God’s Gracious Dealings

1 “You shall observe to do all the commandments which I command you this day, so that you may live, and multiply, and go in and possess the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers.

1 You shall be careful to do all the commandments that I command you today, in order that you may live and increase and go in and inherit the land that your Lord God swore to your fathers. 1 You shall be careful to do all the commandments that I command you today, in order that you may live and increase and go in and inherit the land that your Lord God swore to your fathers.

2 And you shall remember all the way which Yahweh your Elohim led you these 40 years in the wilderness, to humble you, and to prove you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not.

2 And you shall remember all the way that your Lord God led you in the wilderness so that he might challenge you and test you and discern the things in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. 2 And you shall remember all the way that your Lord God led you in the wilderness so that he might challenge you and test you and discern the things in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.

3 And he humbled you, and suffered you to hunger, and fed you with manna, which you didn’t know, neither did your fathers know; that he might make you know that man doesn’t live by bread only, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of Yahweh does man live.

3 And he challenge you and let you hunger and fed you with manna with which your fathers didn’t see before in order to announce to you that man shall not live by bread alone, but man shall live by every word that goes out through the mouth of God. 3 And he challenge you and let you hunger and fed you with manna with which your fathers didn’t see before in order to announce to you that man shall not live by bread alone, but man shall live by every word that goes out through the mouth of God.

4 Your clothing did not wear out on you, neither did your foot swell, these 40 years.

4 Your clothes didn’t wear out from you; your feet didn’t become calloused; look! 40 years! 4 Your clothes didn’t wear out from you; your feet didn’t become calloused; look! 40 years!

5 You shall also consider in your heart, that, as a man chastens his son, so Yahweh your Elohim chastens you.

5 And you shall know in your heart that as some man might discipline his son, so your Lord God will discipline you. 5 And you shall know in your heart that as some man might discipline his son, so your Lord God will discipline you.

6 Therefore you shall keep the commandments of Yahweh your Elohim, to walk in his ways, and to fear him.

6 And you shall keep the commandments of your Lord God, to go in his ways and to fear him. 6 And you shall keep the commandments of your Lord God, to go in his ways and to fear him.

7 For Yahweh your Elohim brings you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills;

7 For your Lord God is bringing you into a good and abundant land in which there are streams of waters and deep fountains, flowing out through the fields and through the mountains, 7 For your Lord God is bringing you into a good and abundant land in which there are streams of waters and deep fountains, flowing out through the fields and through the mountains,

8 a land of wheat, and barley, and vines, and fig trees, and pomegranates; a land of oil olive, and honey;

8 a land of wheat and barley, grapevines, figs, pomegranates, a land of olive trees of oil and of honey, 8 a land of wheat and barley, grapevines, figs, pomegranates, a land of olive trees of oil and of honey,

9 a land in which you shall eat bread without scarceness, you shall not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you may dig bronze.

9 a land on which you will eat your bread without poverty and will not be in need of anything on it, a land whose stones are iron and from its mountains you will mine copper-alloy. 9 a land on which you will eat your bread without poverty and will not be in need of anything on it, a land whose stones are iron and from its mountains you will mine copper-alloy.

10 When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless Yahweh your Elohim for the good land which he has given you.

10 And you shall eat and be filled and bless your Lord God on the good land that he gave you. 10 And you shall eat and be filled and bless your Lord God on the good land that he gave you.

11 Beware that you don’t forget Yahweh your Elohim, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command you this day.

11 Pay attention to yourself lest you forget your Lord God, so as not to keep his commandments and his judgments and his statutes, which I command you today. 11 Pay attention to yourself lest you forget your Lord God, so as not to keep his commandments and his judgments and his statutes, which I command you today.

12 Lest when you have eaten and are full, and have built good houses, and dwelt in it;

12 Lest, when you have eaten and been filled and, having built fine homes and lived in them, 12 Lest, when you have eaten and been filled and, having built fine homes and lived in them,

13 and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied;

13 and when your oxen and sheep have multiplied for you and when silver and gold have been multiplied for you and when all that you own has been multiplied for you, 13 and when your oxen and sheep have multiplied for you and when silver and gold have been multiplied for you and when all that you own has been multiplied for you,

14 then your heart will be lifted up, and you will forget Yahweh your Elohim, who brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

14 you become exalted in heart and forget your Lord God, who brought you out of the land of Aigypt, out of a house of slavery, 14 you become exalted in heart and forget your Lord God, who brought you out of the land of Aigypt, out of a house of slavery,

15 who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought; where there was no water; who brought forth water out of the rock of flint for you;

15 who led you through that great and fearsome wilderness, where there was a biting snake and a scorpion and thirst, where there was no water, who brought out for you a spring of water from hard rock, 15 who led you through that great and fearsome wilderness, where there was a biting snake and a scorpion and thirst, where there was no water, who brought out for you a spring of water from hard rock,

16 who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers didn’t know, so that he might humble you, and so that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end;

16 who nourished you with manna in the wilderness that your fathers didn’t know so that he might challenge you and test you, that you might do well at your end. 16 who nourished you with manna in the wilderness that your fathers didn’t know so that he might challenge you and test you, that you might do well at your end.

17 and you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand has made me this wealth.’

17 Don’t start to say in your heart, “My strength and the might of my hand have done for me this great ability.” 17 Don’t start to say in your heart, “My strength and the might of my hand have done for me this great ability.

18 But you shall remember Yahweh your Elohim; for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

18 And you shall remember your Lord God, because it is he who gives you strength to produce ability; and in order that he may establish his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as today. 18 And you shall remember your Lord God, because it is he who gives you strength to produce ability; and in order that he may establish his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as today.

19 And it shall be, if you do at all forget Yahweh your Elohim, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.

19 And it shall be, if by forgetting you forget your Lord God and depart after other gods and serve them and worship them, I declare as a witness to you today that with destruction you shall perish. 19 And it shall be, if by forgetting you forget your Lord God and depart after other gods and serve them and worship them, I declare as a witness to you today that with destruction you shall perish.

20 As the nations which Yahweh destroys before your face, so you shall perish; because you would not be obedient to the voice of Yahweh your Elohim.”

20 As also the remaining nations, which the Lord is destroying before you, so you shall perish, because you have not heard the voice of your Lord God. 20 As also the remaining nations, which the Lord is destroying before you, so you shall perish, because you have not heard the voice of your Lord God.
