I Kings

1 And when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of Yahweh, she came to prove him with hard questions.

וּמַלְכַּת ־ שְׁבָא שֹׁמַעַת אֶת ־ שֵׁמַע שְׁלֹמֹה לְשֵׁם יְהוָה וַתָּבֹא לְנַסֹּתֹו בְּחִידֹות׃

2 And she came to Jerusalem with a very great train, with camels that carried spices, and very much gold, and precious stones; and when she came to Solomon, she communed with him of all that was in her heart.

וַתָּבֹא יְרוּשָׁלֲמָה בְּחַיִל כָּבֵד מְאֹד גְּמַלִּים נֹשְׂאִים בְּשָׂמִים וְזָהָב רַב ־ מְאֹד וְאֶבֶן יְקָרָה וַתָּבֹא אֶל ־ שְׁלֹמֹה וַתְּדַבֵּר אֵלָיו אֵת כָּל ־ אֲשֶׁר הָיָה עִם ־ לְבָבָהּ׃

3 And Solomon told her all her questions: there wasn’t anything hid from the king, which he told her not.

וַיַּגֶּד ־ לָהּ שְׁלֹמֹה אֶת ־ כָּל ־ דְּבָרֶיהָ לֹא ־ הָיָה דָּבָר נֶעְלָם מִן ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ אֲשֶׁר לֹא הִגִּיד לָהּ׃

3 καὶ ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτῇ Σαλωμὼν πάντας τοὺς λόγους αὐτῆς· οὐκ ἦν λόγος παρεωραμένος παρὰ τοῦ βασιλέως, ὃν οὐκ ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτῇ.	3 καὶ ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτῇ Σαλωμὼν πάντας τοὺς λόγους αὐτῆς· οὐκ ἦν λόγος παρεωραμένος παρὰ τοῦ βασιλέως, ὃν οὐκ ἀπήγγειλεν αὐτῇ.

4 And when the queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon’s wisdom, and the house that he had built,

וַתֵּרֶא מַלְכַּת ־ שְׁבָא אֵת כָּל ־ חָכְמַת שְׁלֹמֹה וְהַבַּיִת אֲשֶׁר בָּנָה׃

5 And the food of his table, and the sitting of his servants, and the attendance of his ministers, and their apparel, and his cupbearers, and his ascent by which he went up to the house of Yahweh; there was no more spirit in her.

וּמַאֲכַל שֻׁלְחָנֹו וּמֹושַׁב עֲבָדָיו וּמַעֲמַד מְשָׁרְתֹו וּמַלְבֻּשֵׁיהֶם וּמַשְׁקָיו וְעֹלָתֹו אֲשֶׁר יַעֲלֶה בֵּית יְהוָה וְלֹא ־ הָיָה בָהּ עֹוד רוּחַ׃

5 καὶ τὰ βρώματα Σαλωμὼν καὶ τὴν καθέδραν παίδων αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν στάσιν λειτουργῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸν ἱματισμὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς οἰνοχόους αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν ὁλοκαύτωσιν αὐτοῦ, ἣν ἀνέφερεν ἐν οἴκῳ κυρίου, καὶ ἐξ ἑαυτῆς ἐγένετο.	5 καὶ τὰ βρώματα Σαλωμὼν καὶ τὴν καθέδραν παίδων αὐτοῦ καὶ τὴν στάσιν λειτουργῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ τὸν ἱματισμὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ τοὺς οἰνοχόους αὐτοῦ, καὶ τὴν ὁλοκαύτωσιν αὐτοῦ, ἣν ἀνέφερεν ἐν οἴκῳ Κυρίου, καὶ ἐξ ἑαυτῆς ἐγένετο.

6 And she said to the king, It was a true report that I heard in my own land of your acts and of your wisdom.

וַתֹּאמֶר אֶל ־ הַמֶּלֶךְ אֱמֶת הָיָה הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר שָׁמַעְתִּי בְּאַרְצִי עַל ־ דְּבָרֶיךָ וְעַל ־ חָכְמָתֶךָ׃

7 However I didn’t believe the words, until I came, and my eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half wasn’t told me: your wisdom and prosperity exceeds the fame which I heard.

וְלֹא ־ הֶאֱמַנְתִּי לַדְּבָרִים עַד אֲשֶׁר ־ בָּאתִי וַתִּרְאֶינָה עֵינַי וְהִנֵּה לֹא ־ הֻגַּד ־ לִי הַחֵצִי הֹוסַפְתָּ חָכְמָה וָטֹוב אֶל ־ הַשְּׁמוּעָה אֲשֶׁר שָׁמָעְתִּי׃

7 καὶ οὐκ ἐπίστευσα τοῖς λαλοῦσίν μοι, ἕως ὅτου παρεγενόμην καὶ ἑωράκασιν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου, καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐκ ἔστιν τὸ ἥμισυ καθὼς ἀπήγγειλάν μοι, προστέθεικας ἀγαθὰ πρὸς αὐτὰ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν ἀκοήν, ἣν ἤκουσα ἐν τῇ γῇ μου·	7 καὶ οὐκ ἐπίστευσα τοῖς λαλοῦσί μοι, ἕως ὅτου παρεγενόμην καὶ ἑωράκασιν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου, καὶ ἰδοὺ οὐκ εἰσὶ τὸ ἥμισυ καθὼς ἀπήγγειλάν μοι· προστέθεικας ἀγαθὰ πρὸς αὐτὰ ἐπὶ πᾶσαν τὴν ἀκοήν, ἣν ἤκουσα ἐν τῇ γῇ μου·

8 Happy are your men, happy are these your servants, which stand continually before you, and that hear your wisdom.

אַשְׁרֵי אֲנָשֶׁיךָ אַשְׁרֵי עֲבָדֶיךָ אֵלֶּה הָעֹמְדִים לְפָנֶיךָ תָּמִיד הַשֹּׁמְעִים אֶת ־ חָכְמָתֶךָ׃

8 μακάριαι αἱ γυναῖκές σου, μακάριοι οἱ παῖδές σου οὗτοι οἱ παρεστηκότες ἐνώπιόν σου δι’ ὅλου οἱ ἀκούοντες πᾶσαν τὴν φρόνησίν σου·	8 μακάριαι αἱ γυναῖκές σου, μακάριοι οἱ παῖδές σου οὗτοι οἱ παρεστηκότες ἐνώπιόν σου διόλου, οἱ ἀκούοντες πᾶσαν τὴν φρόνησίν σου·

9 Blessed be Yahweh your Elohim, which delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israēl: because Yahweh loved Israēl forever, therefore made he you king, to do judgment and justice.

יְהִי יְהוָה אֱלֹהֶיךָ בָּרוּךְ אֲשֶׁר חָפֵץ בְּךָ לְתִתְּךָ עַל ־ כִּסֵּא יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּאַהֲבַת יְהוָה אֶת ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל לְעֹלָם וַיְשִׂימְךָ לְמֶלֶךְ לַעֲשֹׂות מִשְׁפָּט וּצְדָקָה׃

9 γένοιτο κύριος ὁ θεός σου εὐλογημένος, ὃς ἠθέλησεν ἐν σοί δοῦναί σὲ ἐπὶ θρόνου Ἰσραήλ· διὰ τὸ ἀγαπᾶν κύριον τὸν Ἰσραὴλ στῆσαι εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα καὶ ἔθετό σὲ βασιλέα ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς τοῦ ποιεῖν κρίμα ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ ἐν κρίμασιν αὐτῶν.	9 γένοιτο Κύριος ὁ Θεός σου εὐλογημένος, ὃς ἠθέλησεν ἐν σοί δοῦναί σε ἐπὶ θρόνον Ἰσραήλ· διὰ τὸ ἀγαπᾶν Κύριον τὸν Ἰσραὴλ στῆσαι εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα καὶ ἔθετό σε βασιλέα ἐπ’ αὐτοὺς τοῦ ποιεῖν κρίμα ἐν δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ ἐν κρίμασιν αὐτῶν.

10 And she gave the king 100 and 20 talents of gold, and of spices very great store, and precious stones: there came no more such abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.

וַתִּתֵּן לַמֶּלֶךְ מֵאָה וְעֶשְׂרִים כִּכַּר זָהָב וּבְשָׂמִים הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד וְאֶבֶן יְקָרָה לֹא ־ בָא כַבֹּשֶׂם הַהוּא עֹוד לָרֹב אֲשֶׁר ־ נָתְנָה מַלְכַּת ־ שְׁבָא לַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה׃

10 καὶ ἔδωκεν τῷ Σαλωμὼν ἑκατὸν εἴκοσι τάλαντα χρυσίου καὶ ἡδύσματα πολλὰ σφόδρα καὶ λίθον τίμιον· οὐκ ἐληλύθει κατὰ τὰ ἡδύσματα ἐκεῖνα ἔτι εἰς πλῆθος, ἃ ἔδωκεν βασίλισσα Σαβὰ τῷ βασιλεῖ Σαλωμών.	10 καὶ ἔδωκε τῷ Σαλωμὼν ἑκατὸν εἴκοσι τάλαντα χρυσίου καὶ ἡδύσματα πολλὰ σφόδρα καὶ λίθον τίμιον· οὐκ ἐληλύθει κατὰ τὰ ἡδύσματα ἐκεῖνα ἔτι εἰς πλῆθος, ἃ ἔδωκε βασίλισσα Σαβὰ τῷ βασιλεῖ Σαλωμών.

11 And the navy also of Hiram, that brought gold from Ophir, brought in from Ophir great plenty of almug trees, and precious stones.

וְגַם אֳנִי חִירָם אֲשֶׁר ־ נָשָׂא זָהָב מֵאֹופִיר הֵבִיא מֵאֹפִיר עֲצֵי אַלְמֻגִּים הַרְבֵּה מְאֹד וְאֶבֶן יְקָרָה׃

11 καὶ ἡ ναῦς Χιρὰμ ἡ αἴρουσα τὸ χρυσίον ἐκ Σουφὶιρ ἤνεγκεν ξύλα ἀπελέκητα πολλὰ σφόδρα καὶ λίθον τίμιον·	11 (καὶ ἡ ναῦς Χιρὰμ ἡ αἴρουσα τὸ χρυσίον ἐκ Σουφὶρ ἤνεγκε ξύλα πελεκητὰ πολλὰ σφόδρα καὶ λίθον τίμιον·

12 And the king made of the almug trees pillars for the house of Yahweh, and for the king’s house, harps also and psalteries for singers: there came no such almug trees, nor were seen to this day.

וַיַּעַשׂ הַמֶּלֶךְ אֶת ־ עֲצֵי הָאַלְמֻגִּים מִסְעָד לְבֵית ־ יְהוָה וּלְבֵית הַמֶּלֶךְ וְכִנֹּרֹות וּנְבָלִים לַשָּׁרִים לֹא בָא ־ כֵן עֲצֵי אַלְמֻגִּים וְלֹא נִרְאָה עַד הַיֹּום הַזֶּה׃

12 καὶ ἐποίησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὰ ξύλα τὰ ἀπελέκητα ὑποστηρίγματα τοῦ οἴκου κυρίου καὶ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ νάβλας καὶ κινύρας τοῖς ᾠδοῖς· οὐκ ἐληλύθει τοιαῦτα ξύλα ἀπελέκητα ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς οὐδὲ ὤφθησάν που ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης.	12 καὶ ἐποίησεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τὰ ξύλα τὰ πελεκητὰ ὑποστηρίγματα τοῦ οἴκου Κυρίου καὶ τοῦ οἴκου τοῦ βασιλέως καὶ νάβλας καὶ κινύρας τοῖς ᾠδοῖς· οὐκ ἐληλύθει τοιαῦτα ξύλα ἀπελέκητα ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς, οὐδὲ ὤφθησάν που ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης).

13 And king Solomon gave to the queen of Sheba all her desire, whatever she asked, beside what Solomon gave her of his royal bounty. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants.

וְהַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה נָתַן לְמַלְכַּת ־ שְׁבָא אֶת ־ כָּל ־ חֶפְצָהּ אֲשֶׁר שָׁאָלָה מִלְּבַד אֲשֶׁר נָתַן ־ לָהּ כְּיַד הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה וַתֵּפֶן וַתֵּלֶךְ לְאַרְצָהּ הִיא וַעֲבָדֶיהָ׃ ס

13 καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν ἔδωκεν τῇ βασιλίσσῃ Σαβὰ πάντα, ὅσα ἠθέλησεν, ὅσα ᾐτήσατο, ἐκτὸς πάντων, ὧν δεδώκει αὐτῇ διὰ χειρὸς τοῦ βασιλέως Σαλωμών· καὶ ἀπεστράφη καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς τὴν γῆν αὐτῆς, αὐτὴ καὶ πάντες οἱ παῖδες αὐτῆς.	13 καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Σαλωμὼν ἔδωκε τῇ βασιλίσσῃ Σαβὰ πάντας, ὅσα ἠθέλησεν, ὅσα ᾐτήσατο, ἐκτὸς πάντων ὧν ἐδεδώκει αὐτῇ διὰ χειρὸς τοῦ βασιλέως Σαλωμών· καὶ ἀπεστράφη καὶ ἦλθεν εἰς τὴν γῆν αὐτῆς, αὐτὴ καὶ πάντες οἱ παῖδες αὐτῆς.

14 Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was 666 talents of gold.

וַיְהִי מִשְׁקַל הַזָּהָב אֲשֶׁר ־ בָּא לִשְׁלֹמֹה בְּשָׁנָה אֶחָת שֵׁשׁ מֵאֹות שִׁשִּׁים וָשֵׁשׁ כִּכַּר זָהָב׃

14 καὶ ἦν ὁ σταθμὸς τοῦ χρυσίου τοῦ ἐληλυθότος τῷ Σαλωμὼν ἐν ἐνιαυτῷ ἑνὶ ἑξακόσια καὶ ἑξήκοντα ἓξ τάλαντα χρυσίου	14 Καὶ ἦν ὁ σταθμὸς τοῦ χρυσίου τοῦ ἐληλυθότος τῷ Σαλωμὼν ἐν ἐνιαυτῷ ἑνὶ ἑξακόσια καὶ ἑξηκονταὲξ τάλαντα χρυσίου,

15 Beside that he had of the merchantmen, and of the trade of the spice merchants, and of all the kings of Arabia, and of the governors of the country.

לְבַד מֵאַנְשֵׁי הַתָּרִים וּמִסְחַר הָרֹכְלִים וְכָל ־ מַלְכֵי הָעֶרֶב וּפַחֹות הָאָרֶץ׃

16 And king Solomon made 200 targets of beaten gold: 600 shekels of gold went to one target.

וַיַּעַשׂ הַמֶּלֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה מָאתַיִם צִנָּה זָהָב שָׁחוּט שֵׁשׁ ־ מֵאֹות זָהָב יַעֲלֶה עַל ־ הַצִּנָּה הָאֶחָת׃

16 καὶ ἐποίησεν Σαλωμὼν τριακόσια δόρατα χρυσᾶ ἔλατά τριακόσιοι χρυσοῖ ἐπῆσαν ἐπὶ τὸ δόρυ τὸ ἕν	16 καὶ ἐποίησε Σαλωμὼν τριακόσια δόρατα χρυσᾶ ἔλατά. — τριακόσιοι χρυσοῖ ἐπῆσαν ἐπὶ τὸ δόρυ τὸ ἓν —

17 And he made 300 shields of beaten gold; three pound of gold went to one shield; and the king put them in the house of the forest of Lebanon.

וּשְׁלֹשׁ ־ מֵאֹות מָגִנִּים זָהָב שָׁחוּט שְׁלֹשֶׁת מָנִים זָהָב יַעֲלֶה עַל ־ הַמָּגֵן הָאֶחָת וַיִּתְּנֵם הַמֶּלֶךְ בֵּית יַעַר הַלְּבָנֹון׃ פ
