Warning against Partiality

My brothers, stop having partiality regarding your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. My brothers, stop having partiality regarding your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ.
For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and splendid clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in shabby clothes, For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and splendid clothes, and there also comes in a poor man in shabby clothes,
and you look with respect to the one who is wearing the splendid clothes, and say, “Sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man, “You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,” and you look with respect to the one who is wearing the splendid clothes, and say to him, “Sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man, “Stand over there, or sit down here by my footstool,”
2:4 οὐ διεκρίθητε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς καὶ ἐγένεσθε κριταὶ διαλογισμῶν πονηρῶν; 4 καὶ οὐ διεκρίθητε ἐν ἑαυτοῖς, καὶ ἐγένεσθε κριταὶ διαλογισμῶν πονηρῶν;
are you not differentiating among yourselves and have become judges of evil motives? are you not differentiating among yourselves and have become judges of evil motives?
2:7 οὐκ αὐτοὶ βλασφημοῦσιν τὸ καλὸν ὄνομα τὸ ἐπικληθὲν ἐφ᾿ ὑμᾶς; 7 οὐκ αὐτοὶ βλασφημοῦσι τὸ καλὸν ὄνομα τὸ ἐπικληθὲν ἐφ᾿ ὑμᾶς;
Don’t they blaspheme the good name by which you have been called? Don’t they blaspheme the good name by which you have been called?
If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the scripture, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself,”[1] you are doing well. If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the scripture, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself,”[1] you are doing well.
But if you show partiality, you are committing a sin and are convicted by the Torah as transgressors. But if you show partiality, you are committing a sin and are convicted by the Torah as transgressors.
For whoever keeps the whole Torah and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. For whoever keeps the whole Torah and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
For he who said, “Don’t commit adultery,”[2] also said, “Don’t commit murder.”[3] Now if you don’t commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the Torah. For he who said, “Don’t commit adultery,”[2] also said, “Don’t commit murder.”[3] Now if you don’t commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the Torah.
Thus speak and thus act as those who are about to be judged by the law of liberty. Thus speak and thus act as those who are about to be judged by the law of liberty.
For judgment will be merciless to one who is performing no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment. For judgment will be merciless to one who is performing no mercy; mercy triumphs over judgment.

Faith and Works

2:14 Τί τὸ ὄφελος, ἀδελφοί μου, ἐὰν πίστιν λέγῃ τις ἔχειν ἔργα δὲ μὴ ἔχῃ;
μὴ δύναται πίστις σῶσαι αὐτόν;
14 Τί τὸ ὄφελος, ἀδελφοί μου, ἐὰν πίστιν λέγῃ τις ἔχειν, ἔργα δὲ μὴ ἔχῃ;
μὴ δύναται πίστις σῶσαι αὐτόν;
What benefit is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Is that faith able to save him? What benefit is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but he has no works? Is that faith able to save him?
2:16 εἴπῃ δέ τις αὐτοῖς ἐξ ὑμῶν ὑπάγετε ἐν εἰρήνῃ, θερμαίνεσθε καὶ χορτάζεσθε, μὴ δῶτε δὲ αὐτοῖς τὰ ἐπιτήδεια τοῦ σώματος, τί τὸ ὄφελος; 16 εἴπῃ δέ τις αὐτοῖς ἐξ ὑμῶν, ὑπάγετε ἐν εἰρήνῃ, θερμαίνεσθε καὶ χορτάζεσθε, μὴ δῶτε δὲ αὐτοῖς τὰ ἐπιτήδεια τοῦ σώματος, τί τὸ ὄφελος;
and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be satisfied,” and yet you don’t give them what is necessary for their body, what benefit is that? and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be satisfied,” and yet you don’t give them what is necessary for their body, what benefit is that?
Thus even faith, if it doesn’t have works, is dead by itself. Thus even faith, if it doesn’t have works, is dead by itself.
But someone says, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” But someone says, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”
2:20 θέλεις δὲ γνῶναι, ἄνθρωπε κενέ, ὅτι πίστις χωρὶς τῶν ἔργων ἀργή ἐστιν; 20 θέλεις δὲ γνῶναι, ἄνθρωπε κενέ, ὅτι πίστις χωρὶς τῶν ἔργων νεκρά ἐστιν;
But do you want to know, you foolish person, that faith without works is useless? But do you want to know, you foolish person, that faith without works is dead?
2:22 βλέπεις ὅτι πίστις συνήργει τοῖς ἔργοις αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἔργων πίστις ἐτελειώθη, 22 βλέπεις ὅτι πίστις συνήργει τοῖς ἔργοις αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐκ τῶν ἔργων πίστις ἐτελειώθη;
You see that faith was co-working with his works, and out of the works, faith was perfected; You see that faith was co-working with his works, and out of the works, faith was perfected;
and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,”[4] and he was called the friend of God. and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness,”[4] and he was called the friend of God.
2:25 ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ Ῥαὰβ πόρνη οὐκ ἐξ ἔργων ἐδικαιώθη ὑποδεξαμένη τοὺς ἀγγέλους καὶ ἑτέρᾳ ὁδῷ ἐκβαλοῦσα; 25 ὁμοίως δὲ καὶ Ῥαὰβ πόρνη οὐκ ἐξ ἔργων ἐδικαιώθη, ὑποδεξαμένη τοὺς ἀγγέλους, καὶ ἑτέρᾳ ὁδῷ ἐκβαλοῦσα;
In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way?
