Joshua

1 But the sons of Israēl committed a trespass in the accursed thing; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing; and the anger of Yahweh was kindled against the sons of Israēl.

2 And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, “Go up and view the country.” And the men went up and viewed Ai.

3 And they returned to Joshua, and said to him, “Don’t let all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; and don’t make all the people to labour to that place; for they are few.”

6 And Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the ground on his face before the ark of Yahweh until the evening, he and the elders of Israēl, and put dust on their heads.

7 And Joshua said, “Alas, Oh Adonai Yahweh, why have you brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? If only we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan!

8 Oh Lord, what shall I say, when Israēl turns their backs before their enemies!

10 And Yahweh said to Joshua, “Get up! Why do you lie on your face?

11 Israēl has sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them; for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and concealed also, and they have put it even among their own stuff.

12 Therefore the sons of Israēl couldn’t stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they were accursed; neither will I be with you any more, unless you destroy the accursed from among you.

13 Stand up! Consecrate the people, and say, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow; for thus says Yahweh Elohim of Israēl, “There is an accursed thing in the midst of you, Oh Israēl; you cannot stand before your enemies, until you take away the accursed thing from among you.”

19 And Joshua said to Achan, “My son, please give glory to Yahweh Elohim of Israēl, and make confession to him; and tell me now what you have done. Don’t hide it from me.”

19 καὶ εἶπεν Ἰησοῦς τῷ Ἀχὰρ Δὸς δόξαν σήμερον τῷ κυρίῳ θεῷ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ δὸς τὴν ἐξομολόγησιν καὶ ἀνάγγειλόν μοι τί ἐποίησας, καὶ μὴ κρύψῃς ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ.	19 καὶ εἶπε Ἰησοῦς τῷ Ἄχαρ· δὸς δόξαν σήμερον τῷ Κυρίῳ Θεῷ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ δὸς τὴν ἐξομολόγησιν καὶ ἀνάγγειλόν μοι τί ἐποίησας καὶ μὴ κρύψῃς ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ.

21 when I was looking, I saw among the spoils a good fur robe of Shinar, and 200 shekels of silver, and a bar of gold of 50 shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, now, they are buried in the ground in the middle of my tent, and the silver under it.”

21 εἶδον ἐν τῇ προνομῇ ψιλὴν ποικίλην καλὴν καὶ διακόσια δίδραχμα ἀργυρίου καὶ γλῶσσαν μίαν χρυσῆν πεντήκοντα διδράχμων καὶ ἐνθυμηθεὶς αὐτῶν ἔλαβον, καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὰ ἐγκέκρυπται ἐν τῇ γῇ ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ μου, καὶ τὸ ἀργύριον κέκρυπται ὑποκάτω αὐτῶν.	21 εἶδον ἐν τῇ προνομῇ ψιλὴν ποικίλην καλὴν καὶ διακόσια δίδραχμα ἀργυρίου καὶ γλῶσσαν μίαν χρυσῆν πεντήκοντα διδράχμων καὶ ἐνθυμηθεὶς αὐτῶν ἔλαβον, καὶ ἰδοὺ αὐτὰ ἐγκέκρυπται ἐν τῇ σκηνῇ μου καὶ τὸ ἀργύριον κέκρυπται ὑποκάτω αὐτῶν.

26 And they raised over him a great heap of stones to this day. So Yahweh turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, to this day.
