Prophecies against Neighboring Nations

1 The burden of the word of Yahweh in the land of Hadrach, and Damascus shall be the rest of it: when the eyes of man, as of all the tribes of Israēl, shall be toward Yahweh.

1 The received message of the Lord’s word. His sacrifice is in the land of Sedrach, and in Damascus; because the Lord sees men, and all the tribes of Israēl. 1 The received message of the Lord’s word. His sacrifice is in the land of Sedrach, and in Damascus; because the Lord sees men, and all the tribes of Israēl.

2 And Hamath also shall border thereby; Tyrus, and Zidon, though it be very wise.

2 And in Emath, and in its borders, Tyre and Sidōn, because they were very wise. 2 And in Emath, and in its borders, Tyre and Sidōn, because they were very wise.

3 And Tyrus built herself a strong hold, and heaped up silver as the dust, and fine gold as the mire of the streets.

3 And Tyre built fortresses for itself, and treasued up silver like dust, and gathered gold like the mud on the roads. 3 And Tyre built fortresses for itself, and treasued up silver like dust, and gathered gold like the mud on the roads.

4 Look! the Lord will cast her out, and he will smite her power in the sea; and she shall be devoured with fire.

4 Therefore the Lord will possess it and smite its power into the sea and it will be consumed by fire. 4 Therefore the Lord will possess it and smite its power into the sea and it will be consumed by fire.

5 Ashkelon shall see it, and fear; Gaza also shall see it, and be very sorrowful, and Ekron; for her expectation shall be ashamed; and the king shall perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon shall not be inhabited.

5 Askalōn shall see and be afraid; Gaza also, and feel greatly pain, and Akkarōn; because it is ashamed by its transgression; and the king shall perish from Gazē, and Askalōn shall not be inhabited. 5 Askalōn shall see and be afraid; Gaza also, and feel greatly pain, and Akkarōn; because it is ashamed by its transgression; and the king shall perish from Gazē, and Askalōn shall not be inhabited.

6 And a bastard shall dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

6 And aliens shall dwell in Azōtōs, and I will pull down the pride of the foreigners. 6 And aliens shall dwell in Azōtōs, and I will pull down the pride of the foreigners.

7 And I will take away his blood out of his mouth, and his abominations from between his teeth; but he who remains, even he, shall be for our God, and he shall be as a governor in Judah, and Ekron as a Jebusite.

7 And I will remove their blood out of their mouth, and their abominations from between their teeth; and these also shall be left for our God, and they will be like a captain of a thousand in Jouda, and Akkarōn like the Jebousite. 7 And I will remove their blood out of their mouth, and their abominations from between their teeth; and these also shall be left for our God, and they will be like a captain of a thousand in Jouda, and Akkarōn like the Jebousite.

8 And I will encamp about my house because of the army, because of him who passes by, and because of him who returns; and no oppressor shall pass through them any more; for now have I seen with my eyes.

8 And I will erect a substructure for my house, so that no one may pass through, nor return, neither will anyone come on them again to drive them out; because now I have seen with my eyes. 8 And I will erect a substructure for my house, so that no one may pass through, nor return, neither will anyone come on them again to drive them out; because now I have seen with my eyes.

9 Rejoice greatly, Oh daughter of Zion; shout, Oh daughter of Jerusalem: behold, your King comes to you: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding on a donkey, and on a colt the foal of a donkey.

9 Rejoice greatly, Oh daughter of Siōn; proclaim, Oh daughter of Jerusalēm; look! your king is coming to you, just, and he is saving; meek and riding on a beast of burden, and a young foal. 9 Rejoice greatly, Oh daughter of Siōn; proclaim, Oh daughter of Jerusalēm; look! your king is coming to you, just, and he is saving; meek and riding on a beast of burden, and a young foal.

10 And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off; and he shall speak peace to the heathen; and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from river even to the ends of the earth.

10 And he will destroy the chariots out of Ephraim, and the cavalry out of Jerusalēm, and the military bow will be destroyed; and there will be abundance and peace from the nations; and he will rule over the waters as far as the sea, and of the rivers to the ends of the earth. 10 And he will destroy the chariots out of Ephraim, and the cavalry out of Jerusalēm, and the military bow will be destroyed; and there will be abundance and peace from the nations; and he will rule over the waters as far as the sea, and from the rivers to the ends of the earth.

Deliverance of Judah and Ephraim

11 As for you also, by your covenant’s blood I have sent forth your prisoners out of the pit in which is no water.

11 And you, by the blood of the covenant, have sent your prisoners out of the pit that has no water. 11 And you, by the blood of your covenant, have sent your prisoners out of the pit that has no water.

12 Turn to the strong hold, you prisoners of hope: even today do I declare that I will render double to you;

12 Oh prisoners of the assembly, you shall dwell in a fortress; and in exchange for one day of your captivity, I will repay you double. 12 Oh prisoners of the assembly, you shall dwell in a fortress; and in exchange for one day of your captivity, I will repay you double.

13 When I have bent Judah for me, filled the bow with Ephraim, and raised up your sons, Oh Zion, against your sons, Oh Greece, and made you as the sword of a mighty man.

13 Because I have flexed you, Oh Jouda, like a bow for myself, I filled Ephraim; and I will raise up your children, Oh Siōn, against the children of the Greeks, and I will manipulate you like a warrior’s sword. 13 Because I have flexed you, Oh Jouda, like a bow for myself, I filled Ephraim; and I will raise up your children, Oh Siōn, against the children of the Greeks, and I will manipulate you like a warrior’s sword.

14 And Yahweh shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning; and Adonai Yahweh shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south.

14 And the Lord shall be over them, and shall go out like a lightning bolt; and the Lord Almighty shall trumpet with his trumpet; and shall come with the stormy wave of his threat. 14 And the Lord shall be over them, and shall go out like a lightning bolt; and the Lord Almighty shall trumpet with his trumpet; and shall come with the stormy wave of his threat.

15 Yahweh of hosts shall defend them; and they shall devour, and subdue with sling stones; and they shall drink, and make a noise as through wine; and they shall be filled like bowls, and as the corners of the altar.

15 The Lord Almighty shall protect them, and they shall consume them, and bury them under a pile of sling-stones; and they shall drink them up like wine, and fill the altar like saucers. 15 The Lord Almighty shall protect them, and they shall consume them, and bury them under a pile of sling-stones; and they shall drink them up like wine, and fill the altar like saucers.

16 And Yahweh their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people; for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as an ensign on his land.

16 And on that day, the Lord shall save them, his people like a flock; because sacred stones are rolling on his land. 16 And on that day, their Lord God shall save them, his people like a flock; because sacred stones are rolling on his land.

17 For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! grain shall make the young men cheerful, and new wine the maids.

17 Because if anything of his is good, and if anything of his is fair, grain will be for the young men and fragrant wine for the virgins. 17 Because if anything of his is good, and if anything of his is fair, grain will be for the young men and fragrant wine for the virgins.
