I Kings

1 And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israēl.

1 καὶ ἐκάθισεν τρία ἔτη, καὶ οὐκ ἦν πόλεμος ἀνὰ μέσον Συρίας καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Ἰσραήλ.	1 Καὶ ἐκάθισε τὰ τρία ἔτη, καὶ οὐκ ἦν πόλεμος ἀνὰ μέσον Συρίας καὶ ἀνὰ μέσον Ἰσραήλ.

2 And it happened in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israēl.

2 καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ τῷ τρίτῳ καὶ κατέβη Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς Ἰούδα πρὸς βασιλέα Ἰσραήλ.	2 καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐν τῷ ἐνιαυτῷ τῷ τρίτῳ καὶ κατέβη Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς Ἰούδα πρὸς βασιλέα Ἰσραήλ.

3 And the king of Israēl said to his servants, Do you know that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we are still, and won’t take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?

3 καὶ εἶπεν βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ εἰ οἴδατε ὅτι ἡμῖν Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαάδ, καὶ ἡμεῖς σιωπῶμεν λαβεῖν αὐτὴν ἐκ χειρὸς βασιλέως Συρίας;	3 καὶ εἶπε βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς τοὺς παῖδας αὐτοῦ· εἰ οἴδατε ὅτι ἡμῖν Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαάδ, καὶ ἡμεῖς σιωπῶμεν λαβεῖν αὐτὴν ἐκ χειρὸς βασιλέως Συρίας;
3 And the king of Israēl said to his servants, “Do you know you that Rhemmath Galaad is ours, and we are silent to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?”	3 And the king of Israēl said to his servants, “Do you know you that Rhemmath Galaad is ours, and we are silent to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?”

4 And he said to Jehoshaphat, Will you go with me to battle to Ramoth-gilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israēl, I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses.

4 καὶ εἶπεν βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσαφὰτ ἀναβήσῃ μεθ’ ἡμῶν εἰς Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαὰδ εἰς πόλεμον; καὶ εἶπεν Ἰωσαφὰτ καθὼς ἐγὼ οὕτως καὶ σύ, καθὼς ὁ λαός μου ὁ λαός σου, καθὼς οἱ ἵπποι μου οἱ ἵπποι σου.	4 καὶ εἶπε βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσαφάτ· ἀναβήσῃ μεθ’ ἡμῶν εἰς Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαὰδ εἰς πόλεμον;

5 And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israēl, Inquire, please, at the word of Yahweh today.

5 καὶ εἶπεν Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς Ἰούδα πρὸς βασιλέα Ἰσραὴλ ἐπερωτήσατε δὴ σήμερον τὸν κύριον.	5 καὶ εἶπε Ἰωσαφάτ· καθὼς ἐγὼ καὶ σὺ οὕτως, καθὼς ὁ λαός μου ὁ λαός σου, καθὼς οἱ ἵπποι μου οἱ ἵπποι σου. καὶ εἶπε Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς Ἰούδα πρὸς βασιλέα Ἰσραήλ· ἐπερωτήσατε δὴ σήμερον τὸν Κύριον.
5 And Jōsaphat king of Jouda said to the king of Israēl, “Okay, ask the Lord today.”	5 And Jōsaphat said, “As I am, so are you also, my people are just as your people, my horses are just as your horses.” And Jōsaphat king of Jouda said to the king of Israēl, “Okay, ask the Lord today.”

6 Then the king of Israēl gathered the prophets together, about 400 men, and said to them, Shall I go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for the Lord shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

6 καὶ συνήθροισεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πάντας τοὺς προφήτας ὡς τετρακοσίους ἄνδρας, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς ὁ βασιλεύς εἰ πορευθῶ εἰς Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαὰδ εἰς πόλεμον ἢ ἐπίσχω; καὶ εἶπαν ἀνάβαινε, καὶ διδοὺς δώσει κύριος εἰς χεῖρας τοῦ βασιλέως.	6 καὶ συνήθροισεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πάντας τοὺς προφήτας, ὡς τετρακοσίους ἄνδρας, καὶ εἶπε αὐτοῖς ὁ βασιλεύς· εἰ πορευθῶ εἰς Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαὰδ εἰς πόλεμον ἢ ἐπίσχω; καὶ εἶπον· ἀνάβαινε, καὶ διδοὺς δώσει Κύριος εἰς χεῖρας τοῦ βασιλέως.

7 And Jehoshaphat said, Is there not here a prophet of Yahweh besides, that we might inquire of him?

7 And Jōsaphat said to the king of Israēl, “Isn’t there a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of the Lord by him?”	7 And Jōsaphat said to the king of Israēl, “Isn’t there a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of the Lord by him?”

8 And the king of Israēl said to Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of Yahweh. but I hate him; for he doesn’t prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Don’t let the king say so.

8 καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσαφὰτ ἔτι ἔστιν ἀνὴρ εἷς τοῦ ἐπερωτῆσαι τὸν κύριον δι’ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἐγὼ μεμίσηκα αὐτόν, ὅτι οὐ λαλεῖ περὶ ἐμοῦ καλά, ἀλλ’ ἢ κακά, Μιχαιὰς υἱὸς Ἰεμλά. καὶ εἶπεν Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς Ἰούδα μὴ λεγέτω ὁ βασιλεὺς οὕτως.	8 καὶ εἶπε ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσαφάτ· εἷς ἐστιν ἀνὴρ εἰς τὸ ἐπερωτῆσαι δι’ αὐτοῦ τὸν Κύριον, καὶ ἐγὼ μεμίσηκα αὐτόν, ὅτι οὐ λαλεῖ περὶ ἐμοῦ καλά, ἀλλ’ ἢ κακά, Μιχαίας υἱὸς Ἰεμβλαά. καὶ εἶπε Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς Ἰούδα· μὴ λεγέτω ὁ βασιλεὺς οὕτως.
8 And the king of Israēl said to Jōsaphat, “There is still one man of whom to inquire of the Lord by him; but I hate him, because he doesn’t speak good about me, but only evil; Michaias son of Jemla.” And Jōsaphat king of Jouda said, “Don’t let the king say so.”	8 And the king of Israēl said to Jōsaphat, “There is still one man of whom to inquire of the Lord by him; but I hate him, because he doesn’t speak good about me, but only evil; Michaias son of Jemblaa.” And Jōsaphat king of Jouda said, “Don’t let the king say so.”

9 Then the king of Israēl called an officer, and said, Hasten here Micaiah the son of Imlah.

10 And the king of Israēl and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah sat each on his throne, having put on their robes, in a void place in the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

10 καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ καὶ Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς Ἰούδα ἐκάθηντο ἀνὴρ ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου αὐτοῦ ἔνοπλοι ἐν ταῖς πύλαις Σαμαρείας, καὶ πάντες οἱ προφῆται ἐπροφήτευον ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν.	10 καὶ ὁ βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ καὶ Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλεὺς Ἰούδα ἐκάθηντο ἀνὴρ ἐπὶ τοῦ θρόνου αὐτοῦ ἔνοπλοι ἐν ταῖς πύλαις Σαμαρείας, καὶ πάντες οἱ προφῆται ἐπροφήτευον ἐνώπιον αὐτῶν.

11 And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah made himself horns of iron; and he said, Thus says Yahweh, With these you shall push the Syrians, until you have consumed them.

11 καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑαυτῷ Σεδεκίας υἱὸς Χανανὰ κέρατα σιδηρᾶ καὶ εἶπεν τάδε λέγει κύριος ἐν τούτοις κερατιεῖς τὴν Συρίαν, ἕως συντελεσθῇ.	11 καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑαυτῷ Σεδεκίας υἱὸς Χανανὰ κέρατα σιδηρᾶ καὶ εἶπε· τάδε λέγει Κύριος· ἐν τούτοις κερατιεῖς τὴν Συρίαν, ἕως συντελεσθῇ.

12 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper. for Yahweh shall deliver it into the king’s hand.

12 καὶ πάντες οἱ προφῆται ἐπροφήτευον οὕτως λέγοντες ἀνάβαινε εἰς Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαάδ, καὶ εὐοδώσει καὶ δώσει κύριος εἰς χεῖράς σου καὶ τὸν βασιλέα Συρίας.	12 καὶ πάντες οἱ προφῆται ἐπροφήτευον οὕτως λέγοντες· ἀνάβαινε εἰς Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαάδ, καὶ εὐοδώσει καὶ δώσει Κύριος εἰς χεῖράς σου καὶ τὸν βασιλέα Συρίας.

13 And the messenger that was gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, Behold now, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one mouth: let your word, please, be like the word of one of them, and speak what is good.

13 καὶ ὁ ἄγγελος ὁ πορευθεὶς καλέσαι τὸν Μιχαίαη ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ λέγων ἰδοὺ δὴ λαλοῦσιν πάντες οἱ προφῆται ἐν στόματι ἑνὶ καλὰ περὶ τοῦ βασιλέως· γίνου δὴ καὶ σὺ εἰς λόγους σου κατὰ τοὺς λόγους ἑνὸς τούτων καὶ λάλησον καλά.	13 καὶ ὁ ἄγγελος ὁ πορευθεὶς καλέσαι τὸν Μιχαίαν ἐλάλησεν αὐτῷ λέγων· ἰδοὺ δὴ λαλοῦσι πάντες οἱ προφῆται ἐν στόματι ἑνὶ καλὰ περὶ τοῦ βασιλέως· γίνου δὴ καὶ σὺ εἰς τοὺς λόγους σου κατὰ τοὺς λόγους ἑνὸς τούτων καὶ λάλησον καλά.
13 And the messenger who went to call Michaias spoke to him, saying, “Look now! all the prophets are speaking with one mouth good things concerning the king, now let your words become like the words of one of them, and speak good things.”	13 And the messenger who went to call Michaias spoke to him, saying, “Look now! all the prophets are speaking with one mouth good things concerning the king, now let your words become like the words of one of them, and speak good things.”

14 And Micaiah said, As Yahweh lives, what Yahweh says to me, that will I speak.

14 καὶ εἶπεν Μιχαιὰς ζῇ κύριος ὅτι ἃ ἄν εἴπῃ κύριος πρός με, ταῦτα λαλήσω.	14 καὶ εἶπε Μιχαίας· ζῇ Κύριος, ὅτι ἃ ἐὰν εἴπῃ Κύριος πρός με, ταῦτα λαλήσω.

15 So he came to the king. And the king said to him, Micaiah, shall we go against Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall we forbear? And he answered him, Go, and prosper; for Yahweh shall deliver it into the hand of the king.

16 And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure you who you tell me nothing but what is true in the name of Yahweh?

16 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ βασιλεύς ποσάκις ἐγὼ ὁρκίζω σὲ ὅπως λαλήσῃς πρός με ἀλήθειαν ἐν ὀνόματι κυρίου;	16 καὶ εἶπε αὐτῷ ὁ βασιλεύς· ποσάκις ἐγὼ ὁρκίζω σε ὅπως λαλήσῃς πρός με ἀλήθειαν ἐν ὀνόματι Κυρίου;

17 And he said, I saw all Israēl scattered on the hills, as sheep that haven’t a shepherd. and Yahweh said, These have no master: let them return every man to his house in peace.

17 καὶ εἶπεν Μιχαιὰς οὐχ οὕτως· ἑώρακα πάντα τὸν Ἰσραὴλ διεσπαρμένον ἐν τοῖς ὄρεσιν ὡς ποίμνιον, ᾧ οὐκ ἔστιν ποιμήν, καὶ εἶπεν κύριος οὐ κύριος τούτοις, ἀναστρεφέτω ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ ἐν εἰρήνῃ.	17 καὶ εἶπε Μιχαίας· οὐχ οὕτως. ἑώρακα πάντα τὸν Ἰσραὴλ διεσπαρμένον ἐν τοῖς ὄρεσιν ὡς ποίμνιον, ᾧ οὐκ ἔστι ποιμήν, καὶ εἶπε Κύριος· οὐ κύριος τούτοις Θεός; ἕκαστος εἰς τὸν οἶκον αὐτοῦ ἐν εἰρήνῃ ἀναστρεφέτω.
17 And Michaias said, “Not so. I saw all Israēl scattered on the mountains as a flock which has no shepherd. and the Lord said, these have no lord, let each one return to his home in peace.”	17 And Michaias said, “Not so. 18 And the king of Israēl said to Jehoshaphat, Didn’t I tell you that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?

18 καὶ εἶπεν βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλέα Ἰούδα οὐκ εἶπα πρὸς σέ οὐ προφητεύει οὗτός μοι καλά, διότι ἀλλ’ ἢ κακά;	18 καὶ εἶπε βασιλεὺς Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς Ἰωσαφὰτ βασιλέα Ἰούδα· οὐκ εἶπα πρός σε ὅτι οὐ προφητεύει οὗτός μοι καλά, διότι ἀλλ’ ἢ κακά;
18 And the king of Israēl said to Jōsaphat king of Jouda, “Didn’t I say to you this man doesn’t prophesy good to me, but only evil?”	18 And the king of Israēl said to Jōsaphat king of Jouda, “Didn’t I say to you this man doesn’t prophesy good to me, but only evil?”

19 And he said, Hear therefore the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.

19 καὶ εἶπεν Μιχαιὰς οὐχ οὕτως, οὐκ ἐγώ, ἄκουε ῥῆμα κυρίου, οὐχ οὕτως· εἶδον τὸν κύριον θεὸν Ἰσραὴλ καθήμενον ἐπὶ θρόνου αὐτοῦ, καὶ πᾶσα ἡ στρατιὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ εἱστήκει περὶ αὐτὸν ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξ εὐωνύμων αὐτοῦ.	19 καὶ εἶπε Μιχαίας· οὐχ οὕτως, οὐκ ἐγώ, ἄκουε ῥῆμα Κυρίου, οὐχ οὕτως· εἶδον Θεὸν Ἰσραὴλ καθήμενον ἐπὶ θρόνου αὐτοῦ, καὶ πᾶσα ἡ στρατιὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ εἱστήκει περὶ αὐτὸν ἐκ δεξιῶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐξ εὐωνύμων.
19 And Michaias said, “Not so, it is not I. hear the word of the Lord; it is not so. I saw the Lord God of Israēl sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven stood about him on his right hand and on his left.”	19 And Michaias said, “Not so, it is not I. hear the word of the Lord; it is not so. I saw the God of Israēl sitting on his throne, and all the army of heaven stood about him on his right hand and on his left.”

20 And Yahweh said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.

20 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος τίς ἀπατήσει τὸν Ἀχαὰβ βασιλέα Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἀναβήσεται καὶ πεσεῖται ἐν Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαάδ; καὶ εἶπεν οὗτος οὕτως καὶ οὗτος οὕτως.	20 καὶ εἶπε Κύριος· τίς ἀπατήσει τὸν Ἀχαὰβ βασιλέα Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἀναβήσεται καὶ πεσεῖται ἐν Ῥεμμὰθ Γαλαάδ; καὶ εἶπε οὗτος οὕτως καὶ οὗτος οὕτως.
20 And the Lord said, “Who will deceive Achaab king of Israēl, that he may go up and fall in Rhemmath Galaad?” and this one spoke thus, and this one thus.	20 And the Lord said, “Who will deceive Achaab king of Israēl, that he may go up and fall in Rhemmath Galaad?” and this one spoke thus, and this one thus.

21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before Yahweh, and said, I will persuade him.

21 καὶ ἐξῆλθεν πνεῦμα καὶ ἔστη ἐνώπιον κυρίου καὶ εἶπεν ἐγὼ ἀπατήσω αὐτόν. καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτὸν κύριος ἐν τίνι;	21 καὶ ἐξῆλθε πνεῦμα καὶ ἔστη ἐνώπιον Κυρίου καὶ εἶπε· ἐγὼ ἀπατήσω αὐτόν.
21 And a spirit came out and stood in front of the Lord, and said, “I will deceive him.” and the Lord said to him, “With what?”	21 And a spirit came out and stood in front of the Lord, and said, “I will deceive him.”

22 And Yahweh said to him, with what? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, You shall persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.
