Salvation Reaches to the End of the Earth
1 Listen, Oh isles, to me; and listen, you people, from far; Yahweh has called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother has he made mention of my name.

Hear me, Oh islands; pay attention, Oh nations!
After a long time it shall stand, says the Lord. From my mother’s womb he called my name |
1
Hear me, Oh islands; pay attention, Oh nations!
After a long time it shall stand, says the Lord. From my mother’s womb he called my name |
2 And he has made my mouth like a sharp sword; in the shadow of his hand has he hid me, and made me a polished shaft; in his quiver has he hid me;
2 and caused my mouth to be like a sharp dagger, and under the shelter of his hand he hid me; he caused me to be like a chosen arrow, and in his quiver he sheltered me. | 2 and caused my mouth to be like a sharp dagger, and under the shelter of his hand he hid me; he caused me to be like a chosen arrow, and in his quiver he sheltered me. |
3
And said to me, You are my servant, Oh Israēl, in whom I will be glorified.
3 And he said to me, “You are my slave, Israēl, and in you I will be glorified.” | 3 And he said to me, “You are my slave, Israēl, and in you I will be glorified.” |
4
Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nothing, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with Yahweh, and my work with my God.
4 And I said, “I have laboured vainly, and I have given my strength in vain and for nothing; therefore my judgment is with the Lord, and my toil before my God.” | 4 And I said, “I have laboured vainly, and I have given my strength in vain and for nothing; therefore my judgment is with the Lord, and my toil before my God.” |
5 And now, says Yahweh that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacōb again to him, Though Israēl isn’t gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of Yahweh, and my God shall be my strength.
5
5 And now thus says the Lord, who formed me from the womb to be his own slave, to gather Jakōb and Israēl to him; I will be gathered and glorified before the Lord, and my God shall be my strength. | 5 And now thus says the Lord, who formed me from the womb to be his own slave, to gather Jakōb and Israēl to him; I will be gathered and glorified before the Lord, and my God shall be my strength. |
6 And he said, It is a light thing that you should be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacōb, and to restore the preserved of Israēl: I will also give you for a light to the Gentiles, that you may be my salvation to the end of the earth.
6
And he said to me, “It is a great thing for you to be called my servant so that you may set up the tribes of Jakōb and turn back the dispersion of Israēl.
Look! I have caused you to be a covenant of races for a light of nations, that you may be for salvation to the end of the land.” |
6
And he said to me, “It is a great thing for you to be called my servant so that you may set up the tribes of Jakōb and turn back the dispersion of Israēl.
Look! I have given you for a covenant of races for a light of nations, that you may be for salvation to the end of the land.” |
7 Thus says Yahweh, the Redeemer of Israēl, and his Holy One, to him whom man despises, to him whom the nation abhors, to a servant of rulers, Kings shall see and arise, princes also shall worship, because of Yahweh that is faithful, and the Holy One of Israēl, and he shall choose you.
7 Thus says the Lord who rescued you, the God of Israēl. “Sanctify him who despises his own soul, who is abhorred by the nations, the slaves of leaders; kings shall see him, and leaders shall stand up and do obeisance to him for the Lord’s sake, because the Holy One of Israēl is faithful, and I have chosen you.” | 7 Thus says the Lord who rescued you, the God of Israēl. “Sanctify him who despises his own soul, who is abhorred by the nations, the slaves of leaders; kings shall see him, and leaders shall stand up and do obeisance to him for the Lord’s sake, because the Holy One of Israēl is faithful, and I have chosen you.” |
8 Thus says Yahweh, In an acceptable time have I heard you, and in a day of salvation have I helped you; and I will preserve you, and give you for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth, to cause to inherit the desolate heritages;
8 Thus says the Lord: In an acceptable time I have listened to you, and on a day of salvation I have helped you; and I gave you as a covenant to nations, to establish the land, and to inherit a wilderness heritage, | 8 Thus says the Lord: In an acceptable time I have listened to you, and on a day of salvation I have helped you; and I made you; and I gave you as a covenant to nations, to establish the land, and to inherit a wilderness heritage, |
9 That you may say to the prisoners, Go forth; to those who are in darkness, Show yourselves. They shall feed in the ways, and their pastures shall be in all high places.

And they shall feed in all their ways; in all the paths shall be their pasture; |
10 They shall not hunger nor thirst; neither shall the heat nor sun smite them; for he who has mercy on them shall lead them, even by the springs of water he shall guide them.

11
And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted.
11 And I will put every road on every mountain and every path into a pasture for them. | 11 And I will put every road on every mountain and every path into a pasture for them. |
12 Behold, these shall come from far: and, lo, these from the north and from the west; and these from the land of Sinim.
12 Look! These come from far away, these from the north and these from the sea but others from the land of the Persians. | 12 Look! These come from far away, these from the north and these from the sea but others from the land of the Persians. |
13
Sing, Oh heavens; and be joyful, Oh earth; and break forth into singing, Oh mountains; for Yahweh has comforted his people, and will have mercy on his afflicted.
13 Rejoice, Oh skies, and let the land be glad; let the mountains break forth with gladness, and the hills with righteousness, because God has had mercy on his people and he has comforted the humble of his people. | 13 Rejoice, Oh skies, and let the land be glad; let the mountains break forth with gladness, and the hills with righteousness, because God has had mercy on his people and he has comforted the humble of his people. |
Promise to Zion
14 But Zion said, Yahweh has forsaken me, and my Lord has forgotten me.
14 But Siōn said, “The Lord has forsaken me; the Lord has forgotten me.” | 14 But Siōn said, “The Lord has forsaken me; the Lord has forgotten me.” |
15 Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have mercy on the son of her womb? Yes, they may forget, yet will I not forget you.

Will a woman forget her child so as not to have mercy on the descendants of her womb?
But even if a woman should forget these, yet I won’t forget you, said the Lord. |
15
Will a woman forget her child so as not to have mercy on the descendants of her womb?
But even if a woman should forget these, yet I won’t forget you, said the Lord. |
16 Behold, I have engraven you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.
16 Look! I have painted your walls on my hands, and you are continually before me. | 16 Look! I have painted your walls on my hands, and you are continually before me. |
17 Your children shall make haste; your destroyers and they who made you waste shall go forth of you.
17 And soon you will be built by those by whom you were destroyed, and those who made you desolate will go out from you. | 17 And soon you will be built by those by whom you were destroyed, and those who made you desolate will go out from you. |
18 Lift up your eyes all around, and behold: all these gather themselves together, and come to you. As I live, says Yahweh, you shall surely clothe you with them all, as with an ornament, and bind them on you, as a bride does.
18
Lift up your eyes all around, and see them all.
Look! They have gathered and have come to you.
I live, says the Lord, because you shall clothe them all and put them on like a bride’s ornament. |
18
Lift up your eyes all around, and see them all.
Look! They have gathered and have come to you.
I live, says the Lord, because you shall clothe them all and put them on like a bride’s ornament. |
19 For your waste and your desolate places, and the land of your destruction, shall even now be too narrow by reason of the inhabitants, and they who swallowed you up shall be far away.
19 Because your deserted and spoiled and ruined places will now be confined on account of your inhabitants, and those who swallow you up will be far away from you. | 19 Because your deserted and spoiled and ruined places will now be confined on account of your inhabitants, and those who swallow you up will be far away from you. |
20 The children which you shall have, after you have lost the other, shall say again in your ears, The place is too strait for me: give place to me that I may dwell.
20 For your sons whom you have lost will say in your ears. “The place is too confined for me; make a place for me in order that I may reside.” | 20 For your sons whom you have lost will say in your ears. “The place is too confined for me; make a place for me in order that I may reside.” |
21 Then you shall say in your heart, Who has fathered me these, seeing I have lost my children, and am desolate, a captive, and removing to and fro? And who has brought up these? Behold, I was left alone; these, where had they been?

And you will say in your heart, “Who has fathered these for me? But I was childless and a widow, so who has reared these for me? But I was left alone, so from where have these come for me?” |
22 Thus says Adonai Yahweh, Behold, I will lift up my hand to the Gentiles, and set up my standard to the people; and they shall bring your sons in their arms, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.
22 Thus says the Lord: Look! I am lifting up my hand to the nations, and I will lift my signal to the islands, and they shall bring your sons in their bosom, and your daughters shall they carry on their shoulders. | 22 Thus says the Lord: Look! I am lifting up my hand to the nations, and I will lift my signal to the islands, and they shall bring your sons in their bosom, and your daughters shall they carry on their shoulders. |
23 And kings shall be your nursing fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers: they shall bow down to you with their face toward the earth, and lick up the dust of your feet; and you shall know that I am Yahweh; for they shall not be ashamed that wait for me.
23
And kings shall be your foster parents, and the women who rule, your nurses.
On the surface of the land they shall do obeisance to you, and they shall lick up the dust from your feet. And you will know that I am the Lord, and you shall not be put to shame. |
23

25 But thus says Yahweh, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered; for I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will save your children.

26 And I will feed those who oppress you with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine; and all flesh shall know that I Yahweh am your Saviour and your Redeemer, the mighty One of Jacōb.
