1 And when the people complained, it displeased Yahweh; and Yahweh heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of Yahweh burned among them, and consumed those who were in the uttermost parts of the camp.

2 And the people cried to Moses; and when Moses prayed to Yahweh, the fire was quenched.

4 And the mixed multitude that was among them hungered greatly; and the sons of Israēl also wept again, and said, “Who shall give us meat to eat?

7 And the manna was as coriander seed, and its appearance was like the appearance of a pearl.

8 And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it which tasted like the taste of fresh oil.

9 And when the dew fell on the camp in the night, the manna fell on it.

10 Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent; and the anger of Yahweh was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.

11 And Moses said to Yahweh, “Why have you afflicted your servant? And therefore I haven’t found favour in your sight, that you lay the burden of all this people on me?

11 καὶ εἶπεν Μωυσῆς πρὸς κύριον Ἵνα τί ἐκάκωσας τὸν θεράποντά σου, καὶ διὰ τί οὐχ εὕρηκα χάριν ἐναντίον σου ἐπιθεῖναι τὴν ὁρμὴν τοῦ λαοῦ τούτου ἐπ’ ἐμέ;	11 καὶ εἶπε Μωυσῆς πρὸς Κύριον· ἱνατί ἐκάκωσας τὸν θεράποντά σου, καὶ διατί οὐχ εὕρηκα χάριν ἐναντίον σου, ἐπιθεῖναι τὴν ὁρμὴν τοῦ λαοῦ τούτου ἐπ’ ἐμέ;

14 I am not able to carry all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.

15 And if you deal thus with me, kill me now, please, if I have found favour in your sight; and don’t let me see my wretchedness.”

16 And Yahweh said to Moses, “Gather to me 70 men of the elders of Israēl, whom you know to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them to the tent of the congregation, that they may stand there with you.

16 Καὶ εἶπεν κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν Συνάγαγέ μοι ἑβδομήκοντα ἄνδρας ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων Ἰσραήλ, οὓς αὐτὸς σὺ οἶδας ὅτι οὗτοί εἰσιν πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ γραμματεῖς αὐτῶν, καὶ ἄξεις αὐτοὺς πρὸς τὴν σκηνὴν τοῦ μαρτυρίου, καὶ στήσονται ἐκεῖ μετὰ σου.	16 καὶ εἶπε Κύριος πρὸς Μωυσῆν· συνάγαγε μοι ἑβδομήκοντα ἄνδρας ἀπὸ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων Ἰσραήλ, οὓς αὐτὸς σὺ οἶδας, ὅτι οὗτοί εἰσι πρεσβύτεροι τοῦ λαοῦ καὶ γραμματεῖς αὐτῶν. καὶ ἄξεις αὐτοὺς πρὸς τὴν σκηνὴν τοῦ μαρτυρίου, καὶ στήσονται ἐκεῖ μετὰ σοῦ.

17 And I will come down and talk with you there; and I will take of the spirit which is on you, and will put it on them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you bear it not yourself alone.

18 And say to the people, ‘Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat; for you have wept in the ears of Yahweh, saying, “Who shall give us meat to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt.” Therefore Yahweh will give you meat, and you shall eat.

18 And you shall say to the people, Purify yourselves for the next day, and you shall eat meat; for you wept before the Lord, saying, ‛Who shall give us meat to eat? 20 But even a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils, and it is loathsome to you; because you have despised Yahweh which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, “Why did we come out of Egypt?” ’ ”

20 ἕως μηνὸς ἡμερῶν φάγεσθε, ἕως ἄν ἐξέλθῃ ἐκ τῶν μυκτήρων ὑμῶν, καὶ ἔσται ὑμῖν εἰς χολέραν, ὅτι ἠπειθήσατε κυρίῳ, ὅς ἐστιν ἐν ὑμῖν, καὶ ἐκλαύσατε ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ λέγοντες Ἵνα τί ἡμῖν ἐξελθεῖν ἐξ Αἰγύπτου;	20 ἕως μηνὸς ἡμερῶν φάγεσθε, ἕως ἄν ἐξέλθῃ ἐκ τῶν μυκτήρων ὑμῶν. καὶ ἔσται ὑμῖν εἰς χολέραν, ὅτι ἠπειθήσατε Κυρίῳ, ὅς ἐστιν ἐν ὑμῖν, καὶ ἐκλαύσατε ἐναντίον αὐτοῦ λέγοντες· ἱνατί ἡμῖν ἐξελθεῖν ἐξ Αἰγύπτου;

21 And Moses said, “The people, among whom I am, are 600,000 footmen; and you have said, ‘I will give them meat, that they may eat a whole month.’

21 καὶ εἶπεν Μωυσῆς Ἑξακόσιαι χιλιάδες πεζῶν ὁ λαός, ἐν οἷς εἰμι ἐν αὐτοῖς, καὶ σὺ εἶπας Κρέα δώσω αὐτοῖς φαγεῖν, καὶ φάγονται μῆνα ἡμερῶν;	21 καὶ εἶπε Μωυσῆς· ἑξακόσιαι χιλιάδες πεζῶν ὁ λαός, ἐν οἷς εἰμι ἐν αὐτοῖς. καὶ σὺ εἶπας κρέα δώσω αὐτοῖς φαγεῖν, καὶ φάγονται μῆνα ἡμερῶν.

22 μὴ πρόβατα καὶ βόες σφαγήσονται αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἀρκέσει αὐτοῖς; ἢ πᾶν τὸ ὄψος τῆς θαλάσσης συναχθήσεται αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἀρκέσει αὐτοῖς;	22 μὴ πρόβατα καὶ βόες σφαγήσονται αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἀρκέσει αὐτοῖς; ἢ πᾶν τὸ ὄψος τῆς θαλάσσης συναχθήσεται αὐτοῖς, καὶ ἀρκέσει αὐτοῖς;
22 Shall sheep and oxen be slain for them, and shall it satisfy them? 23 And Yahweh said to Moses, “Is Yahweh’s hand grown short? You shall see now whether my word shall come to pass to you or not.”

24 And Moses went out, and told the people the words of Yahweh, and gathered the 70 men of the elders of the people, and set them all around the tent.
