To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. 1 Oh Yahweh, you have searched me, and known me.

לַמְנַצֵּחַ לְדָוִד מִזְמֹור יְהוָה חֲקַרְתַּנִי וַתֵּדָע׃

1 [εἰς τὸ τέλος· ψαλμὸς τῷ Δαυίδ.] Κύριε, ἐδοκίμασάς με καὶ ἔγνως με·	1 Εἰς τὸ τέλος· ψαλμὸς τῷ Δαυΐδ. — κύριε, ἐδοκίμασάς με, καὶ ἔγνως με·

2 You know my down-sitting and my uprising, you understand my thought afar off.

אַתָּה יָדַעְתָּ שִׁבְתִּי וְקוּמִי בַּנְתָּה לְרֵעִי מֵרָחֹוק׃

2 σὺ ἔγνως τὴν καθέδραν μου καὶ τὴν ἔγερσίν μου, σὺ συνῆκας τοὺς διαλογισμούς μου ἀπὸ μακρόθεν·	2 σὺ ἔγνως τὴν καθέδραν μου καὶ τὴν ἔγερσίν μου, σὺ συνῆκας τοὺς διαλογισμούς μου ἀπὸ μακροθυμεῖ·

3 You encircle my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.

אָרְחִי וְרִבְעִי זֵרִיתָ וְכָל ־ דְּרָכַי הִסְכַּנְתָּה׃

4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, Oh Yahweh, you know it altogether.

כִּי אֵין מִלָּה בִּלְשֹׁונִי הֵן יְהוָה יָדַעְתָּ כֻלָּהּ׃

5 You have beset me behind and before, and laid your hand on me.

אָחֹור וָקֶדֶם צַרְתָּנִי וַתָּשֶׁת עָלַי כַּפֶּכָה׃

5 ἰδού, κύριε, σὺ ἔγνως πάντα, τὰ ἔσχατα καὶ τὰ ἀρχαῖα· σὺ ἔπλασάς με καὶ ἔθηκας ἐπ’ ἐμὲ τὴν χεῖρά σου.	5 ἰδού, Κύριε, σὺ ἔγνως πάντας, τὰ ἔσχατα καὶ τὰ ἀρχαῖα· σὺ ἔπλασάς με καὶ ἔθηκας ἐπ’ ἐμὲ τὴν χεῖρά σου.

6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain to it.

פִּלְאִיָּה דַעַת מִמֶּנִּי נִשְׂגְּבָה לֹא ־ אוּכַל לָהּ׃

6 Ἐθαυμαστώθη ἡ γνῶσίς σου ἐξ ἐμοῦ· ἐκραταιώθη, οὐ μὴ δύνωμαι πρὸς αὐτήν.	6 ἐθαυμαστώθη ἡ γνῶσίς σου ἐξ ἐμοῦ· ἐκραταιώθη, οὐ μὴ δύνωμαι πρὸς αὐτήν.

7 Where shall I go from your spirit? Or to which shall I flee from your presence?

אָנָה אֵלֵךְ מֵרוּחֶךָ וְאָנָה מִפָּנֶיךָ אֶבְרָח׃

7 ποῦ πορευθῶ ἀπὸ τοῦ πνεύματός σου καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ προσώπου σου ποῦ φύγω;	7 ποῦ πορευθῶ ἀπὸ τοῦ πνεύματός σου καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ προσώπου σου ποῦ φύγω;

8 If I ascend up into heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in hell, behold, you are there.

אִם ־ אֶסַּק שָׁמַיִם שָׁם אָתָּה וְאַצִּיעָה שְּׁאֹול הִנֶּךָּ׃

8 ἐὰν ἀναβῶ εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν, σὺ εἶ ἐκεῖ· ἐὰν καταβῶ εἰς τὸν ᾅδην, πάρει·	8 ἐὰν ἀναβῶ εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν, σὺ ἐκεῖ εἶ, ἐὰν καταβῶ εἰς τὸν ᾅδην, πάρει·

9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

אֶשָּׂא כַנְפֵי ־ שָׁחַר אֶשְׁכְּנָה בְּאַחֲרִית יָם׃

9 ἐὰν ἀναλάβοιμι τὰς πτέρυγάς μου κατ’ ὄρθρον καὶ κατασκηνώσω εἰς τὰ ἔσχατα τῆς θαλάσσης,	9 ἐὰν ἀναλάβοιμι τὰς πτέρυγάς μου κατ’ ὄρθρον καὶ κατασκηνώσω εἰς τὰ ἔσχατα τῆς θαλάσσης,

10 Even there shall your hand lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.

גַּם ־ שָׁם יָדְךָ תַנְחֵנִי וְתֹאחֲזֵנִי יְמִינֶךָ׃

10 καὶ γὰρ ἐκεῖ ἡ χείρ σου ὁδηγήσει με, καὶ καθέξει με ἡ δεξιά σου.	10 καὶ γὰρ ἐκεῖ ἡ χείρ σου ὁδηγήσει με, καὶ καθέξει με ἡ δεξιά σου.

11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

וָאֹמַר אַךְ ־ חֹשֶׁךְ יְשׁוּפֵנִי וְלַיְלָה אֹור בַּעֲדֵנִי׃

11 καὶ εἶπα, ἄρα σκότος καταπατήσει με, καὶ νὺξ φωτισμὸς ἐν τῇ τρυφῇ μου·	11 καὶ εἶπα· ἄρα σκότος καταπατήσει με, καὶ νὺξ φωτισμὸς ἐν τῇ τρυφῇ μου·

12 Yes, the darkness hides not from you; but the night shines as the day; the darkness and the light are both alike to you.

גַּם ־ חֹשֶׁךְ לֹא ־ יַחְשִׁיךְ מִמֶּךָ וְלַיְלָה כַּיֹּום יָאִיר כַּחֲשֵׁיכָה כָּאֹורָה׃

12 ὅτι σκότος οὐ σκοτισθήσεται ἀπὸ σοῦ, καὶ νὺξ ὡς ἡμέρα φωτισθήσεται· ὡς τὸ σκότος αὐτῆς, οὕτως καὶ τὸ φῶς αὐτῆς.	12 ὅτι σκότος οὐ σκοτισθήσεται ἀπὸ σοῦ, καὶ νὺξ ὡς ἡμέρα φωτισθήσεται· ὡς τὸ σκότος αὐτῆς, οὕτως καὶ τὸ φῶς αὐτῆς.

13 For you have possessed my reins; you have covered me in my mother’s womb.

כִּי ־ אַתָּה קָנִיתָ כִלְיֹתָי תְּסֻכֵּנִי בְּבֶטֶן אִמִּי׃

13 ὅτι σὺ ἐκτήσω τοὺς νεφρούς μου, κύριε, ἀντελάβου μου ἐκ γαστρὸς μητρός μου.	13 ὅτι σὺ ἐκτήσω τοὺς νεφρούς μου, Κύριε, ἀντελάβου μου ἐκ γαστρὸς μητρός μου.

14 I will praise you; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are your works; and that my soul knows right well.

אֹודְךָ עַל כִּי נֹורָאֹות נִפְלֵיתִי נִפְלָאִים מַעֲשֶׂיךָ וְנַפְשִׁי יֹדַעַת מְאֹד׃

14 ἐξομολογήσομαί σοι, ὅτι φοβερῶς ἐθαυμαστώθην· θαυμάσια τὰ ἔργα σου, καὶ ἡ ψυχή μου γινώσκει σφόδρα.	14 ἐξομολογήσομαί σοι, ὅτι φοβερῶς ἐθαυμαστώθης· θαυμάσια τὰ ἔργα σου, καὶ ἡ ψυχή μου γινώσκει σφόδρα.

15 My substance was not hid from you, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

לֹא ־ נִכְחַד עָצְמִי מִמֶּךָּ אֲשֶׁר ־ עֻשֵּׂיתִי בַסֵּתֶר רֻקַּמְתִּי בְּתַחְתִּיֹּות אָרֶץ׃

15 οὐκ ἐκρύβη τὸ ὀστοῦν μου ἀπὸ σοῦ, ὃ ἐποίησας ἐν κρυφῇ. καὶ ἡ ὑπόστασίς μου ἐν τοῖς κατωτάτοις τῆς γῆς·	15 οὐκ ἐκρύβη τὸ ὀστοῦν μου ἀπὸ σοῦ, ὃν ἐποίησας ἐν κρυφῇ, καὶ ἡ ὑπόστασίς μου ἐν τοῖς κατωτάτοις τῆς γῆς·

16 Your eyes saw my substance, yet being imperfect; and in your book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

גָּלְמִי רָאוּ עֵינֶיךָ וְעַל ־ סִפְרְךָ כֻּלָּם יִכָּתֵבוּ יָמִים יֻצָּרוּ וְלֹא אֶחָד בָּהֶם׃

16 τὸ ἀκατέργαστόν μου εἴδοσαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου, καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ βιβλίον σου πάντες γραφήσονται· ἡμέρας πλασθήσονται, καὶ οὐθεὶς ἐν αὐτοῖς.	16 τὸ ἀκατέργαστόν μου εἶδον οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου, καὶ ἐπὶ τὸ βιβλίον σου πάντες γραφήσονται· ἡμέρας πλασθήσονται καὶ οὐθεὶς ἐν αὐτοῖς.

17 How precious also are your thoughts to me, Oh God! how great is the sum of them!

וְלִי מַה ־ יָּקְרוּ רֵעֶיךָ אֵל מֶה עָצְמוּ רָאשֵׁיהֶם׃

18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with you.

אֶסְפְּרֵם מֵחֹול יִרְבּוּן הֱקִיצֹתִי וְעֹודִי עִמָּךְ׃

18 ἐξαριθμήσομαι αὐτούς, καὶ ὑπὲρ ἄμμον πληθυνθήσονται· ἐξηγέρθην καὶ ἔτι εἰμὶ μετὰ σοῦ.	18 ἐξαριθμήσομαι αὐτούς, καὶ ὑπὲρ ἄμμον πληθυνθήσονται· ἐξηγέρθην καὶ ἔτι εἰμὶ μετὰ σοῦ.

19 Surely you will slay the wicked, Oh God; depart from me therefore, you bloody men.

אִם ־ תִּקְטֹל אֱלֹוהַּ רָשָׁע וְאַנְשֵׁי דָמִים סוּרוּ מֶנִּי׃

19 Ἐὰν ἀποκτείνῃς ἁμαρτωλούς, ὁ θεός, ἄνδρες αἱμάτων, ἐκκλίνατε ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ.	19 ἐὰν ἀποκτείνῃς ἁμαρτωλούς, ὁ Θεός, ἄνδρες αἱμάτων, ἐκκλίνατε ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ,

20 For they speak against you wickedly, and your enemies take your name in vain.

אֲשֶׁר יֹאמְרֻךָ לִמְזִמָּה נָשֻׂא לַשָּׁוְא עָרֶיךָ׃

20 ὅτι ἐρεῖς εἰς διαλογισμόν· λήμψονται εἰς ματαιότητα τὰς πόλεις σου.	20 ὅτι ἔρισταί ἐστε εἰς διαλογισμούς· λήψονται εἰς ματαιότητα τὰς πόλεις σου.

21 Do not I hate them, Oh Yahweh, that hate you? And am not I grieved with those who rise up against you?

הֲלֹוא ־ מְשַׂנְאֶיךָ יְהוָה אֶשְׂנָא וּבִתְקֹומְמֶיךָ אֶתְקֹוטָט׃

21 οὐχὶ τοὺς μισοῦντάς σε, κύριε, ἐμίσησα καὶ ἐπὶ τοῖς ἐχθροῖς σου ἐξετηκόμην;	21 οὐχὶ τοὺς μισοῦντάς σε, Κύριε, ἐμίσησα καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἐχθρούς σου ἐξετηκόμην;

22 I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them my enemies.

תַּכְלִית שִׂנְאָה שְׂנֵאתִים לְאֹויְבִים הָיוּ לִי׃

23 Search me, Oh God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts;

חָקְרֵנִי אֵל וְדַע לְבָבִי בְּחָנֵנִי וְדַע שַׂרְעַפָּי׃

23 δοκίμασόν με, ὁ θεός, καὶ γνῶθι τὴν καρδίαν μου, ἔτασόν με καὶ γνῶθι τὰς τρίβους μου	23 δοκίμασόν με, ὁ Θεός, καὶ γνῶθι τὴν καρδίαν μου, ἔτασόν με καὶ γνῶθι τὰς τρίβους μου.

24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

וּרְאֵה אִם ־ דֶּרֶךְ ־ עֹצֶב בִּי וּנְחֵנִי בְּדֶרֶךְ עֹולָם׃

24 καὶ ἰδὲ εἰ ὁδὸς ἀνομίας ἐν ἐμοί, καὶ ὁδήγησόν με ἐν ὁδῷ αἰωνίᾳ.	24 καὶ ἴδε εἰ ὁδὸς ἀνομίας ἐν ἐμοί, καὶ ὁδήγησόν με ἐν ὁδῷ αἰωνίᾳ.
