Ezekiel

1 Again the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

וַיְהִי דְבַר ־ יְהוָה אֵלַי לֵאמֹר׃

2 Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them, When I bring the sword on a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman.

בֶּן ־ אָדָם דַּבֵּר אֶל ־ בְּנֵי ־ עַמְּךָ וְאָמַרְתָּ אֲלֵיהֶם אֶרֶץ כִּי ־ אָבִיא עָלֶיהָ חָרֶב וְלָקְחוּ עַם ־ הָאָרֶץ אִישׁ אֶחָד מִקְצֵיהֶם וְנָתְנוּ אֹתֹו לָהֶם לְצֹפֶה׃

2 υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, λάλησον τοῖς υἱοῖς τοῦ λαοῦ σου καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτούς γῆ, ἐφ’ ἣν ἄν ἐπάγω ῥομφαίαν, καὶ λάβῃ ὁ λαὸς τῆς γῆς ἄνθρωπον ἕνα ἐξ αὐτῶν καὶ δῶσιν αὐτὸν ἑαυτοῖς εἰς σκοπόν,	2 Υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, λάλησον τοῖς υἱοῖς τοῦ λαοῦ σου καὶ ἐρεῖς πρὸς αὐτούς· γῆ, ἐφ’ ἣν ἄν ἐπάγω ῥομφαίαν, καὶ λάβῃ ὁ λαὸς τῆς γῆς ἄνθρωπον ἕνα ἐξ αὐτῶν καὶ δῶσιν αὐτὸν ἑαυτοῖς εἰς σκοπόν,

3 If when he sees the sword come on the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people;

וְרָאָה אֶת ־ הַחֶרֶב בָּאָה עַל ־ הָאָרֶץ וְתָקַע בַּשֹּׁופָר וְהִזְהִיר אֶת ־ הָעָם׃

3 καὶ ἴδῃ τὴν ῥομφαίαν ἐρχομένην ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ σαλπίσῃ τῇ σάλπιγγι καὶ σημάνῃ τῷ λαῷ,	3 καὶ ἴδῃ τὴν ῥομφαίαν ἐρχομένην ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ σαλπίσῃ τῇ σάλπιγγι καὶ σημάνῃ τῷ λαῷ,

4 Then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet, and takes not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be on his own head.

וְשָׁמַע הַשֹּׁמֵעַ אֶת ־ קֹול הַשֹּׁופָר וְלֹא נִזְהָר וַתָּבֹוא חֶרֶב וַתִּקָּחֵהוּ דָּמֹו בְרֹאשֹׁו יִהְיֶה׃

4 καὶ ἀκούσῃ ὁ ἀκούσας τὴν φωνὴν τῆς σάλπιγγος καὶ μὴ φυλάξηται, καὶ ἐπέλθῃ ἡ ῥομφαία καὶ καταλάβῃ αὐτόν, τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ ἔσται·	4 καὶ ἀκούσῃ ὁ ἀκούσας τὴν φωνὴν τῆς σάλπιγγος καὶ μὴ φυλάξηται, καὶ ἐπέλθῃ ἡ ῥομφαία καὶ καταλάβῃ αὐτόν, τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ ἔσται·

5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and didn’t take warning; his blood shall be on him. But he who takes warning shall deliver his soul.

אֵת קֹול הַשֹּׁופָר שָׁמַע וְלֹא נִזְהָר דָּמֹו בֹּו יִהְיֶה וְהוּא נִזְהָר נַפְשֹׁו מִלֵּט׃

5 ὅτι τὴν φωνὴν τῆς σάλπιγγος ἀκούσας οὐκ ἐφυλάξατο, τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐπ’ αὐτοῦ ἔσται, καὶ οὗτος, ὅτι ἐφυλάξατο, τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἐξείλατο.	5 ὅτι τὴν φωνὴν τῆς σάλπιγγος ἀκούσας οὐκ ἐφυλάξατο, τὸ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐπ’ αὐτοῦ ἔσται, καὶ οὗτος ὅτι ἐφυλάξατο, τὴν ψυχὴν αὐτοῦ ἐξείλατο.

6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people isn’t warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.

וְהַצֹּפֶה כִּי ־ יִרְאֶה אֶת ־ הַחֶרֶב בָּאָה וְלֹא ־ תָקַע בַּשֹּׁופָר וְהָעָם לֹא ־ נִזְהָר וַתָּבֹוא חֶרֶב וַתִּקַּח מֵהֶם נָפֶשׁ הוּא בַּעֲוֹנֹו נִלְקָח וְדָמֹו מִיַּד ־ הַצֹּפֶה אֶדְרֹשׁ׃ ס

6 καὶ ὁ σκοπός, ἐὰν ἴδῃ τὴν ῥομφαίαν ἐρχομένην καὶ μὴ σημάνῃ τῇ σάλπιγγι, καὶ ὁ λαὸς μὴ φυλάξηται, καὶ ἐλθοῦσα ἡ ῥομφαία λάβῃ ἐξ αὐτῶν ψυχήν, αὕτη διὰ τὴν αὑτῆς ἀνομίαν ἐλήμφθη, καὶ τὸ αἷμα ἐκ τῆς χειρὸς τοῦ σκοποῦ ἐκζητήσω.	6 καὶ ὁ σκοπός, ἐὰν ἴδῃ τὴν ῥομφαίαν ἐρχομένην καὶ μὴ σημάνῃ τῇ σάλπιγγι, καὶ ὁ λαὸς μὴ φυλάξηται, καὶ ἐλθοῦσα ἡ ῥομφαία λάβῃ ἐξ αὐτῶν ψυχήν, αὕτη διὰ τὴν αὐτῆς ἀνομίαν ἐλήφθη, καὶ τὸ αἷμα ἐκ χειρὸς τοῦ σκοποῦ ἐκζητήσω.

7 So you, Oh son of man, I have set you a watchman to the house of Israēl; therefore you shall hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me.

וְאַתָּה בֶן ־ אָדָם צֹפֶה נְתַתִּיךָ לְבֵית יִשְׂרָאֵל וְשָׁמַעְתָּ מִפִּי דָּבָר וְהִזְהַרְתָּ אֹתָם מִמֶּנִּי׃

7 καὶ σύ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, σκοπὸν δέδωκά σὲ τῷ οἴκῳ Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀκούσῃ ἐκ στόματός μου λόγον.	7 καὶ σύ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, σκοπὸν δέδωκά σε τῷ οἴκῳ Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀκούσῃ ἐκ στόματός μου λόγον.

8 When I say to the wicked, Oh wicked man, you shall surely die; if you don’t speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at your hand.

בְּאָמְרִי לָרָשָׁע רָשָׁע מֹות תָּמוּת וְלֹא דִבַּרְתָּ לְהַזְהִיר רָשָׁע מִדַּרְכֹּו הוּא רָשָׁע בַעֲוֹנֹו יָמוּת וְדָמֹו מִיָּדְךָ אֲבַקֵּשׁ׃

8 ἐν τῷ εἶπαί με τῷ ἁμαρτωλῷ θανάτῳ θανατωθήσῃ, καὶ μὴ λαλήσῃς τοῦ φυλάξασθαι τὸν ἀσεβῆ ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ αὐτοῦ, αὐτὸς ὁ ἄνομος τῇ ἀνομίᾳ αὐτοῦ ἀποθανεῖται, τὸ δὲ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῆς χειρός σου ἐκζητήσω.	8 ἐν τῷ εἰπεῖν με τῷ ἁμαρτωλῷ· θανάτῳ θανατωθήσῃ, καὶ μὴ λαλήσῃς τοῦ φυλάξασθαι τὸν ἀσεβῆ ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ αὐτοῦ, αὐτὸς ὁ ἄνομος τῇ ἀνομίᾳ αὐτοῦ ἀποθανεῖται, τὸ δὲ αἷμα αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῆς χειρός σου ἐκζητήσω.

9 Nevertheless, if you warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he doesn’t turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.

וְאַתָּה כִּי ־ הִזְהַרְתָּ רָשָׁע מִדַּרְכֹּו לָשׁוּב מִמֶּנָּה וְלֹא ־ שָׁב מִדַּרְכֹּו הוּא בַּעֲוֹנֹו יָמוּת וְאַתָּה נַפְשְׁךָ הִצַּלְתָּ׃ ס

9 σὺ δὲ ἐὰν προαπαγγείλῃς τῷ ἀσεβεῖ τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτοῦ τοῦ ἀποστρέψαι ἀπ’ αὐτῆς, καὶ μὴ ἀποστρέψῃ ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ αὐτοῦ, οὗτος τῇ ἀσεβείᾳ αὐτοῦ ἀποθανεῖται, καὶ σὺ τὴν ψυχὴν σαυτοῦ ἐξῄρησαι.	9 σὺ δὲ ἐὰν προαπαγγείλῃς τῷ ἀσεβεῖ τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτοῦ τοῦ ἀποστρέψαι ἀπ’ αὐτῆς, καὶ μὴ ἀποστρέψῃ ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ αὐτοῦ, οὗτος τῇ ἀσεβείᾳ αὐτοῦ ἀποθανεῖται, καὶ σὺ τὴν ψυχὴν σεαυτοῦ ἐξῄρησαι.

10 Therefore, Oh you son of man, speak to the house of Israēl; Thus you speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be on us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live?

וְאַתָּה בֶן ־ אָדָם אֱמֹר אֶל ־ בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל כֵּן אֲמַרְתֶּם לֵאמֹר כִּי ־ פְשָׁעֵינוּ וְחַטֹּאתֵינוּ עָלֵינוּ וּבָם אֲנַחְנוּ נְמַקִּים וְאֵיךְ נִחְיֶה׃

10 καὶ σύ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, εἰπὸν τῷ οἴκῳ Ἰσραὴλ οὕτως ἐλαλήσατε λέγοντες αἱ πλάναι ἡμῶν καὶ αἱ ἀνομίαι ἡμῶν ἐφ’ ἡμῖν εἰσιν, καὶ ἐν αὐταῖς ἡμεῖς τηκόμεθα· καὶ πῶς ζησόμεθα;	10 Καὶ σύ, υἱὲ ἀνθρώπου, εἰπὸν τῷ οἴκῳ Ἰσραήλ· οὕτως ἐλαλήσατε λέγοντες· αἱ πλάναι ἡμῶν καὶ αἱ ἀνομίαι ἡμῶν ἐφ’ ἡμῖν εἰσι καὶ ἐν αὐταῖς ἡμεῖς τηκόμεθα· καὶ πῶς ζησόμεθα;

11 Say to them, As I live, says Adonai Yahweh, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn you, turn you from your evil ways; for why will you die, Oh house of Israēl?

אֱמֹר אֲלֵיהֶם חַי ־ אָנִי נְאֻם אֲדֹנָי יְהוִה אִם ־ אֶחְפֹּץ בְּמֹות הָרָשָׁע כִּי אִם ־ בְּשׁוּב רָשָׁע מִדַּרְכֹּו וְחָיָה שׁוּבוּ שׁוּבוּ מִדַּרְכֵיכֶם הָרָעִים וְלָמָּה תָמוּתוּ בֵּית יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ פ

11 εἰπὸν αὐτοῖς ζῶ ἐγώ, τάδε λέγει κύριος οὐ βούλομαι τὸν θάνατον τοῦ ἀσεβοῦς ὡς τὸ ἀποστρέψαι τὸν ἀσεβῆ ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ ζῆν αὐτόν. ἀποστροφῇ ἀποστρέψατε ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ ὑμῶν· καὶ ἵνα τί ἀποθνῄσκετε, οἶκος Ἰσραήλ;	11 εἰπὸν αὐτοῖς· ζῶ ἐγώ, τάδε λέγει Κύριος, οὐ βούλομαι τὸν θάνατον τοῦ ἀσεβοῦς ὡς τὸ ἀποστρέψαι τὸν ἀσεβῆ ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ ζῆν αὐτόν. ἀποστροφῇ ἀποστρέψατε ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ ὑμῶν· καί ἱνατί ἀποθνήσκετε, οἶκος Ἰσραήλ;

12 Therefore, you son of man, say to the children of your people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression: as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall by it in the day that he turns from his wickedness; neither shall the righteous be able to live for his righteousness in the day that he sins.

וְאַתָּה בֶן ־ אָדָם אֱמֹר אֶל ־ בְּנֵי ־ עַמְּךָ צִדְקַת הַצַּדִּיק לֹא תַצִּילֶנּוּ בְּיֹום פִּשְׁעֹו וְרִשְׁעַת הָרָשָׁע לֹא ־ יִכָּשֶׁל בָּהּ בְּיֹום שׁוּבֹו מֵרִשְׁעֹו וְצַדִּיק לֹא יוּכַל לִחְיֹות בָּהּ בְּיֹום חֲטֹאתֹו׃

12 εἰπὸν πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς τοῦ λαοῦ σου δικαιοσύνη δικαίου οὐ μὴ ἐξέληται αὐτὸν ἐν ᾗ ἄν ἡμέρᾳ πλανηθῇ, καὶ ἀνομία ἀσεβοῦς οὐ μὴ κακώσῃ αὐτὸν ἐν ᾗ ἄν ἡμέρᾳ ἀποστρέψῃ ἀπὸ τῆς ἀνομίας αὐτοῦ· καὶ δίκαιος οὐ μὴ δύνηται σωθῆναι.	12 εἰπὸν πρὸς τοὺς υἱοὺς τοῦ λαοῦ σου· δικαιοσύνη δικαίου οὐ μὴ ἐξελεῖται αὐτὸν ἐν ᾗ ἄν ἡμέρᾳ πλανηθῇ, καὶ ἀνομία ἀσεβοῦς οὐ μὴ κακώσῃ αὐτὸν ἐν ᾗ ἄν ἡμέρᾳ ἀποστρέψῃ ἀπὸ τῆς ἀνομίας αὐτοῦ· καὶ δίκαιος οὐ μὴ δύνηται σωθῆναι.

13 When I shall say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his own righteousness, and commit iniquity, all his righteousnesses shall not be remembered; but for his iniquity that he has committed, he shall die for it.

בְּאָמְרִי לַצַּדִּיק חָיֹה יִחְיֶה וְהוּא ־ בָטַח עַל ־ צִדְקָתֹו וְעָשָׂה עָוֶל כָּל ־ צִדְקָתֹו לֹא תִזָּכַרְנָה וּבְעַוְלֹו אֲשֶׁר ־ עָשָׂה בֹּו יָמוּת׃

13 ἐν τῷ εἶπαί με τῷ δικαίῳ οὗτος πέποιθεν ἐπὶ τῇ δικαιοσύνῃ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ποιήσῃ ἀνομίαν, πᾶσαι αἱ δικαιοσύναι αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ ἀναμνησθῶσιν· ἐν τῇ ἀδικίᾳ αὐτοῦ, ᾗ ἐποίησεν, ἐν αὐτῇ ἀποθανεῖται.	13 ἐν τῷ εἰπεῖν με τῷ δικαίῳ· οὗτος πέποιθεν ἐπὶ τῇ δικαιοσύνῃ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ποιήσει ἀνομίαν, πᾶσαι αἱ δικαιοσύναι αὐτοῦ οὐ μὴ ἀναμνησθῶσιν· ἐν τῇ ἀδικίᾳ αὐτοῦ, ᾗ ἐποίησεν, ἐν αὐτῇ ἀποθανεῖται.

14 Again, when I say to the wicked, You shall surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do what is lawful and right;

וּבְאָמְרִי לָרָשָׁע מֹות תָּמוּת וְשָׁב מֵחַטָּאתֹו וְעָשָׂה מִשְׁפָּט וּצְדָקָה׃

14 καὶ ἐν τῷ εἶπαί με τῷ ἀσεβεῖ θανάτῳ θανατωθήσῃ, καὶ ἀποστρέψῃ ἀπὸ τῆς ἁμαρτίας αὐτοῦ καὶ ποιήσῃ κρίμα καὶ δικαιοσύνην	14 καὶ ἐν τῷ εἰπεῖν με τῷ ἀσεβεῖ· θανάτῳ θανατωθήσῃ, καὶ ἀποστρέψει ἀπὸ τῆς ἁμαρτίας αὐτοῦ καὶ ποιήσει κρίμα καὶ δικαιοσύνην

15 If the wicked restore the pledge, give again that he had robbed, walk in the statutes of life, without committing iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die.

חֲבֹל יָשִׁיב רָשָׁע גְּזֵלָה יְשַׁלֵּם בְּחֻקֹּות הַחַיִּים הָלַךְ לְבִלְתִּי עֲשֹׂות עָוֶל חָיֹו יִחְיֶה לֹא יָמוּת׃

15 καὶ ἐνεχύρασμα ἀποδῷ καὶ ἅρπαγμα ἀποτείσῃ, ἐν προστάγμασιν ζωῆς διαπορεύηται τοῦ μὴ ποιῆσαι ἄδικον, ζωῇ ζήσεται καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνῃ·	15 καὶ ἐνεχύρασμα ἀποδῷ καὶ ἅρπαγμα ἀποτίσει, ἐν προστάγμασι ζωῆς διαπορεύηται τοῦ μὴ ποιῆσαι ἄδικον, ζωῇ ζήσεται καὶ οὐ μὴ ἀποθάνῃ.

16 None of his sins that he has committed shall be mentioned to him: he has done what is lawful and right; he shall surely live.

כָּל ־ חַטָּאתֹו אֲשֶׁר חָטָא לֹא תִזָּכַרְנָה לֹו מִשְׁפָּט וּצְדָקָה עָשָׂה חָיֹו יִחְיֶה׃

16 πᾶσαι αἱ ἁμαρτίαι αὐτοῦ, ἃς ἥμαρτεν, οὐ μὴ ἀναμνησθῶσιν· ὅτι κρίμα καὶ δικαιοσύνην ἐποίησεν, ἐν αὐτοῖς ζήσεται.	16 πᾶσαι αἱ ἁμαρτίαι αὐτοῦ, ἃς ἥμαρτεν, οὐ μὴ ἀναμνησθῶσιν, ὅτι κρίμα καὶ δικαιοσύνην ἐποίησεν, ἐν αὐτοῖς ζήσεται.

31 ἔρχονται πρὸς σέ, ὡς συμπορεύεται λαός, καὶ κάθηνται ἐναντίον σου καὶ ἀκούουσιν τὰ ῥήματά σου, καὶ αὐτὰ οὐ μὴ ποιήσουσιν, ὅτι ψεῦδος ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτῶν, καὶ ὀπίσω τῶν μιασμάτων ἡ καρδία αὐτῶν.	31 ἔρχονται πρός σε, ὡς συμπορεύεται λαός, καὶ κάθηνται ἐναντίον σου καὶ ἀκούουσι τὰ ῥήματά σου, καὶ αὐτὰ οὐ μὴ ποιήσουσιν, ὅτι ψεῦδος ἐν τῷ στόματι αὐτῶν, καὶ ὀπίσω τῶν μιασμάτων ἡ καρδία αὐτῶν.
