1 And Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aarōn in Aigypt’s land, saying, | 1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses and Aarōn in Aigypt’s land, saying, |
2 “This month shall be to you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
2 For you, this month shall be the beginning of months; for you, it is first among the months of the year. | 2 For you, this month shall be the beginning of months; for you, it is first among the months of the year. |
3 Speak to all the congregation of Israēl, saying, ‘In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for a house.
3 Speak to the whole congregation of the sons of Israēl, saying, “On the tenth of this month, let them each take a sheep according to the paternal houses, a sheep for each household. | 3 Speak to the whole congregation of the sons of Israēl, saying, “On the tenth of this month, let them each take a sheep according to the paternal houses, a sheep for each household. |
4 And if the household is too few for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next to his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
4 But if those in the household are too few so that they are not enough for a sheep, he shall join himself with his nearby neighbor according to the number of souls; each one shall number together what is sufficient for a sheep. | 4 But if those in the household are too few so that they are not enough for a sheep, he shall join himself with his nearby neighbor according to the number of souls; each one shall number together what is sufficient for a sheep. |
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: you shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats.
5 You shall have a perfect sheep, a male yearling. You shall take from the lambs and kids. | 5 You shall have a perfect sheep, a male yearling. You shall take from the lambs and kids. |
6 And you shall keep it up until the 14th day of the same month; and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israēl shall kill it in the evening.
6 And it shall be kept for you until the 14th of this month, and all the multitude of the congregation of the sons of Israēl shall slaughter it toward evening. | 6 And it shall be kept for you until the 14th of this month, and all the multitude of the congregation of the sons of Israēl shall slaughter it toward evening. |
7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, in which they shall eat it.
7 And they shall take some of the blood and shall put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel in the homes whichever they eat them in. | 7 And they shall take some of the blood and shall put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel in the homes whichever they eat them in. |
8 And they shall eat the meat in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
8 And they shall eat the meat this night, roasted in fire, and they shall eat unleavened bread with bitter herbs. | 8 And they shall eat the meat this night, roasted in fire, and they shall eat unleavened bread with bitter herbs. |
9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the entrails of it.
9 You shall not eat from it raw or boiled in water but rather roasted in fire, head with the feet and inner organs. | 9 You shall not eat from it raw or boiled in water but rather roasted in fire, head with the feet and inner organs. |
10 And you shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and what remains of it until the morning you shall burn with fire.
10 You shall not leave any of it until morning, and you shall not break a bone of it. But that which remains from it until morning, you shall burn with fire. | 10 You shall not leave any of it until morning, and you shall not break a bone of it. But that which remains from it until morning, you shall burn with fire. |
11 And thus you shall eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste: it is Yahweh’s passover.
11 Now you shall eat it thus: your loins girded and your sandals on your feet and your staves in your hands. And you shall eat it with haste–it is the Lord’s passover. | 11 Now you shall eat it thus: your loins girded and your sandals on your feet and your staves in your hands. And you shall eat it with haste–it is the Lord’s passover. |
12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am Yahweh.

I am the Lord. | 12 And on this night, I will go about Aigypt’s land, and I will strike every firstborn in Aigypt’s land, from man to animal, and on all the gods of the Aigyptians I will execute vengeance. I am the Lord. |
13 And the blood shall be to you for a token on the houses where you are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
13 And for you, the blood shall be there as a sign on the homes in which you are; and I will see the blood, and I will protect you, and there shall not be a plague among you to destroy, whenever I strike in Aigypt’s land. | 13 And for you, the blood shall be there as a sign on the homes in which you are; and I will see the blood, and I will protect you, and there shall not be a plague among you to destroy, whenever I strike in Aigypt’s land. |

20 You shall not eat anything leavened; in every habitation of yours you shall eat unleavened bread.” | 20 You shall not eat anything leavened; in every habitation of yours you shall eat unleavened bread.” |
21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israēl, and said to them, “Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the Passover.
21 Then Moses summoned the entire council of elders of Israēl and said to them, “After you go away, take a sheep for yourselves according to your families and sacrifice the Passover. | 21 Then Moses summoned the entire council of elders of Israēl and said to them, “After you go away, take a sheep for yourselves according to your families and sacrifice the Passover. |
22 And you shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.

A Memorial of Redemption
23 For Yahweh will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he sees the blood on the lintel, and on the two side posts, Yahweh will pass over the door, and won’t suffer the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you.
23 And the Lord will pass by to strike the Aigyptians, and he will see the blood on the lintel and on both doorposts, and the Lord will pass by the door, and he will not allow the destroyer to enter into your homes to strike. | 23 And the Lord will pass by to strike the Aigyptians, and he will see the blood on the lintel and on both doorposts, and the Lord will pass by the door, and he will not allow the destroyer to enter into your homes to strike. |
24 And you shall observe this thing for an ordinance to you and to your sons forever.
24 And you shall keep this matter as a precept for yourself and your sons forever. | 24 And you shall keep this matter as a precept for yourself and your sons forever. |
25 And it will happen, when you come to the land which Yahweh will give you, according as he has promised, that you shall keep this service.
25 Now when you come into the land which the Lord gives you, according as he said, you shall keep this service. | 25 Now when you come into the land which the Lord gives you, according as he said, you shall keep this service. |
26 And it will happen, when your children shall say to you, ‘What mean you by this service?’
26 And it shall be if your sons shall say to you, ‛What is this service?’ | 26 And it shall be if your sons shall say to you, ‛What is this service?’ |
27 That you shall say, ‘It is the sacrifice of Yahweh’s passover, who passed over the houses of the sons of Israēl in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses.’ ” And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
