1 And the Ziphites came to Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doesn’t David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?

1 καὶ ἔρχονται οἱ Ζιφαῖοι ἐκ τῆς αὐχμώδους πρὸς τὸν Σαοὺλ εἰς τὸν βουνὸν λέγοντες ἰδοὺ Δαυὶδ σκεπάζεται μεθ’ ἡμῶν ἐν τῷ βουνῷ τοῦ Ἐχελὰ τοῦ κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ Ἰεσσαιμούν.	1 Καὶ ἔρχονται οἱ Ζιφαῖοι ἐκ τῆς αὐχμώδους πρὸς τὸν Σαοὺλ εἰς τὸν βουνὸν λέγοντες· ἰδοὺ Δαυὶδ σκεπάζεται μεθ’ ἡμῶν ἐν τῷ βουνῷ τοῦ Ἐχελὰ τοῦ κατὰ πρόσωπον τοῦ Ἰεσσαιμοῦν.

10 David said furthermore, As Yahweh lives, Yahweh shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.

12 So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul’s bolster; and they got them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked; for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from Yahweh was fallen on them.

13 Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of a hill afar off; a great space being between them.

14 And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Don’t you answer, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who are you who cry to the king?

14 And David called to the people, and he spoke to Abennēr, saying, “Abennēr! 15 And David said to Abner, Art not you a valiant man? And who is like to you in Israēl? therefore then you haven’t kept your lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king your lord.

15 And David said to Abennēr, “Are you not a man? And who is like you in Israēl? And why don't you guard your master the king? 16 This thing is not good that you have done. As Yahweh lives, you are worthy to die, because you haven’t kept your master, Yahweh’s anointed. And now see where the king’s spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.

16 καὶ οὐκ ἀγαθὸν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο, ὃ πεποίηκας· ζῇ κύριος, ὅτι υἱοὶ θανατώσεως ὑμεῖς οἱ φυλάσσοντες τὸν βασιλέα κύριον ὑμῶν τὸν χριστὸν κυρίου. καὶ νῦν ἰδὲ δή· τὸ δόρυ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ὁ φακὸς τοῦ ὕδατος ποῦ ἐστιν τὰ πρὸς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ;	16 καὶ οὐκ ἀγαθὸν τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο, ὃν πεποίηκας· ζῇ Κύριος, ὅτι υἱοὶ θανατώσεως ὑμεῖς οἱ φυλάσσοντες τὸν βασιλέα τὸν κύριον ὑμῶν τὸν χριστὸν Κυρίου. καὶ νῦν ἰδὲ δή· τὸ δόρυ τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ ὁ φακὸς τοῦ ὕδατος ποῦ ἔστι τὰ πρὸς κεφαλῆς αὐτοῦ;
16 And this thing that you have done is not good. The Lord lives, because you are sons of execution who guard our master the king, the Lord’s anointed. And now please look! 17 And Saul knew David’s voice, and said, Is this your voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, Oh king.

18 And he said, Why does my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in my hand?

18 καὶ εἶπεν ἵνα τί τοῦτο καταδιώκει ὁ κύριός μου ὀπίσω τοῦ δούλου αὐτοῦ; ὅτι τί ἡμάρτηκα καὶ τί εὑρέθη ἐν ἐμοὶ ἀδίκημα;	18 καὶ εἶπε· ἱνατί τοῦτο καταδιώκει ὁ κύριος ὀπίσω τοῦ δούλου αὐτοῦ; ὅτι τί ἡμάρτηκα καὶ τί εὑρέθη ἐν ἐμοὶ ἀδίκημα;

19 Now therefore, please, let my master the king hear the words of his servant. If Yahweh have stirred you up against me, let him accept an offering; but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before Yahweh; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of Yahweh, saying, Go, serve other gods.

19 καὶ νῦν ἀκουσάτω δὴ ὁ κύριός μου ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦ δούλου αὐτοῦ· εἰ ὁ θεὸς ἐπισείει σὲ ἐπ’ ἐμέ, ὀσφρανθείη θυσίας σου· καὶ εἰ υἱοὶ ἀνθρώπων, ἐπικατάρατοι οὗτοι ἐνώπιον κυρίου, ὅτι ἐξέβαλόν με σήμερον μὴ ἐστηρίσθαι ἐν κληρονομίᾳ κυρίου λέγοντες πορεύου δούλευε θεοῖς ἑτέροις.	19 καὶ νῦν ἀκουσάτω ὁ κύριός μου ὁ βασιλεὺς τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦ δούλου αὐτοῦ· εἰ ὁ Θεὸς ἐπισείει σε ἐπ’ ἐμέ, ὀσφρανθείη θυσίας σου· καὶ εἰ υἱοὶ ἀνθρώπων, ἐπικατάρατοι οὗτοι ἐνώπιον Κυρίου, ὅτι ἐξέβαλόν με σήμερον μὴ ἐστηρίχθαι ἐν κληρονομίᾳ Κυρίου λέγοντες· πορεύου, δούλευε θεοῖς ἑτέροις.

20 Now therefore, don’t let my blood fall to the earth before the face of Yahweh; for the king of Israēl is come out to seek a flea, as when one hunts a partridge in the mountains.

21 Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David; for I will no more do you harm, because my soul was precious in your eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.

23 Yahweh render to every man his righteousness and his faithfullness; for Yahweh delivered you into my hand today, but I would not stretch forth my hand against Yahweh’s anointed.

23 καὶ κύριος ἐπιστρέψει ἑκάστῳ τὰς δικαιοσύνας αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν πίστιν αὐτοῦ, ὡς παρέδωκέν σὲ κύριος σήμερον εἰς χεῖράς μου καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησα ἐπενεγκεῖν χεῖρά μου ἐπὶ χριστὸν κυρίου·	23 καὶ Κύριος ἐπιστρέψει ἑκάστῳ κατὰ τὰς δικαιοσύνας αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν πίστιν αὐτοῦ, ὡς παρέδωκέ σε Κύριος σήμερον εἰς χεῖράς μου καὶ οὐκ ἠθέλησα ἐπενεγκεῖν χεῖρά μου ἐπὶ χριστὸν Κυρίου·

24 And, behold, as your life was much set by this day in my eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of Yahweh, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.

24 καὶ ἰδοὺ καθὼς ἐμεγαλύνθη ἡ ψυχή σου σήμερον ἐν ταύτῃ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς μου, οὕτως μεγαλυνθείη ἡ ψυχή μου ἐνώπιον κυρίου καὶ σκεπάσαι με καὶ ἐξελεῖταί με ἐκ πάσης θλίψεως.	24 καὶ ἰδοὺ καθὼς ἐμεγαλύνθη ἡ ψυχή σου σήμερον ἐν ταύτῃ ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς μου, οὕτως μεγαλυνθείη ἡ ψυχή μου ἐνώπιον Κυρίου καὶ σκεπάσαι με καὶ ἐξελεῖταί με ἐκ πάσης θλίψεως.

25 Then Saul said to David, Blessed be you, my son David: you shall both do great things, and also shall still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
