1 And when king Arad the Canaanite, who dwelt in the south, heard that Israēl came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israēl, and took some of them prisoners.

4 And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the soul of the people was very discouraged because of the way.

5 And the people kept maligning God and against Moses, saying, “Why have you brought us out of Aigypt to kill us in the wilderness? For there is no bread or water. 6 And Yahweh sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many people of Israēl died.

7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against Yahweh, and against you; pray to Yahweh, that he may take away the serpents from us.” And Moses prayed for the people.

9 And Moses made a serpent of bronze, and put it on a pole, and it happened, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of bronze, he lived.

10 And the sons of Israēl set forward, and camped in Oboth.

12 From from there they removed, and camped in the valley of Zared.

13 καὶ ἐκεῖθεν ἀπάραντες παρενέβαλον εἰς τὸ πέραν Ἀρνὼν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τὸ ἐξέχον ἀπὸ τῶν ὁρίων τῶν Ἀμορραίων· ἔστιν γὰρ Ἀρνὼν ὅρια Μωὰβ ἀνὰ μέσον Μωὰβ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ Ἀμορραίου.	13 καὶ ἐκεῖθεν ἀπάραντες παρενέβαλον εἰς τὸ πέραν Ἀρνῶν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, τὸ ἐξέχον ἀπὸ τῶν ὁρίων τῶν Ἀμορραίων· ἔστι γὰρ Ἀρνῶν ὅρια Μωὰβ ἀνὰ μέσον Μωὰβ καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον τοῦ Ἀμορραίου.

14 Therefore it is said in the book of the wars of Yahweh, “What he did in the Red Sea, and in the brooks of Arnon,

16 And from there they went to Beer; that is the well of which Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Gather the people together, and I will give them water.”

18 The princes dug the well, the nobles of the people dug it, by the direction of the lawgiver, with their staves. And from the wilderness they went to Mattanah.

18 φρέαρ, ὤρυξαν αὐτὸ ἄρχοντες, ἐξελατόμησαν αὐτὸ βασιλεῖς ἐθνῶν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτῶν, ἐν τῷ κυριεῦσαι αὐτῶν. καὶ ἀπὸ φρέατος εἰς Μανθαναίν·	18 ὤρυξαν αὐτὸ ἄρχοντες, ἐξελατόμησαν αὐτὸ βασιλεῖς ἐθνῶν ἐν τῇ βασιλείᾳ αὐτῶν, ἐν τῷ κυριεῦσαι αὐτῶν. καὶ ἀπὸ φρέατος εἰς Μανθαναείν·

19 and from Manthanain to Naaliēl, and from Naaliēl to Bamōth,	19 and from Manthanaein to Naaliēl, and from Naaliēl to Bamoth, and from Bamōth to Janēn, which is in the plain of Mōab from the top of the hewed rock that looks down toward the wilderness.

20 And from Bamoth in the valley, that is in the country of Mōab, to the top of Pisgah, which looks toward Jeshimon.

21 And Israēl sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,

21 Καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Μωυσῆς πρέσβεις πρὸς Σηὼν βασιλέα Ἀμορραίων λόγοις εἰρηνικοῖς λέγων	21 παρελευσόμεθα διὰ τῆς γῆς σου· τῇ ὁδῷ πορευσόμεθα, οὐκ ἐκκλινοῦμεν οὔτε εἰς ἀγρὸν οὔτε εἰς ἀμπελῶνα,
21 And Moses sent ambassadors to Sēōn king of the Amorites, with peaceable words, saying,	21 We will pass through your land, we will go by the road; we won’t turn aside into the field or into the vineyard.

22 “Let me pass through your land; we won’t turn into the fields, or into the vineyards; we won’t drink of the waters of the well; but we will go along by the main road,^[1] until we are past your borders.”

22 Παρελευσόμεθα διὰ τῆς γῆς σου· τῇ ὁδῷ πορευσόμεθα, οὐκ ἐκκλινοῦμεν οὔτε εἰς ἀγρὸν οὔτε εἰς ἀμπελῶνα, οὐ πιόμεθα ὕδωρ ἐκ φρέατός σου· ὁδῷ βασιλικῇ πορευσόμεθα, ἕως παρέλθωμεν τὰ ὅριά σου.	22 οὐ πιόμεθα ὕδωρ ἐκ φρέατός σου· ὁδῷ βασιλικῇ πορευσόμεθα, ἕως παρέλθωμεν τὰ ὅριά σου.
22 “We will pass through your land, we will go by the road; we won’t turn aside into the field or into the vineyard. 23 And Sihon would not permit Israēl to pass through his border; but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israēl into the wilderness; and he came to Jahaz, and fought against Israēl.

23 καὶ οὐκ ἔδωκεν Σηὼν τῷ Ἰσραὴλ παρελθεῖν διὰ τῶν ὁρίων αὐτοῦ, καὶ συνήγαγεν Σηὼν πάντα τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξῆλθεν παρατάξασθαι τῷ Ἰσραὴλ εἰς τὴν ἔρημον καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς Ἰασσὰ καὶ παρετάξατο τῷ Ἰσραήλ.	23 καὶ οὐκ ἔδωκε Σηὼν τῷ Ἰσραὴλ παρελθεῖν διὰ τῶν ὁρίων αὐτοῦ, καὶ συνήγαγε Σηὼν πάντα τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξῆλθε παρατάξασθαι τῷ Ἰσραὴλ εἰς τὴν ἔρημον καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς Ἰασσὰ καὶ παρετάξατο τῷ Ἰσραήλ.

24 And Israēl smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from Arnon to Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.
