Healing of the Gerasene Demoniac
(Mt 8.28‑34; Lk 8.26‑39)

They came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gerasēnes. And they came to other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarēnes.
who had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, not even with a chain; who had his dwelling among the tombs. And no one was able to bind him anymore, not even with chains;
because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him. because he had often been bound with shackles and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him and the shackles broken in pieces, and no one was strong enough to subdue him.
And continually night and day, among the tombs and on the mountains, he was screaming and cutting himself with stones. And continually night and day, on the mountains and among the tombs, he was screaming and cutting himself with stones.
And after seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran and worshipped him; And after seeing Jesus from a distance, he ran and worshipped him;
5:7 καὶ κράξας φωνῇ μεγάλῃ λέγει, τί ἐμοὶ καὶ σοὶ, Ἰησοῦ υἱὲ τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου;
7 καὶ κράξας φωνῇ μεγάλῃ εἶπε, τί ἐμοὶ καὶ σοὶ, Ἰησοῦ, υἱὲ τοῦ θεοῦ τοῦ ὑψίστου;
and when shouting with a loud voice, he said, “What is it to me and you, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I charge you by God, don’t torment me!” and when shouting with a loud voice, he said, “What is it to me and you, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I charge you by God, don’t torment me!”
For he was saying to him, “Unclean spirit, come out of the man!” For he was saying to him, “Unclean spirit, come out of the man!”
5:9 καὶ ἐπηρώτα αὐτόν, τί ὄνομά σοι;
9 καὶ ἐπηρώτα αὐτόν, τί σοι ὄνομα;
And he was asking him, “What is your name?” And he said to him, “My name is Legion; because we are many.” And he was asking him, “What is your name?” And he answered saying, “My name is Legion; because we are many.”
And he kept begging him earnestly lest they should be sent out of the country. And he kept begging him earnestly lest they should be sent out of the country.
Now a large herd of pigs were there feeding nearby on the mountain. Now a large herd of pigs were there feeding near the mountain.
And he gave permission to them. And after coming out, the unclean spirits entered the pigs; and the herd rushed down the precipice into the sea, about 2000; and they were drowned in the sea. And Jesus immediately gave permission to them. And after coming out, the unclean spirits entered the pigs; and the herd rushed down the precipice into the sea; there were about 2000; and they were drowned in the sea.
Their herdsmen fled away and reported it in the city and in the country. And they came to see what it was that had occurred. Their herdsmen of the pigs fled away and reported it in the city and in the country. And they came out to see what it was that had occurred.
They came to Jesus and observed the previously demon-possessed sitting, clothed, and sane, the one who had had the “legion”; and they became frightened. They came to Jesus and observed the previously demon-possessed sitting, clothed, and sane, the one who had had the “legion”; and they became frightened.
Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man, and concerning the pigs. Those who had seen it described to them how it had happened to the demon-possessed man, and concerning the pigs.
While he was getting into the boat, the demon-possessed man appealed to him that he might accompany him. After he was getting into the boat, the demon-possessed man appealed to him that he might accompany him.
And he didn’t allow him, but he said to him, “Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how he had mercy on you.” But he didn’t allow him, but he said to him, “Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how he had mercy on you.”
And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed. And he went away and began to proclaim in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed.

and implored him earnestly, saying, “My young daughter is at the point of death; come and lay your hands on her, so that she might be healed and live.” and implored him earnestly, saying, “My young daughter is at the point of death; come and lay your hands on her, so that she might be healed and live.”
And he went away with him; and a large crowd was following him and crowding him. And he went away with him; and a large crowd was following him and crowding him.
And a woman who had a hemorrhage for twelve years, And a woman who had a hemorrhage for twelve years,
after hearing about Jesus, came in the crowd behind him, and she touched his cloak. after hearing about Jesus, came in the crowd behind him, and she touched his cloak.
For she used to say, “If I just touch his garments, I will be healed.” For she used to say, “If I just touch his garments, I will be healed.”
Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction.
5:30 καὶ εὐθὺς Ἰησοῦς ἐπιγνοὺς ἐν ἑαυτῷ τὴν ἐξ αὐτοῦ δύναμιν ἐξελθοῦσαν ἐπιστραφεὶς ἐν τῷ ὄχλῳ ἔλεγεν, τίς μου ἥψατο τῶν ἱματίων; 30 καὶ εὐθέως Ἰησοῦς ἐπιγνοὺς ἐν ἑαυτῷ τὴν ἐξ αὐτοῦ δύναμιν ἐξελθοῦσαν, ἐπιστραφεὶς ἐν τῷ ὄχλῳ ἔλεγε, τίς μου ἥψατο τῶν ἱματίων;
Immediately after knowing in himself that the power proceeding from him had gone forth, after turning around in the crowd, Jesus said, “Who touched my garments?” Immediately after knowing in himself that the power proceeding from him had gone forth, after turning around in the crowd, Jesus said, “Who touched my garments?”
5:31 καὶ ἔλεγον αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ, βλέπεις τὸν ὄχλον συνθλίβοντά σε καὶ λέγεις, τίς μου ἥψατο; 31 καὶ ἔλεγον αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ, βλέπεις τὸν ὄχλον συνθλίβοντά σε καὶ λέγεις, τίς μου ἥψατο;
And his disciples kept saying to him, “You see the crowd squeezing in on you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’ ” And his disciples kept saying to him, “You see the crowd squeezing in on you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’ ”

And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace and be healed of your affliction.” And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you; go in peace and be healed of your affliction.”
5:35 Ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος ἔρχονται ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀρχισυναγώγου λέγοντες ὅτι θυγάτηρ σου ἀπέθανεν· τί ἔτι σκύλλεις τὸν διδάσκαλον; 35 Ἔτι αὐτοῦ λαλοῦντος, ἔρχονται ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀρχισυναγώγου, λέγοντες, ὅτι θυγάτηρ σου ἀπέθανε· τί ἔτι σκύλλεις τὸν διδάσκαλον;
While he was still speaking, some men came from the synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; why still trouble the teacher?” While he was still speaking, some men came from the synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; why still trouble the teacher?”
But after overhearing the word being spoken, Jesus said to the synagogue official, “Stop fearing! Only believe!” But immediately after overhearing the word being spoken, Jesus said to the synagogue official, “Stop fearing! Only believe!”

39 καὶ εἰσελθὼν λέγει αὐτοῖς, τί θορυβεῖσθε καὶ κλαίετε;
And after entering in, he said to them, “Why are you troubled and weep? The child did not die, but is asleep.” And after entering in, he said to them, “Why are you troubled and weep? The child did not die, but is asleep.”

And after taking the child by the hand, he said to her, “Talitha koum!” which translated means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” And after taking the child by the hand, he said to her, “Talitha koumi!” which translated means, “Little girl, (I say to you) get up!”
And immediately the girl got up and began walking, for she was twelve years old. And [immediately] they were amazed with great amazement. And immediately the girl got up and began walking, for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were amazed with great amazement.
And he charged them much that no one should know about this, and he said to give her something to eat. And he charged them much that no one should know about this, and he said to give her something to eat.
