I Samuel

1 David therefore departed from there, and escaped to the cave Adullam; and when his brothers and all his father’s house heard it, they went down to that place to him.

2 And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented, gathered themselves to him; and he became a captain over them; and there were with him about 400 men.

3 And David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab; and he said to the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, please, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.

5 And the prophet Gad said to David, Abide not in the hold; depart, and get you into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth.

8 That all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that shows me that my son has made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you who is sorry for me, or shows to me that my son has stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?

9 Then answered Doeg the Edomite, which was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

12 And Saul said, Hear now, you son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord.

13 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Σαοὺλ ἵνα τί συνέθου κατ’ ἐμοῦ σὺ καὶ ὁ υἱὸς Ἰεσσαὶ δοῦναί σὲ αὐτῷ ἄρτον καὶ ῥομφαίαν καὶ ἐρωτᾶν αὐτῷ διὰ τοῦ θεοῦ θέσθαι αὐτὸν ἐπ’ ἐμὲ εἰς ἐχθρὸν ὡς ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη;	13 καὶ εἶπε αὐτῷ Σαούλ· ἱνατί συνέθου κατ’ ἐμοῦ σὺ καὶ ὁ υἱὸς Ἰεσσαὶ δοῦναί σε αὐτῷ ἄρτον καὶ ῥομφαίαν καὶ ἐρωτᾶν αὐτῷ διὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ θέσθαι αὐτὸν ἐπ’ ἐμὲ εἰς ἐχθρόν, ὡς ἡ ἡμέρα αὕτη;

15 Did I then begin to inquire of God for him? be it far from me: don’t let the king impute anything to his servant, nor to all the house of my father; for your servant didn’t knowing of all this, less or more.

16 And the king said, You shall surely die, Ahimelech, you, and all your father’s house.

17 And the king said to the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of Yahweh; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and didn’t show it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall on the priests of Yahweh.

17 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τοῖς παρατρέχουσιν τοῖς ἐφεστηκόσιν ἐπ’ αὐτόν προσαγάγετε καὶ θανατοῦτε τοὺς ἱερεῖς τοῦ κυρίου, ὅτι ἡ χεὶρ αὐτῶν μετὰ Δαυίδ, καὶ ὅτι ἔγνωσαν ὅτι φεύγει αὐτός, καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκάλυψαν τὸ ὠτίον μου. καὶ οὐκ ἐβουλήθησαν οἱ παῖδες τοῦ βασιλέως ἐπενεγκεῖν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν ἀπαντῆσαι εἰς τοὺς ἱερεῖς κυρίου.	17 καὶ εἶπε ὁ βασιλεὺς τοῖς παρατρέχουσι τοῖς ἐφεστηκόσι πρὸς αὐτόν· προσαγάγετε καὶ θανατοῦτε τοὺς ἱερεῖς τοῦ Κυρίου, ὅτι ἡ χεὶρ αὐτῶν μετὰ Δαυίδ, καὶ ὅτι ἔγνωσαν ὅτι φεύγει αὐτός, καὶ οὐκ ἀπεκάλυψαν τὸ ὠτίον μου. καὶ οὐκ ἐβουλήθησαν οἱ παῖδες τοῦ βασιλέως ἐπενεγκεῖν τὰς χεῖρας αὐτῶν ἀπαντῆσαι εἰς τοὺς ἱερεῖς Κυρίου.

18 And the king said to Doeg, Turn you, and fall on the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell on the priests, and killed on that day 85 persons that did wear a linen ephod.

18 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ Δωὴκ ἐπιστρέφου σὺ καὶ ἀπάντα εἰς τοὺς ἱερεῖς. καὶ ἐπεστράφη Δωὴκ ὁ Σύρος καὶ ἐθανάτωσεν τοὺς ἱερεῖς κυρίου ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ, τριακοσίους καὶ πέντε ἄνδρας, πάντας αἴροντας ἐφούδ.	18 καὶ εἶπε ὁ βασιλεὺς τῷ Δωήκ· ἐπιστρέφου σὺ καὶ ἀπάντα εἰς τοὺς ἱερεῖς. καὶ ἐπεστράφη Δωὴκ ὁ Σύρος καὶ ἐθανάτωσε τοὺς ἱερεῖς τοῦ Κυρίου ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐκείνῃ, τριακοσίους καὶ πέντε ἄνδρας, πάντας αἴροντας ἐφούδ.

19 And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and donkeys, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.
