1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, “Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what is become of him.”

4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with an engraving tool, after he had made it a molten calf; and they said, “These are your gods, Oh Israēl, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”

7 And Yahweh said to Moses, “Go, get down; for your people, which you brought out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves.

11 And Moses besought Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, why does your wrath wax hot against your people, which you have brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand?

11 καὶ ἐδεήθη Μωυσῆς ἔναντι κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ εἶπεν ἵνα τί, κύριε, θυμοῖ ὀργῇ εἰς τὸν λαόν σου, οὓς ἐξήγαγες ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου ἐν ἰσχύϊ μεγάλῃ καὶ ἐν τῷ βραχίονί σου τῷ ὑψηλῷ;	11 καὶ ἐδεήθη Μωυσῆς ἔναντι Κυρίου τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ εἶπε· ἱνατί, Κύριε, θυμοῖ ὀργῇ εἰς τὸν λαόν σου, οὓς ἐξήγαγες ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου ἐν ἰσχύϊ μεγάλῃ καὶ ἐν τῷ βραχίονί σου τῷ ὑψηλῷ;

15 And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand. The tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.

15 καὶ ἀποστρέψας Μωυσῆς κατέβη ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄρους, καὶ αἱ δύο πλάκες τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτοῦ, πλάκες λίθιναι καταγεγραμμέναι ἐξ ἀμφοτέρων τῶν μερῶν αὐτῶν, ἔνθεν καὶ ἔνθεν ἦσαν γεγραμμέναι·	15 Καὶ ἀποστρέψας Μωυσῆς κατέβη ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄρους, καὶ αἱ δύο πλάκες τοῦ μαρτυρίου ἐν ταῖς χερσὶν αὐτοῦ, πλάκες λίθιναι καταγεγραμμέναι ἐξ ἀμφοτέρων τῶν μερῶν αὐτῶν, ἔνθεν καὶ ἔνθεν ἦσαν γεγραμμέναι·

17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is a noise of war in the camp.”

18 καὶ λέγει οὐκ ἔστιν φωνὴ ἐξαρχόντων κατ’ ἰσχὺν οὐδὲ φωνὴ ἐξαρχόντων τροπῆς, ἀλλὰ φωνὴν ἐξαρχόντων οἴνου ἐγὼ ἀκούω.	18 καὶ λέγει· οὐκ ἔστι φωνὴ ἐξαρχόντων κατ’ ἰσχύν, οὐδὲ φωνὴ ἐξαρχόντων τροπῆς, ἀλλὰ φωνὴν ἐξαρχόντων οἴνου ἐγὼ ἀκούω.

19 And it happened, as soon as he came near to the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing; and Moses’ anger grew hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mount.

20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burned it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and threw it on the water, and made the sons of Israēl drink of it.

20 καὶ λαβὼν τὸν μόσχον, ὃν ἐποίησαν, κατέκαυσεν αὐτὸν ἐν πυρὶ καὶ κατήλεσεν αὐτὸν λεπτὸν καὶ ἔσπειρεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ ὕδωρ καὶ ἐπότισεν αὐτὸ τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰσραήλ.	20 καὶ λαβὼν τὸν μόσχον, ὃν ἐποίησαν, κατέκαυσεν αὐτὸν ἐν πυρὶ καὶ κατήλεσεν αὐτὸν λεπτὸν καὶ ἔσπειρεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ ὕδωρ καὶ ἐπότισεν αὐτὸ τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἰσραήλ.

21 And Moses said to Aaron, “What did this people do to you, that you have brought so great a sin on them?”

25 And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked to their shame among their enemies:)

26 Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, “Who is on Yahweh’s side? Let him come to me.” And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.

28 And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses; and there fell of the people that day about 3000 men.

29 For Moses had said, “Consecrate yourselves today to Yahweh, even every man on his son, and on his brother; that he may bestow on you a blessing this day.”

30 And it happened on the next day, that Moses said to the people, “You have sinned a great sin; and now I will go up to Yahweh; perhaps I shall make an atonement for your sin.”

30 καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὴν αὔριον εἶπεν Μωυσῆς πρὸς τὸν λαόν ὑμεῖς ἡμαρτήκατε ἁμαρτίαν μεγάλην· καὶ νῦν ἀναβήσομαι πρὸς τὸν θεόν, ἵνα ἐξιλάσωμαι περὶ τῆς ἁμαρτίας ὑμῶν.	30 Καὶ ἐγένετο μετὰ τὴν αὔριον εἶπε Μωυσῆς πρὸς τὸν λαόν· ὑμεῖς ἡμαρτήκατε ἁμαρτίαν μεγάλην· καὶ νῦν ἀναβήσομαι πρὸς τὸν Θεόν, ἵνα ἐξιλάσωμαι περὶ τῆς ἁμαρτίας ὑμῶν.

31 And Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.

32 Yet now, if you will forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, please, out of your book which you have written.”

33 And Yahweh said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

34 Therefore now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you: behold, my Angel shall go before you: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin on them.”

34 But go now, descend and lead this people to the place that I told you. Look! my angel will go before your face. 35 And Yahweh plagued the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.
