NASTextRec
After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bēthzatha, having five covered porches. Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bēthesda, having five covered porches.
In these reclined a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, waiting for the motion of the water. In these reclined a large multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, waiting for the motion of the water.
for an angel from time to time was washing in the pool and stirred the water; whoever entered first after the agitating of the water, then became healthy in whatever disease he possessed. for an angel of the Lord from time to time descended in the pool and stirred the water; whoever entered first after the agitating of the water, became healthy in whatever disease he possessed.
And a certain man was there having his illness for thirty-eight years. And a certain man was there having his illness for thirty-eight years.
5:6 τοῦτον ἰδὼν Ἰησοῦς κατακείμενον καὶ γνοὺς ὅτι πολὺν ἤδη χρόνον ἔχει, λέγει αὐτῷ, θέλεις ὑγιὴς γενέσθαι; 6 τοῦτον ἰδὼν Ἰησοῦς κατακείμενον, καὶ γνοὺς ὅτι πολὺν ἤδη χρόνον ἔχει, λέγει αὐτῷ, θέλεις ὑγιὴς γενέσθαι;
After seeing this one lying there and knowing that he had already been a long time in that state, Jesus said to him, “Do you want to become well?” After seeing this one lying there and knowing that he had already been a long time in that state, Jesus said to him, “Do you want to become well?”
The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no man that could put me into the pool when the water stirs, but while I am coming, another goes down before me.” The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no man that could put me into the pool when the water stirs, but while I am coming, another goes down before me.”
Jesus said to him, “Get up, pick up your pallet and walk.” Jesus said to him, “Get up, pick up your pallet and walk.”
Then the Jews were saying to the man who was cured, “It is the sabbath, and it is not permissible for you to carry your pallet.” Then the Jews were saying to the man who was cured, “It is the sabbath, and it is not permissible for you to carry a pallet.”
But he answered them, “The one who made me well, that one said to me, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk.’” He answered them, “The one who made me well, that one said to me, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk.’”
5:12 ἠρώτησαν αὐτόν, τίς ἐστιν ἄνθρωπος εἰπών σοι, ἆρον καὶ περιπάτει; 12 ἠρώτησαν οὖν αὐτόν, τίς ἐστιν ἄνθρωπος εἰπών σοι, ἆρον τὸν κράββατόν σου, καὶ περιπάτει;
They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up and walk’?” Then they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk’?”
But the one who was healed didn’t know who he was, for Jesus withdrew while a crowd was in that place. But the one who was healed didn’t know who he was, for Jesus withdrew while a crowd was in that place.
After these things, Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “Look, you have become well; don’t sin anymore, lest something worse happens to you.” After these things, Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “Look, you have become well; don’t sin anymore, lest something worse happens to you.”
And because of this the Jews began persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on a sabbath. And because of this the Jews began persecuting Jesus and seeking to kill him, because he was doing these things on a sabbath.
But [Jesus] answered them, “Until now, my Father is working, and I myself am working.” But Jesus answered them, “Until now, my Father is working, and I myself am working.”
Because of this, therefore, the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because he not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was saying God was his own Father, making himself equal with God. Because of this, therefore, the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because he not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was saying God was his own Father, making himself equal with God.
Then Jesus answered and began saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the son can do nothing by himself, unless it is something he sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does likewise. Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the son can do nothing by himself, unless it is something he sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does likewise.
For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that he himself is doing; and he will show him greater works than these, so that you may marvel. For the Father loves the Son, and shows him all things that he himself is doing; and he will show him greater works than these, so that you may marvel.
For just as the Father raises the dead and makes alive, even so the Son also makes alive those whom he wants. For just as the Father raises the dead and makes alive, even so the Son also makes alive those whom he wants.
For the Father judges no one, but he has given all judgment to the Son, For the Father judges no one, but he has given all judgment to the Son,
so that all may honour the Son even as they honour the Father. He who doesn’t honour the Son doesn’t honour the Father who sent him. so that all may honour the Son even as they honour the Father. He who doesn’t honour the Son doesn’t honour the Father who sent him.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, that the one who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and doesn’t come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life. “Truly, truly, I say to you, that the one who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and doesn’t come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.
Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.
For just as the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself; For just as the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself;
and he gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man. and he gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.
Stop being amazed at this because an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voice, Stop being amazed at this because an hour is coming, in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voice,
and will come forth; those who did the good things to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil things to a resurrection of judgment. and will come forth; those who did the good things to a resurrection of life, those who committed the evil things to a resurrection of judgment.
“I am not able to anything on my own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I don’t seek my own will, but the will of the one who sent me. “I am not able to anything on my own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and my judgment is just, because I don’t seek my own will, but the will of the Father who sent me.
“If I alone testify about myself, my testimony is not true. “If I alone testify about myself, my testimony is not true.
There is another who testifies concerning me, and I know that the testimony which he testifies concerning me is true. There is another who testifies concerning me, and I know that the testimony which he testifies concerning me is true.
But I don’t receive the testimony from a man, but I say these things so that you may be saved. But I don’t receive the testimony from a man, but I say these things so that you may be saved.
That was the lamp that was burning and shining, and you were willing to rejoice for an hour in his light. That was the lamp that was burning and shining, and you were willing to rejoice for an hour in his light.
But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of Jōhn; for the works which the Father has given me, these very works are what I do. They testify about me, that the Father has sent me. But the testimony which I have is greater than the testimony of Jōhn; for the works which the Father has given me, these very works are what I do. They testify about me, that the Father has sent me.
And the Father who sent me has testified concerning me. You have neither heard his voice at any time nor seen his form. And the Father who sent me has testified concerning me. You have neither heard his voice at any time nor seen his form.
You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are the ones that testify concerning me; You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are the ones that testify concerning me;
and you are unwilling to come to me so that you may have life. and you are unwilling to come to me so that you may have life.
I don’t receive glory from people; I don’t receive glory from people;
but I know you, that you don’t have the love of God in yourselves. but I know you, that you don’t have the love of God in yourselves.
I have come in my Father’s name, and you don’t receive me; if another comes in his own name, that one you will receive. I have come in my Father’s name, and you don’t receive me; if another comes in his own name, that one you will receive.
5:44 πῶς δύνασθε ὑμεῖς πιστεῦσαι δόξαν παρὰ ἀλλήλων λαμβάνοντες, καὶ τὴν δόξαν τὴν παρὰ τοῦ μόνου θεοῦ οὐ ζητεῖτε; 44 πῶς δύνασθε ὑμεῖς πιστεῦσαι, δόξαν παρὰ ἀλλήλων λαμβάνοντες, καὶ τὴν δόξαν τὴν παρὰ τοῦ μόνου θεοῦ οὐ ζητεῖτε;
How are you able to believe, when you receive glory from one another and you don’t seek the glory that is from God only? How are you able to believe, when you receive glory from one another and you don’t seek the glory that is from God only?
Stop thinking that I will accuse you to the Father; the one who accuses you is Mōsēs, in whom you hope. Stop thinking that I will accuse you to the Father; the one who accuses you is Mōsēs, in whom you hope.
For if you believed Mōsēs, you would believe me, for that one wrote concerning me. For if you believed Mōsēs, you would believe me, for that one wrote concerning me.
