Judges

1 Now these are the nations which Yahweh left, to prove Israēl by them, even as many of Israēl as had not experienced all the wars of Canaan;

1 Καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ἔθνη ἀφῆκεν Ἰησοῦς ὥστε πειράσαι ἐν αὐτοῖς τὸν Ἰσραὴλ πάντας τοὺς μὴ ἐγνωκότας πάντας τοὺς πολέμους Χαναάν,	1 Καὶ ταῦτα τὰ ἔθνη ἃ ἀφῆκεν κύριος αὐτὰ ὥστε πειράσαι ἐν αὐτοῖς τὸν Ἰσραήλ, πάντας τοὺς μὴ ἐγνωκότας τοὺς πολέμους Χαναάν,
1 And Jēsous left these nations so as to test Israēl by means of them, all those who had no experience of all the wars of Chanaan,	1 And these are the nations, those that the Lord left so as to test Israēl by means of them, all those who had no experience of the wars of Chanaan,

2 only that the generations of the sons of Israēl might be taught to know war, at least those who didn’t experience it previously;

3 τὰς πέντε σατραπείας τῶν ἀλλοφύλων καὶ πάντα τὸν Χαναναῖον καὶ τὸν Σιδώνιον καὶ τὸν Εὐαῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα τὸν Λίβανον ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄρους τοῦ Βαλαερμὼν ἕως Λοβωημάθ.	3 τὰς πέντε σατραπείας τῶν ἀλλοφύλων καὶ πάντα τὸν Χαναναῖον καὶ τὸν Σιδώνιον καὶ τὸν Εὐαῖον τὸν κατοικοῦντα τὸν Λίβανον ἀπὸ τοῦ ὄρους τοῦ Ἀερμῶν ἕως Λαβωεμάθ.

7 And the sons of Israēl did evil in the sight of Yahweh, and forgot Yahweh their God, and served Baals and the good luck pillars.

7 Καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ τὸ πονηρὸν ἔναντι κυρίου καὶ ἐπελάθοντο κυρίου θεοῦ αὐτῶν καὶ ἐλάτρευσαν ταῖς Βααλὶμ καὶ τοῖς ἄλσεσιν.	7 Καὶ ἐποίησαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ τὸ πονηρὸν ἐναντίον κυρίου, καὶ ἐπελάθοντο κυρίου τοῦ θεοῦ αὐτῶν, καὶ ἐλάτρευσαν τοῖς Βααλὶμ καὶ τοῖς ἄλσεσιν.

8 Therefore the anger of Yahweh was hot against Israēl, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia; and the sons of Israēl served Chushan-Rishathaim eight years.

8 καὶ ὠργίσθη θυμῷ κύριος ἐν τῷ Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἀπέδοτο αὐτοὺς εἰς χεῖρας Χουσαρσαθὼμ βασιλέως Συρίας ποταμῶν, καὶ ἐδούλευσαν αὐτῷ ὀκτὼ ἔτη.	8 καὶ ὠργίσθη θυμῷ κύριος ἐν τῷ Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἀπέδοτο αὐτοὺς ἐν χειρὶ Χουσαρσαθαὶμ βασιλέως Συρίας. ποταμῶν καὶ ἐδούλευσαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ τῷ Χουσαρσαθαὶμ ἔτη ὀκτώ.
8 And with wrath the Lord was angry against Israēl, and he gave them up into the hands of King Chousarsathōm of Syria of rivers, and they served him eight years.	8 And with wrath the Lord was angry against Israēl, and he gave them up in the hand of King Chousarsathaim of Syria of rivers, and the sons of Israēl served Chousarsathaim eight years.

9 And when the sons of Israēl cried to Yahweh, Yahweh raised up a deliverer to the sons of Israēl, who delivered them, even Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.

9 καὶ ἐκέκραξαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς κύριον· καὶ ἤγειρεν κύριος σωτῆρα τῷ Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἔσωσεν αὐτούς, τὸν Γοθονιὴλ υἱὸν Κενὲζ ἀδελφὸν Χαλὲβ τὸν νεώτερον αὐτοῦ, καὶ εἰσήκουσεν αὐτοῦ.	9 καὶ ἐκέκραξαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς κύριον· καὶ ἤγειρεν κύριος σωτῆρα τῷ Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἔσωσεν αὐτούς, τὸν Γοθονιὴλ υἱὸν Κενὲζ ἀδελφοῦ Χαλὲβ τὸν νεώτερον ὑπὲρ αὐτόν.

10 And the Spirit of Yahweh came on him, and he judged Israēl, and went out to war; and Yahweh delivered Chushan-Rishathaim king of Mesopotamia into his hand; and his hand prevailed against Chushan-Rishathaim.

10 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐπ’ αὐτὸν πνεῦμα κυρίου, καὶ ἔκρινεν τὸν Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἐπὶ τὸν πόλεμον· καὶ παρέδωκεν κύριος ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ τὸν Χουσαρσαθὼμ βασιλέα Συρίας, καὶ ἐκραταιώθη ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὸν Χουσαρσαθλώμ.	10 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐπ’ αὐτὸν πνεῦμα κυρίου, καὶ ἔκρινεν τὸν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἐξῆλθεν εἰς πόλεμον πρὸς Χουσαρσαθαίμ· καὶ παρέδωκεν κύριος ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ τὸν Χουσαρσαθαὶμ βασιλέα Συρίας ποταμῶν, καὶ ἐκραταιώθη ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ ἐπὶ τὸν Χουσαρσαθαίμ.

12 And the sons of Israēl did evil again in the sight of Yahweh; and Yahweh strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israēl, because they had done evil in the sight of Yahweh.

12 Καὶ προσέθεντο οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ ποιῆσαι τὸ πονηρὸν ἔναντι κυρίου. καὶ ἐνίσχυσεν κύριος τὸν Ἐγλὼμ βασιλέα Μωὰβ ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰσραὴλ διὰ τὸ πεποιηκέναι αὐτοὺς τὸ πονηρὸν ἔναντι κυρίου.	12 Καὶ προσέθεντο οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ ποιῆσαι τὸ πονηρὸν ἐνώπιον κυρίου· καὶ ἐνίσχυσεν κύριος τὸν Ἐγλὼμ βασιλέα Μωὰβ ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰσραήλ, διὰ τὸ πεποιηκέναι αὐτοὺς τὸ πονηρὸν ἔναντι κυρίου.
12 And the sons of Israēl persisted to do what was evil before the Lord, and the Lord strengthened King Eglōm of Mōab against Israēl, because they had done what was evil before the Lord.	12 And the sons of Israēl added to do what was evil before the Lord, and the Lord strengthened King Eglōm of Mōab against Israēl, because they had done what was evil before the Lord.

13 And he gathered to him the sons of Ammon and Amalēk, and went and smote Israēl, and possessed the city of palm trees.

13 καὶ προσήγαγεν πρὸς αὐτὸν πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἀμμὼν καὶ Ἀμαλὴκ καὶ ἐπορεύθη καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὸν Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἐκληρονόμησεν τὴν πόλιν τῶν φοινίκων.	13 καὶ συνήγαγεν πρὸς ἑαυτὸν πάντας τοὺς υἱοὺς Ἀμμὼν καὶ Ἀμαλήκ, καὶ ἐπορεύθη καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὸν Ἰσραήλ, καὶ ἐκληρονόμησεν τὴν πόλιν τῶν φοινίκων.
13 And he brought to him all the sons of Ammōn and Amalēk, and he went and struck Israēl, and he inherited the City of Palms.	13 And he gathered to himself all the sons of Ammōn and Amalēk, and he went and struck Israēl, and he inherited the City of Palms.

14 So the sons of Israēl served Eglon the king of Moab 18 years.

15 But when the sons of Israēl cried to Yahweh, Yahweh raised them up a deliverer, Ehud the son of Gera, a Benjamite, lefthanded man; and by him the sons of Israēl sent a present to Eglon the king of Moab.

15 καὶ ἐκέκραξαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς κύριον· καὶ ἤγειρεν αὐτοῖς κύριος σωτῆρα τὸν Ἀὼδ υἱὸν Γηρὰ υἱοῦ τοῦ Ἰεμενί, ἄνδρα ἀμφοτεροδέξιον καὶ ἀπέστειλαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ δῶρα ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ τῷ Ἐγλὼμ βασιλεῖ Μωάβ.	15 καὶ ἐκέκραξαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ πρὸς κύριον· καὶ ἤγειρεν αὐτοῖς σωτῆρα τὸν Ἀὼδ υἱὸν Γηρὰ υἱὸν τοῦ Ἰεμενί, ἄνδρα ἀμφοτεροδέξιον. καὶ ἐξαπέστειλαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ δῶρα ἐν χειρὶ αὐτοῦ τῷ Ἐγλὼμ βασιλεῖ Μωάβ.
15 And the sons of Israēl cried out to the Lord, and the Lord raised up for them a deliverer, Aōd son of Gēra son of Jemeni, an ambidextrous man. 16 But Ehud made himself a double-edged dagger a cubit long; and he attached it under his clothing on his right thigh.

16 καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑαυτῷ Ἀὼδ μάχαιραν δίστομον, σπιθαμῆς τὸ μῆκος, καὶ περιεζώσατο αὐτὴν ὑπὸ τὸν μανδύαν ἐπὶ τὸν μηρὸν τὸν δεξιὸν αὐτοῦ.	16 καὶ ἐποίησεν ἑαυτῷ Ἀὼδ μάχαιραν δίστομον, σπιθαμῆς τὸ μῆκος αὐτῆς, καὶ περιεζώσατο αὐτὴν ὑπὸ τὸν μανδύαν ἐπὶ τὸν μηρὸν τὸν δεξιὸν αὐτοῦ.

18 And when he had made an end to offer the present, he sent away the people that carrued the present.

19 But he himself turned again from the idol carvings that were at Gilgal, and said, “I have a secret errand for you, Oh king.” He replied, “Keep silence!” And all who stood by him went out from him.

19 καὶ Ἐγλὼμ ἀνέστρεψεν ἀπὸ τῶν γλυπτῶν μετὰ τῆς Γαλγάλ, καὶ εἶπεν Ἀὼδ Λόγος μοι κρύφιος πρὸς σέ, βασιλεῦ. καὶ εἶπεν Ἐγλὼμ πᾶσιν Ἐκ μέσου· καὶ ἐξῆλθον ἀπ’ αὐτοῦ πάντες οἱ παραστήκοντες αὐτῷ.	19 καὶ αὐτὸς ὑπέστρεψεν ἀπὸ τῶν γλυπτῶν τῶν μετὰ τῆς Γαλγάλ, καὶ εἶπεν Ἀὼδ Λόγος μοι κρύφιος πρὸς σέ, βασιλεῦ, καὶ εἶπεν Ἐγλὼμ πρὸς αὐτόν Σιώπα· καὶ ἐξαπέστειλεν ἀφ’ ἑαυτοῦ πάντας τοὺς ἐφεστῶτας ἐπ’ αὐτόν.
19 And Eglōm turned back from the carvings with Galgal. And Aōd said, “I have a secret word for you, O king.” And Eglōm said to everyone, “Out of here!” and all his attendants went out from him.	19 And he himself turned back from the carvings that were with Galgal. And Aōd said, “I have a secret word for you, O king.” And Eglōm said to him, “Silence!” and he sent out from him all those who waited on him.

20 And Ehud came to him where he was sitting alone in his cool private chamber. And Ehud said, “I have a message from God for you.” And he arose out of his seat.

20 καὶ Ἀὼδ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς αὐτόν, καὶ αὐτὸς ἐκάθητο ἐν τῷ ὑπερῴῳ τῷ θερινῷ αὐτοῦ μονώτατος. καὶ εἶπεν Ἀὼδ Λόγος θεοῦ μοι πρὸς σέ, βασιλεῦ· καὶ ἐξανέστη ἀπὸ τοῦ θρόνου Ἐγλὼμ ἐγγὺς αὐτοῦ.	20 καὶ Ἀὼδ εἰσῆλθεν πρὸς αὐτόν· καὶ αὐτὸς ἐκάθητο ἐν τῷ ὑπερῴῳ τῷ θερινῷ τῷ ἑαυτοῦ μονώτατος. καὶ εἶπεν Ἀὼδ Λόγος θεοῦ μοι πρὸς σέ βασιλεῦ. καὶ ἐξανέστη ἀπὸ τοῦ θρόνου Ἐγλὼμ ἐγγὺς αὐτοῦ·
20 And Aōd entered to him, and he was sitting in his summer upper room alone. 21 And Ehud put forth his left hand, and took the dagger from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly.

21 καὶ ἐγένετο ἅμα τοῦ ἀναστῆναι ἐξέτεινεν Ἀὼδ τὴν χεῖρα τὴν ἀριστερὰν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν μάχαιραν ἀπὸ τοῦ μηροῦ τοῦ δεξιοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐνέπηξεν αὐτὴν εἰς τὴν κοιλίαν Ἐγλὼμ	21 καὶ ἐγένετο ἅμα τῷ ἀναστῆναι αὐτόν, καὶ ἐξέτεινεν Ἀὼδ τὴν χεῖρα τὴν ἀριστερὰν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔλαβεν τὴν μάχαιραν ἐπάνωθεν τοῦ μηροῦ αὐτοῦ τοῦ δεξιοῦ καὶ ἐνέπηξεν αὐτὴν ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ αὐτοῦ,
21 And it came to be, just as he rose up that Aōd stretched out his left hand and took the dagger from his right thigh and thrust it into the belly of Eglōm,	21 And it came to be, just as he rose up that Aōd reached with his left hand and took the dagger that was above his right thigh and thrust it into his belly,

22 And the handle also went in after the blade; and the fat closed over the blade, so that he couldn’t pull the dagger out of his belly; and the guts came out.

22 καὶ ἐπεισήνεγκεν καὶ γε τὴν λαβὴν ὀπίσω τῆς φλογός, καὶ ἀπέκλεισεν τὸ στέαρ κατὰ τῆς φλογός, ὅτι οὐκ ἐξέσπασεν τὴν μάχαιραν ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας αὐτοῦ.	22 καὶ ἐπεισήνεγκεν καὶ γε τὴν λαβὴν ὀπίσω τῆς φλογός· καὶ ἀπέκλεισεν τὸ στέαρ κατὰ τῆς φλογός, ὅτι οὐκ ἐξέσπασεν τὴν μάχαιραν ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας αὐτοῦ. καὶ ἐξῆλθεν Ἀὼδ τὴν προστάδα,
