Chapter 12
Old Greek | Theodotion |
---|
1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which stands for the children of your people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time; and at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who shall be found written in the book.
1 “And at that hour Michael, the great angel who stands over the sons of your people, will pass by. That is a day of affliction, which will be such as has not occurred since they were born until thaat day. And on that day the whole people will be exalted, whoever is found inscribed in the book. | 1 And at that time Michael the great prince shall stand up, that stands over the children of your people; and there shall be a time of tribulation, such tribulation as hasn’t been from the time that there was a nation on the earth until that time: at that time your people shall be delivered, even everyone who is written in the book. |
2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
2 And many of those who sleep in the flat of the earth will arise, some to everlasting life but others to shame and others to dispersion [and contempt] everlasting. | 2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to reproach and everlasting shame. |
3 And they who be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they who turn many to righteousness as the stars forever and ever.
3 And those who are intelligent will light up like the luminaries of heaven, and those who strengthen my words will be as the stars of heaven forever and ever. | 3 And the wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament, and some of the many righteous as the stars forever and ever. |
4 But you, Oh Daniēl, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
4 And you, Daniēl, hide the ordinances, and seal the book until the btime of consummationb, until the many rage violently and the earth is filled with injustice.” | 4 And you, Daniēl, close the words, and seal the book to the time of the end; until many are taught, and knowledge is increased. |
5 Then I Daniēl looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river.
5 And I, Daniēl, saw, and lo, two others stood, one on this side of the stream and one on the other. | 5 And I Daniēl saw, and, behold, two others stood, on one side of the bank of the river, and the other on the other side of the bank of the river. |
6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was on the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?
6 And they said to the one wearing linen, “O, O Sir, when then will you do the consummation of the wonders and the purification of these things which you have told?” | 6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was over the water of the river, When will be the end of the wonders which you have mentioned? |
7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was on the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by him who lives forever that it shall be for a time, times, and a half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
7 And I heard the one wearing linen, who was above the water of the stream: “Until the btime of the consummationb.” And he raised the right hand and left hand toward heaven, and he swore by God, who lives forever, “The consummation of the powerc for the release of the holy people will be at a time and times and half a time, and all these things will be accomplished.” | 7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was over the water of the river, and he lifted up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by him who lives forever, that it should be for a time of times and half a time: when the dispersion is ended they shall know all these things. |
8 And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, Oh my Lord, what shall be the end of these things?
8 And I heard and did not comprehend regarding the time itself, and I said, “Sir, what is the interpretation of this word [and what are these illustrations]?” | 8 And I heard, but I understood not; and I said, Oh Lord, what will be the end of these things? |
9 And he said, Go your way, Daniēl; for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
9 And he said to me, “Run along, Daniēl, for the ordinances have been hidden and sealed until many are tested and consecrated, | 9 And he said, Go, Daniēl; for the words are closed and sealed up to the time of the end. |
10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
10 and the sinners sin. And no sinners will ever comprehend, and those who understand will pay heed. | 10 Many must be tested, and thoroughly whitened, and tried with fire, and consecrated; but the transgressors shall transgress; and none of the transgressors shall understand; but the wise shall understand. |
11 And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that makes desolate set up, there shall be 1000 200 and 90 days.
11 From the time that the [perpetual] sacrifice was taken away and the abomination of desolation was prepared to be given, there are 1290 days. | 11 And from the time of the removal of the perpetual sacrifice, when the abomination of desolation shall be set up, there shall be a 1290 days. |
12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the 1335 days.
12 Happy is the one who continues, because he will gather 1335 days. | 12 Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the 1335 days. |
13 But go you your way till the end be; for you shall rest, and stand in your lot at the end of the days.
13 And you, go! Be off! For there are yet days and hours until the fulfillment of the consummation. [And you will rest and will rise on your glory at the consummation of days.]” | 13 But go you, and rest; for there are yet days and seasons to the fulfillment of the end; and you shall stand in your lot at the end of the days. |
