Exodus

1 And Yahweh said to Moses, “Depart, and go up hence, you and the people which you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacōb, saying, ‘Unto your seed will I give it.’

1 Καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν πορεύου ἀνάβηθι ἐντεῦθεν σὺ καὶ ὁ λαός σου, οὓς ἐξήγαγες ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου, εἰς τὴν γῆν, ἣν ὤμοσα τῷ Ἁβραὰμ καὶ Ἰσαὰκ καὶ Ἰακὼβ λέγων τῷ σπέρματι ὑμῶν δώσω αὐτήν.	1 Καὶ εἶπε Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν· προπορεύου, ἀνάβηθι ἐντεῦθεν σὺ καὶ ὁ λαός σου, οὓς ἐξήγαγες ἐκ γῆς Αἰγύπτου, εἰς τὴν γῆν, ἣν ὠμόσαμεν τῷ Ἁβραὰμ καὶ Ἰσαὰκ καὶ Ἰακὼβ λέγων· τῷ σπέρματι ὑμῶν δώσω αὐτήν.

2 καὶ συναποστελῶ τὸν ἄγγελόν μου, πρὸ προσώπου σου καὶ ἐκβαλεῖ τὸν Ἀμορραῖον καὶ Χετταῖον καὶ Φερεζαῖον καὶ Γεργεσαῖον καὶ Εὐαῖον καὶ Ἰεβουσαῖον.	2 καὶ συναποστελῶ τὸν ἄγγελόν μου πρὸ προσώπου σου, καὶ ἐκβαλεῖ τὸν Ἀμορραῖον καὶ Χετταῖον καὶ Φερεζαῖον καὶ Γεργεσαῖον καὶ Εὐαῖον καὶ Ἰεβουσαῖον καὶ Χαναναῖον.

3 καὶ εἰσάξω σὲ εἰς γῆν ῥέουσαν γάλα καὶ μέλι· οὐ γὰρ μὴ συναναβῶ μετὰ σου διὰ τὸ λαὸν σκληροτράχηλόν σὲ εἶναι, ἵνα μὴ ἐξαναλώσω σὲ ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ.	3 καὶ εἰσάξω σε εἰς γῆν ῥέουσαν γάλα καὶ μέλι· οὐ γὰρ μὴ συναναβῶ μετὰ σοῦ, διὰ τὸ λαὸν σκληροτράχηλόν σε εἶναι, ἵνα μὴ ἐξαναλώσω σε ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ.
3 And he will bring you into a land flowing with milk and honey. 4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned; and no man put on his ornaments.

5 For Yahweh had said to Moses, “Say to the sons of Israēl, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. I will come up into the midst of you in a moment, and consume you; therefore now put off your ornaments from you, that I may know what to do to you.’ ”

5 And the Lord said to the sons of Israēl, “You are a stiffnecked people. Watch out! lest I bring another plague on you and exterminate you. 6 And the sons of Israēl stripped themselves of their ornaments by mount Horeb.

7 And Moses took the tent, and camped it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it happened, that everyone which sought Yahweh went out to the tent of the congregation, which was outside the camp.

7 καὶ λαβὼν Μωυσῆς τὴν σκηνὴν αὐτοῦ ἔπηξεν ἔξω τῆς παρεμβολῆς μακρὰν ἀπὸ τῆς παρεμβολῆς, καὶ ἐκλήθη σκηνὴ μαρτυρίου· καὶ ἐγένετο πᾶς ὁ ζητῶν κύριον ἐξεπορεύετο εἰς τὴν σκηνὴν ἔξω τῆς παρεμβολῆς.	7 Καὶ λαβὼν Μωυσῆς τὴν σκηνὴν αὐτοῦ ἔπηξεν ἔξω τῆς παρεμβολῆς, μακρὰν ἀπὸ τῆς παρεμβολῆς, καὶ ἐκλήθη σκηνὴ μαρτυρίου· καὶ ἐγένετο, πᾶς ὁ ζητῶν Κύριον ἐξεπορεύετο εἰς τὴν σκηνὴν τὴν ἔξω τῆς παρεμβολῆς.
7 And Moses took his tent and set it up outside the camp, far from the camp, and it was called a tent of witness . 8 And it happened, when Moses went out to the tent, that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the tent.

8 ἡνίκα δ’ ἄν εἰσεπορεύετο Μωυσῆς εἰς τὴν σκηνὴν ἔξω τῆς παρεμβολῆς, εἱστήκει πᾶς ὁ λαὸς σκοπεύοντες ἕκαστος παρὰ τὰς θύρας τῆς σκηνῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ κατενοοῦσαν ἀπιόντος Μωυσῇ ἕως τοῦ εἰσελθεῖν αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν σκηνήν.	8 ἡνίκα δ’ ἄν εἰσεπορεύετο Μωυσῆς εἰς τὴν σκηνὴν ἔξω τῆς παρεμβολῆς, εἱστήκει πᾶς ὁ λαὸς σκοπεύοντες ἕκαστος παρὰ τὰς θύρας τῆς σκηνῆς αὐτοῦ καὶ κατενοοῦσαν ἀπιόντος Μωυσῆ ἕως τοῦ εἰσελθεῖν αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν σκηνήν.

9 And it happened, as Moses entered into the tent, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tent, and Yahweh talked with Moses.

9 ὡς δ’ ἄν εἰσῆλθεν Μωυσῆς εἰς τὴν σκηνήν, κατέβαινεν ὁ στῦλος τῆς νεφέλης καὶ ἵστατο ἐπὶ τὴν θύραν τῆς σκηνῆς, καὶ ἐλάλει Μωυσῇ·	9 ὡς δ’ ἄν εἰσῆλθε Μωυσῆς εἰς τὴν σκηνήν, κατέβαινεν ὁ στῦλος τῆς νεφέλης, καὶ ἵστατο ἐπὶ τὴν θύραν τῆς σκηνῆς, καὶ ἐλάλει Μωυσῇ·

10 And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tent door; and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door.

11 And Yahweh spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he turned again into the camp; but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, didn’t depart out of the tent.

11 καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν ἐνώπιος ἐνωπίῳ, ὡς εἴ τις λαλήσει πρὸς τὸν ἑαυτοῦ φίλον. καὶ ἀπελύετο εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν, ὁ δὲ θεράπων Ἰησοῦς υἱὸς Ναυὴ νέος οὐκ ἐξεπορεύετο ἐκ τῆς σκηνῆς.	11 καὶ ἐλάλησε Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν ἐνώπιος ἐνωπίῳ, ὡς εἴ τις λαλήσει πρὸς τὸν ἑαυτοῦ φίλον. καὶ ἀπελύετο εἰς τὴν παρεμβολήν, ὁ δὲ θεράπων Ἰησοῦς υἱὸς Ναυῆ νέος οὐκ ἐξεπορεύετο ἐκ τῆς σκηνῆς.
11 And the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as if someone should speak to his own friend. 12 And Moses said to Yahweh, “See, you say to me, ‘Bring up this people; and you haven’t let me know whom you will send with me.’ Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in my sight.’

12 καὶ εἶπεν Μωυσῆς πρὸς κύριον ἰδοὺ σύ μοι λέγεις ἀνάγαγε τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον· σὺ δὲ οὐκ ἐδήλωσάς μοι ὃν συναποστελεῖς μετ’ ἐμοῦ· σὺ δέ μοι εἶπας οἶδά σὲ παρὰ πάντας, καὶ χάριν ἔχεις παρ’ ἐμοί.	12 Καὶ εἶπε Μωυσῆς πρὸς Κύριον· ἰδοὺ σύ μοι λέγεις· ἀνάγαγε τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον, σὺ δὲ οὐκ ἐδήλωσάς μοι, ὃν συναποστελεῖς μετ’ ἐμοῦ· σὺ δέ μοι εἶπας· οἶδά σε παρὰ πάντας, καὶ χάριν ἔχεις παρ’ ἐμοί.
12 And Moses said to the Lord, “Look! you say to me, ‛Lead this people!’ but you didn’t disclose to me whom you would send along with me. 13 Now therefore, please, if I have found grace in your sight, show me now your way, that I may know you, that I may find grace in your sight; and consider that this nation is your people.”

13 εἰ οὖν εὕρηκα χάριν ἐναντίον σου, ἐμφάνισόν μοι σεαυτόν· γνωστῶς ἴδω σε, ὅπως ἄν ὦ εὑρηκὼς χάριν ἐναντίον σου, καὶ ἵνα γνῶ ὅτι λαός σου τὸ ἔθνος τὸ μέγα τοῦτο.	13 εἰ οὖν εὕρηκα χάριν ἐναντίον σου, ἐμφάνισόν μοι σεαυτὸν γνωστῶς, ἵνα ἴδω σε, ὅπως ἄν ὦ εὑρηκὼς χάριν ἐναντίον σου, καὶ ἵνα γνῶ ὅτι λαός σου τὸ ἔθνος τὸ μέγα τοῦτο.
13 If then I have found favour before you, reveal yourself to me. 14 And he said, “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.”

15 And he said to him, “If your presence don’t go with me, carry us not up hence.

15 καὶ λέγει πρὸς αὐτόν εἰ μὴ αὐτὸς σὺ πορεύῃ, μή με ἀναγάγῃς ἐντεῦθεν·	15 καὶ λέγει πρὸς αὐτόν· εἰ μὴ αὐτὸς σὺ συμπορεύῃ, μή με ἀναγάγῃς ἐντεῦθεν·

16 For in which shall it be known here that I and your people have found grace in your sight? Is it not in that you go with us? So shall we be separated, I and your people, from all the people that are on the face of the earth.”

16 καὶ πῶς γνωστὸν ἔσται ἀληθῶς ὅτι εὕρηκα χάριν παρὰ σοί, ἐγώ τε καὶ ὁ λαός σου, ἀλλ’ ἢ συμπορευομένου σου μεθ’ ἡμῶν; καὶ ἐνδοξασθήσομαι ἐγώ τε καὶ ὁ λαός σου παρὰ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη, ὅσα ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἐστιν.	16 καὶ πῶς γνωστὸν ἔσται ἀληθῶς, ὅτι εὕρηκα χάριν παρὰ σοί, ἐγώ τε καὶ ὁ λαός σου, ἀλλ’ ἢ συμπορευομένου σου μεθ’ ἡμῶν; καὶ ἐνδοξασθήσομαι ἐγώ τε καὶ ὁ λαός σου παρὰ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη, ὅσα ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς ἔστι.
16 And how shall it be truly known that I have found favour with you, both I and your people, other than if you go along with us? 17 And Yahweh said to Moses, “I will do this thing also that you have spoken; for you have found grace in my sight, and I know you by name.”

17 Then the Lord said to Moses, “And this word that you have spoken, I will do for you. 18 And he said, “I beseech you, show me your glory.”

19 And he said,“ I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of Yahweh before you; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.”

19 καὶ εἶπεν ἐγὼ παρελεύσομαι πρότερός σου τῇ δόξῃ μου καὶ καλέσω ἐπὶ τῷ ὀνόματί μου κύριος ἐναντίον σου· καὶ ἐλεήσω ὃν ἄν ἐλεῶ, καὶ οἰκτιρήσω ὃν ἄν οἰκτίρω.	19 καὶ εἶπε· ἐγὼ παρελεύσομαι πρότερός σου τῇ δόξῃ μου καὶ καλέσω τῷ ὀνόματί μου, Κύριος ἐναντίον σου· καὶ ἐλεήσω ὃν ἄν ἐλεῶ, καὶ οἰκτειρήσω ὃν ἄν οἰκτειρῶ.
19 And he said, “I will pass by in front of you in my glory, and I will call by my name, "Lord" before you. And I will have mercy on whomever I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I have compassion.”	19 And he said, “I will pass by in front of you in my glory, and I will call by my name, "Lord" before you. 20 And he said, “You cannot see my face; for there shall no man see me, and live.”

20 καὶ εἶπεν οὐ δυνήσῃ ἰδεῖν μου τὸ πρόσωπον· οὐ γὰρ μὴ ἴδῃ ἄνθρωπος τὸ πρόσωπόν μου καὶ ζήσεται.	20 καὶ εἶπε· οὐ δυνήσῃ ἰδεῖν τὸ πρόσωπόν μου· οὐ γὰρ μὴ ἴδῃ ἄνθρωπος τὸ πρόσωπόν μου καὶ ζήσεται.
20 And he said, “You shall not be able to see my face. For a man shall never see my face and live.”	20 And he said, “You shall not be able to see my face. For a man shall never see my face and live.”

21 And Yahweh said, “Behold, there is a place by me, and you shall stand on a rock.

21 And the Lord said, “Look! a place is near me. You shall stand on the rock.	21 And the Lord said, “Look! a place is near me. You shall stand on the rock.

22 And it will happen, while my glory passes by, that I will put you in a cliff of the rock, and will cover you with my hand while I pass by.

22 ἡνίκα δ’ ἄν παρέλθῃ μου ἡ δόξα, καὶ θήσω σὲ εἰς ὀπὴν τῆς πέτρας καὶ σκεπάσω τῇ χειρί μου ἐπὶ σέ, ἕως ἄν παρέλθω·	22 ἡνίκα δ’ ἄν παρέλθῃ ἡ δόξα μου, καὶ θήσω σε εἰς ὀπὴν τῆς πέτρας καὶ σκεπάσω τῇ χειρί μου ἐπὶ σέ, ἕως ἄν παρέλθω·

23 And I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back parts; but my face shall not be seen.”

23 καὶ ἀφελῶ τὴν χεῖρα, καὶ τότε ὄψῃ τὰ ὀπίσω μου, τὸ δὲ πρόσωπόν μου οὐκ ὀφθήσεταί σοι.	23 καὶ ἀφελῶ τὴν χεῖρα, καὶ τότε ὄψει τὰ ὀπίσω μου, τὸ δὲ πρόσωπόν μου οὐκ ὀφθήσεταί σοι.
