The Two Tablets Replaced

1 And Yahweh said to Moses, “Cut two tables of stone like the first; and I will write on these tables the words that were in the first tables, which you broke.

1 And the Lord said to Moses, “Cut two stone tablets for yourself, just like the first ones, and ascend to me onto the mountain, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets that you shattered, 1 And the Lord said to Moses, “Cut two stone tablets for yourself, just like the first ones, and ascend to me onto the mountain, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets that you shattered,

2 And be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning to mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me on the top of the mount.

2 and be prepared in the morning, and you shall come up on the Sina mountain, and shall stand there with me on the top of the mountain. 2 and be prepared in the morning, and you shall come up on the Sina mountain, and shall stand there with me on the top of the mountain.

3 And no man shall come up with you, neither let any man be seen throughout all the mount; neither let the flocks nor herds feed before that mount.”

3 And don’t let any one go up with you, nor be seen in all the mountain; and don’t let the sheep and cattle feed near that mountain.” 3 And don’t let any one go up with you, nor be seen in all the mountain; and don’t let the sheep and cattle feed near that mountain.”

4 And he cut two tables of stone like the first; and Moses rose up early in the morning, and went up to mount Sinai, as Yahweh had commanded him, and took in his hand the two tables of stone.

4 And he cut two stone tablets, just like the first ones. And when it was early in the morning, Moses went up onto the Sina mountain, just as the Lord instructed him. And Moses took with him the two stone tablets. 4 And he cut two stone tablets, just like the first ones. And when it was early in the morning, Moses went up onto the Sina mountain, just as the Lord instructed him. And Moses took with him the two stone tablets.

5 And Yahweh descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of Yahweh.

5 And the Lord descended in a cloud, and he stood beside him there, and he called on the name of the Lord. 5 And the Lord descended in a cloud, and he stood beside him there, and he called on the name of the Lord.

6 And Yahweh passed by before him, and proclaimed, “Yahweh, Yahweh Elohim, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,

6 And the Lord passed by before his face, and he called, “The Lord God is compassionate and merciful, patient and very merciful and truthful 6 And the Lord passed by before his face, and he called, “The Lord God is compassionate and merciful, patient and very merciful and truthful

7 keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the children’s children, to the third and to the fourth generation.”

7 and maintaining righteousness and doing mercy for thousands, taking away acts of lawlessness and of injustice and sins, and he will not acquit the guilty person, bringing lawless acts of fathers on children and on children of children, on the third and fourth generation.” 7 and maintaining righteousness and doing mercy for thousands, taking away acts of lawlessness and of injustice and sins, and he will not acquit the guilty person, bringing lawless acts of fathers on children and on children of children, on the third and fourth generation.”

8 And Moses hurried and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.

8 And when Moses hurried, he bowed on the ground, he did obeisance, 8 And when Moses hurried, he bowed on the ground, he did obeisance,

9 And he said, “If now I have found grace in your sight, Oh Adonai, let my Adonai, please, go among us; for it is a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.”

9 and said, “If I have found favour before you, let my Lord go together with us. For the people are stiff-necked, and you shall take away our sins and lawlessness, and we will be yours.” 9 and said, “If I have found favour before you, let my Lord go together with us. For the people are stiff-necked, and you shall take away our sins and lawlessness, and we will be yours.”

The Covenant Renewed

10 And he said, “Behold, I make a covenant: before all your people I will do marvels, such as haven’t been done in all the earth, nor in any nation; and all the people among which you are shall see the work of Yahweh; for it is a terrible thing that I will do with you.

10 And the Lord said to Moses, Look! I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I shall do glorious things that have not happened in all the land and in any nation. And all the people among whom you are will see the works of the Lord because the things that I will do for you are marvellous. 10 And the Lord said to Moses, Look! I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I shall do glorious things that have not happened in all the land and in any nation. And all the people among whom you are will see the works of the Lord because the things that I will do for you are marvellous.

11 Observe what I command you this day; behold, I drive out before you the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.

12 Be careful, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you go, lest it be for a snare in the midst of you.

12 Pay attention to yourself, lest you make a covenant with those inhabiting on the land that you are entering into, lest it become a stumbling block for you. 12 Pay attention to yourself, lest you make a covenant with those inhabiting on the land that you are entering into, lest it become a stumbling block for you.

13 But you shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves.

13 You shall tear down their altars, and shall smash their pillars, and cut down their groves, and you shall burn with fire the carved images of their gods. 13 You shall tear down their altars, and shall smash their pillars, and cut down their groves, and you shall burn with fire the carved images of their gods.

14 For you shall worship no other god; for Yahweh, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God El.

14 For you shall not do obeisance before another god. For the Lord God, a jealous name, is a jealous God, 14 For you shall not do obeisance before another god. For the Lord God, a jealous name, is a jealous God,

15 Lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they commit prostitution after their gods, and do sacrifice to their gods, and one call you, and you eat of his sacrifice;

15 lest you make a covenant with those foreigners inhabiting on the land and they commit fornication after their gods and they sacrifice to their gods and invite you and you should eat their sacrifices 15 lest you make a covenant with those foreigners inhabiting on the land and they commit fornication after their gods and they sacrifice to their gods and invite you and you should eat their sacrifices

16 And you take of their daughters for your sons, and their daughters commit prostitution after their gods, and make your sons commit prostitution after their gods.

16 and you should take from their daughters for your sons and from your daughters you should give to their sons and your daughters commit fornication after their gods and they lead your sons to commit fornication after their gods. 16 and you should take from their daughters for your sons and from your daughters you should give to their sons and your daughters commit fornication after their gods and they lead your sons to commit fornication after their gods.

17 You shall not make molten gods.

17 And you shall not make molten gods for yourself. 17 And you shall not make molten gods for yourself.

18 The feast of unleavened bread you shall keep. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, in the time of the month Abib; for in the month Abib you came out from Egypt.

20 But the firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you don’t redeem him, then you shall break its neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. And none shall appear before me empty.

20 And with a sheep, you shall redeem the firstborn of a beast of burden. Now if you don’t redeem it, you shall pay a price. Every firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. 22 And you shall observe the feast of weeks, of the firstfruits of wheat harvest, and the feast of ingathering at the year’s end.

22 And you shall make a feast of weeks for me during the beginning of the wheat harvest, and a feast of harvest in the middle of the year. 22 And you shall make a feast of weeks for me during the beginning of the wheat harvest, and a feast of harvest in the middle of the year.

23 Three times a year every male of yours shall appear before the Lord, the God of Israēl. 23 Three times a year every male of yours shall appear before the Lord, the God of Israēl.

24 For I will cast out the nations before you, and enlarge your borders: neither shall any man desire your land, when you shall go up to appear before Yahweh your Elohim thrice in the year.

27 And Yahweh said to Moses, “Write these words; for after the tenor of these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israēl.”

27 And the Lord said to Moses, Write for yourself these words. For on these words I have established a covenant with you and Israēl. 27 And the Lord said to Moses, “Write for yourself these words. For on these words I have established a covenant with you and Israēl.”

28 And he was there with Yahweh 40 days and 40 nights; he neither ate bread, nor drank water. And he wrote on the tables the words of the covenant, the ten commandments.

Moses’ Face Shines

29 And it happened, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses didn’t know that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.

29 And as Moses was descending from the mountain, the two tablets also were in the hands of Moses. Now while he was descending from the mountain, Moses didn’t know that the appearance of the skin colour of his face had been glorified while he was speaking to him. 29 And as Moses was descending from the mountain, the two tablets also were in the hands of Moses. Now while he was descending from the mountain, Moses didn’t know that the appearance of the skin colour of his face had been glorified while he was speaking to him.

30 And when Aaron and all the sons of Israēl saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone; and they were afraid to come near him.

30 And together with all the elders of Israēl, Aarōn saw Moses, and the appearance of the skin of his face had been glorified, and they were afraid to approach him. 30 And together with all the elders of Israēl, Aarōn saw Moses, and the appearance of the skin of his face had been glorified, and they were afraid to approach him.

31 And Moses called to them; and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation returned to him; and Moses talked with them.

31 And Moses called them, and turned to him (Aarōn together with all the rulers of the congregation), and Moses spoke to them. 31 And Moses called them, and turned to him (Aarōn together with all the rulers of the congregation), and Moses spoke to them.

32 Afterward, all the sons of Israēl came near; and he gave them in commandment all that Yahweh had spoken with him in mount Sinai.

32 And after these things, all the sons of Israēl went near to him, and he commanded them all the things that the Lord spoke to him on Sina mountain. 32 And after these things, all the sons of Israēl went near to him, and he commanded them all the things that the Lord spoke to him on Sina mountain.

33 And until Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil on his face.

33 And when he stopped speaking to them, he put on a covering over his face. 33 And when he stopped speaking to them, he put on a covering over his face.

34 But when Moses went in before Yahweh to speak with him, he took the veil off, until he came out. And he came out, and spoke to the sons of Israēl what he was commanded.

34 But whenever Moses would enter in before the Lord to speak with him, he would remove the covering until coming out. And when he came out, he would tell all the sons of Israēl what the Lord commanded him. 34 But whenever Moses would enter in before the Lord to speak with him, he would remove the covering until coming out. And when he came out, he would tell all the sons of Israēl what the Lord commanded him.

35 And the sons of Israēl saw the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone; and Moses put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with him.

35 And the sons of Israēl saw the face of Moses that it was glorified, and Moses put a covering over his face until he went in to talk with him. 35 And the sons of Israēl saw the face of Moses that it was glorified, and Moses put a covering over his face until he went in to talk with him.
