Job’s Confession
1 Then Job answered Yahweh, and said,
1 Then Job answered and said to the Lord, | 1 Then Job answered and said to the Lord, |
2 I know that you can do everything, and that no thought can be withheld from you.
2 I know that you canst do all things, and nothing is impossible with you. | 2 I know that you canst do all things, and nothing is impossible with you. |
3 Who is he who hides counsel without knowledge? Therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I didn’t know.

3 For who is he who hides counsel from you? or who keeps back his words, and thinks to hide them from you? and who will tell me what I didn’t know, great and wonderful things which I understood not? | 3 For who is he who hides counsel from you? or who keeps back his words, and thinks to hide them from you? and who will tell me what I didn’t know, great and wonderful things which I understood not? |
4 Hear, I beseech you, and I will speak: I will demand of you, and declare you to me.
4 But hear me, Oh Lord, that I also may speak; and I will ask you, and do you teach me. | 4 But hear me, Oh Lord, that I also may speak; and I will ask you, and do you teach me. |
5 I have heard of you by the hearing of the ear; but now my eye sees you.
5 I have heard the report of you by the ear before; but now my eye has seen you. | 5 I have heard the report of you by the ear before; but now my eye has seen you. |
6 Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
6 Therefore I have counted myself vile, and have fainted; and I esteem myself dust and ashes. | 6 Therefore I have counted myself vile, and have fainted; and I esteem myself dust and ashes. |
God Displeased with Job’s Friends
7 And it was so, that after Yahweh had spoken these words to Job, Yahweh said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends; for you haven’t spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.
7 And it happened after the Lord had spoken all these words to Job, that the Lord said to Eliphaz the Thaemanite, You have sinned, and your two friends; for you haven’t said anything true before me, as my servant Job has. | 7 And it happened after the Lord had spoken all these words to Job, that the Lord said to Eliphaz the Thaemanite, You have sinned, and your two friends; for you haven’t said anything true before me, as my servant Job has. |
8 Therefore take to you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you; for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that you haven’t spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.

8 Now then take seven bullocks, and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and he shall offer a burnt-offering for you. And my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will only accept him; for but his sake, I would have destroyed you, for you haven’t spoken the truth against my servant Job. |
9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as Yahweh commanded them: Yahweh also accepted Job.
9 So Eliphaz the Thaemanite, and Baldad the Sauchite, and Sōphar the Minaean, went and did as the Lord commanded them; and he pardoned their sin for the sake of Job. | 9 So Eliphaz the Thaemanite, and Baldad the Sauchite, and Sōphar the Minaean, went and did as the Lord commanded them; and he pardoned their sin for the sake of Job. |
God Restores Job’s Fortunes
10 And Yahweh turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also Yahweh gave Job twice as much as he had before.

10 And the Lord prospered Job; and when he prayed also for his friends, he forgave them their sin; and the Lord gave Job twice as much, even the double of what he had before. | 10 And the Lord prospered Job; and when he prayed also for his friends, he forgave them their sin; and the Lord gave Job twice as much, even the double of what he had before. |
11 Then came there to him all his brothers, and all his sisters, and all they who had been of his acquaintance before, and ate bread with him in his house; and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that Yahweh had brought on him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and everyone an earring of gold.

11 And all his brothers and his sisters heard all that had happened to him, and they came to him, and so did all that had known him from the first; and they ate and drank with him, and comforted him, and wondered at all that the Lord had brought on him; and each one gave him a lamb, and four drachms’ weight of gold, even of unstamped gold. |
12 So Yahweh blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning; for he had 14,000 sheep, and 6000 camels, and 1000 yoke of oxen, and 1000 female donkeys.
12 And the Lord blessed the latter end of Job, more than the beginning; and his cattle were 14,000 sheep, 6000 camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, a thousand she-donkeys of the pastures. | 12 And the Lord blessed the latter end of Job, more than the beginning; and his cattle were 14,000 sheep, 6000 camels, a thousand yoke of oxen, a thousand she-donkeys of the pastures. |
13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.
13 And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters. | 13 And there were born to him seven sons and three daughters. |
14 And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch.
14 And he called the first Day, and the second Casia, and the third Amalthaea’s horn. | 14 And he called the first Day, and the second Casia, and the third Amalthaea’s horn. |
15 And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them inheritance among their brothers.
15 And there were not found in comparison with the daughters of Job, fairer women than they in all the world; and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. | 15 And there were not found in comparison with the daughters of Job, fairer women than they in all the world; and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. |
16 After this lived Job 100 and 40 years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.
16 And Job lived after his affliction 170 years; and all the years he lived were 240; and Job saw his sons and his sons’ sons, the fourth generation. | 16 And Job lived after his affliction 170 years; and all the years he lived were 240; and Job saw his sons and his sons’ sons, the fourth generation. |
17 So Job died, being old and full of days.
