρίου οὗτός ἐστιν.	10 [LM 24:11] ἰδοὺ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ταύτῃ ἑωράκασιν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου ὡς παρέδωκέ σε Κύριος σήμερον εἰς χεῖράς μου ἐν τῷ σπηλαίῳ, καὶ οὐκ ἠβουλήθην ἀποκτεῖναί σε καὶ ἐφεισάμην σου καὶ εἶπα· οὐκ ἐποίσω χεῖρά μου ἐπὶ κύριόν μου, ὅτι χριστὸς Κυρίου οὗτός ἔστι.

11 [LM 24:12] Moreover, my father, see, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of your robe and didn’t kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor transgression in my hand, and I haven’t sinned against you; yet you hunt my soul to take it.

11 [LM 24:12] καὶ ἰδοὺ τὸ πτερύγιον τῆς διπλοΐδος σου ἐν τῇ χειρί μου· ἐγὼ ἀφῄρηκα τὸ πτερύγιον καὶ οὐκ ἀπέκταγκά σε. καὶ γνῶθι καὶ ἰδὲ σήμερον ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν κακία ἐν τῇ χειρί μου οὐδὲ ἀσέβεια καὶ ἀθέτησις, καὶ οὐχ ἡμάρτηκα εἰς σέ· καὶ σὺ δεσμεύεις τὴν ψυχήν μου λαβεῖν αὐτήν.	11 [LM 24:12] καὶ ἰδοὺ τὸ πτερύγιον τῆς διπλοΐδος σου ἐν τῇ χειρί μου· ἐγὼ ἀφῄρηκα τὸ πτερύγιον καὶ οὐκ ἀπέκταγκά σε. καὶ γνῶθι καὶ ἰδὲ σήμερον ὅτι οὐκ ἔστι κακία ἐν τῇ χειρί μου οὐδὲ ἀσέβεια καὶ ἀθέτησις, καὶ οὐχ ἡμάρτηκα εἰς σέ· καὶ σὺ δεσμεύεις τὴν ψυχήν μου λαβεῖν αὐτήν.
11 [LM 24:12] And look! the wing of your double cloak is in my hand; I have removed the wing, and I have not killed you, and know, and see today that there is no evil in my hand, nor impiety and rebellion. 13 [LM 24:14] As says the proverb of the ancients, Wickedness proceeds from the wicked; but my hand shall not be on you.

15 [LM 24:16] Yahweh therefore be judge, and judge between me and you, and see, and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand.

16 [LM 24:17] And it happened, when David had made an end of speaking these words to Saul, that Saul said, Is this your voice, my son David? And Saul lifted up his voice, and wept.

16 [LM 24:17] καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς συνετέλεσεν Δαυὶδ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα λαλῶν πρὸς Σαούλ, καὶ εἶπεν Σαοὺλ ἦ φωνή σου αὕτη, τέκνον Δαυίδ; καὶ ἦρεν τὴν φωνὴν αὐτοῦ Σαοὺλ καὶ ἔκλαυσεν.	16 [LM 24:17] καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς συνετέλεσε Δαυὶδ τὰ ῥήματα ταῦτα λαλῶν πρὸς Σαούλ, καὶ εἶπε Σαούλ· ἡ φωνή σου αὕτη τέκνον Δαυίδ; καὶ ᾖρε Σαοὺλ τὴν φωνὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔκλαυσε.

18 [LM 24:19] And you have shown this day how that you have dealt well with me: since when Yahweh had delivered me into your hand, you killed me not.

18 [LM 24:19] καὶ σὺ ἀπήγγειλάς μοι σήμερον ἃ ἐποίησάς μοι ἀγαθά, ὡς ἀπέκλεισέν με κύριος σήμερον εἰς χεῖράς σου καὶ οὐκ ἀπέκτεινάς με·	18 [LM 24:19] καὶ σὺ ἀπήγγειλάς μοι σήμερον ἃ ἐποίησάς μοι ἀγαθά, ὡς ἀπέκλεισέ με Κύριος εἰς χεῖράς σου σήμερον καὶ οὐκ ἀπέκτεινάς με·

19 [LM 24:20] For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? therefore Yahweh reward you good for that you have done to me this day.

19 [LM 24:20] καὶ ὅτι εἰ εὕροιτό τις τὸν ἐχθρὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν θλίψει καὶ ἐκπέμψαι αὐτὸν ἐν ὁδῷ ἀγαθῇ, καὶ κύριος ἀνταποτείσει αὐτῷ ἀγαθά, καθὼς πεποίηκας σήμερον.	19 [LM 24:20] καὶ ὅτι εἰ εὕροι τις τὸν ἐχθρὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν θλίψει καὶ ἐκπέμψει αὐτὸν ἐν ὁδῷ ἀγαθῇ, καὶ Κύριος ἀποτίσει αὐτῷ ἀγαθά, καθὼς πεποίηκας σήμερον.

20 [LM 24:21] And now, behold, I know well that you shall surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israēl shall be established in your hand.

21 [LM 24:22] Swear now therefore to me by Yahweh, that you won’t cut off my seed after me, and that you won’t destroy my name out of my father’s house.
