Isaiah

1 For Yahweh will have mercy on Jacōb, and will yet choose Israēl, and set them in their own land; and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cling to the house of Jacōb.

1 καὶ ἐλεήσει κύριος τὸν Ἰακὼβ καὶ ἐκλέξεται ἔτι τὸν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀναπαύσονται ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς αὐτῶν, καὶ ὁ γιώρας προστεθήσεται πρὸς αὐτοὺς καὶ προστεθήσεται πρὸς τὸν οἶκον Ἰακώβ,	1 Καὶ ἐλεήσει Κύριος τὸν Ἰακὼβ καὶ ἐκλέξεται ἔτι τὸν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀναπαύσονται ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς αὐτῶν, καὶ ὁ γειώρας προστεθήσεται πρὸς αὐτοὺς καὶ προστεθήσεται πρὸς τὸν οἶκον Ἰακώβ,

2 And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place; and the house of Israēl shall possess them in the land of Yahweh for servants and handmaids; and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.

3 And it will happen in the day that Yahweh shall give you rest from your sorrow, and from your fear, and from the hard bondage in which you were made to serve,

4 That you shall take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How has the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!

5 Yahweh has broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers.

6 He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he who ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hinders.

7 The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing.

9 Hell from beneath is moved for you to meet you at your coming: it stirs up the dead for you, even all the chief ones of the earth; it has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

10 All they shall speak and say to you, Are you also become weak as we? Are you become like to us?

11 Your pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of your viols: the worm is spread under you, and the worms cover you.

12 How are you fallen from heaven, Oh Lucifer, son of the morning! how are you cut down to the ground, which did weaken the nations!

13 For you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also on the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north.

15 Yet you shall be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

17 Who made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities of it; who opened not the house of his prisoners?

18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, everyone in his own house.

19 But you are cast out of your grave like an abominable branch, and as the clothing of those who are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcass trodden under feet.

19 σὺ δὲ ῥιφήσῃ ἐν τοῖς ὄρεσιν ὡς νεκρός ἐβδελυγμένος μετὰ πολλῶν τεθνηκότων ἐκκεκεντημένων μαχαίραις καταβαινόντων εἰς ᾅδου. ὃν τρόπον ἱμάτιον ἐν αἵματι πεφυρμένον οὐκ ἔσται καθαρόν,	19 σὺ δὲ ῥιφήσῃ ἐν τοῖς ὄρεσιν ὡς νεκρὸς ἐβδελυγμένος μετὰ πολλῶν τεθνηκότων ἐκκεκεντημένων μαχαίραις, καταβαινόντων εἰς ᾅδου. ὃν τρόπον ἱμάτιον ἐν αἵματι πεφυρμένον οὐκ ἔσται καθαρόν,
19 but you will be thrown out on the mountains like a detestable corpse, with many who have died, having been pierced with daggers, who go down into Hades. 20 You shall not be joined with them in burial, because you have destroyed your land, and slain your people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.

21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they don’t rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

22 For I will rise up against them, says Yahweh of armies, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, says Yahweh.

23 I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water; and I will s weep it with the besom of destruction, says Yahweh of armies.

24 Yahweh of armies has sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand.

25 That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and on my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.

25 τοῦ ἀπολέσαι τοὺς Ἀσσυρίους ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς τῆς ἐμῆς καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ὀρέων μου, καὶ ἔσονται εἰς καταπάτημα, καὶ ἀφαιρεθήσεται ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ὁ ζυγὸς αὐτῶν, καὶ τὸ κῦδος αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῶν ὤμων ἀφαιρεθήσεται.	25 τοῦ ἀπολέσαι τοὺς Ἀσσυρίους ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς τῆς ἐμῆς καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν ὀρέων μου, καὶ ἔσονται εἰς καταπάτημα, καὶ ἀφαιρεθήσεται ἀπ’ αὐτῶν ὁ ζυγὸς αὐτῶν, καὶ τὸ κῦδος αὐτῶν ἀπὸ τῶν ὤμων ἀφαιρεθήσεται.

26 This is the purpose that is purposed on the whole earth; and this is the hand that is stretched out on all the nations.

27 For Yahweh of armies has purposed, and who shall disannul it? And his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?

28 In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden.
