Israēl Encouraged

1 Keep silence before me, Oh islands; and let the people renew their strength: let them come near; then let them speak: let’s come near together to judgment.

1 Be dedicated to me, Oh islands, for rulers will change strength; let them approach and speak together; then let them declare judgment. 1 Be dedicated to me, Oh islands, for rulers will change strength; let them approach and speak together; then let them declare judgment.

2 Who raised up the righteous man from the east, called him to his foot, gave the nations before him, and made him rule over kings? He gave them as the dust to his sword, and as driven stubble to his bow.

2 τίς ἐξήγειρεν ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν δικαιοσύνην, ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὴν κατὰ πόδας αὐτοῦ, καὶ πορεύσεται;
2 τίς ἐξήγειρεν ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν δικαιοσύνην, ἐκάλεσεν αὐτὴν κατὰ πόδας αὐτοῦ, καὶ πορεύσεται;
2 Who has roused righteousness from the east, called it to its feet and it will go?
He will place it before nations and astonish kings, and he will place their daggers in the land, and their bows like brushwood that is ejected.
2 Who has roused righteousness from the east, called it to its feet and it will go?
He will place it before nations and astonish kings, and he will place their daggers in the land, and their bows like brushwood that is ejected.

3 He pursued them, and passed safely; even by the way that he had not gone with his feet.

3 And he will pursue them, and the road of his feet will pass through in peace. 3 And he will pursue them, and the road of his feet will pass through in peace.

4 Who has wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I Yahweh, the first, and with the last; I am he.

4 τίς ἐνήργησεν καὶ ἐποίησεν ταῦτα;
4 τίς ἐνήργησε καὶ ἐποίησε ταῦτα;
4 Who has worked and done these things? The one calling her from the beginning of generations has called her. I, God, am first, and for the things that are coming, I am. 4 Who has worked and done these things? The one calling her from the beginning of generations has called her. I, God, am first, and for the things that are coming, I am.

5 The isles saw it, and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came.

5 The nations saw and became afraid; the height of the land drew near and came together, 5 The nations saw and became afraid; the height of the land drew near and came together,

6 They helped everyone his neighbour; and everyone said to his brother, Be of good courage.

6 each deciding to help his neighbour and his brother. And he will say. 6 each deciding to help his neighbour and his brother. And he will say.

7 So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he who smooths with the hammer him who smote the anvil, saying, It is ready for the soldering; and he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved.

7 The technician man has become strong, also the coppersmith as he hits with the hammer while at the same time forging.
At some time he will say, “The seam is good.” They have strengthened them with nails; they will set them up, and they won’t be moved.

At some time he will say, “The seam is good.” They have strengthened them with nails; they will set them up, and they won’t be moved.

8 But you, Israēl, are my servant, Jacōb whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend.

8 But you, Israēl, my servant, Jakōb, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, whom I have loved, 8 But you, Israēl, my servant, Jakōb, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, whom I have loved,

9 You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called you from the chief men of it, and said to you, You are my servant; I have chosen you, and not cast you away.

9 you whom I took hold of from the tops of the land, and I called you from its mountain peaks, and I said to you, “You are my servant; I have chosen you and I haven’t forsaken you”; 9 you whom I took hold of from the tops of the land, and I called you from its mountain peaks, and I said to you, “You are my servant; I have chosen you and I haven’t forsaken you”;

10 Fear not; for I am with you: don’t be dismayed; for I am your God: I will strengthen you; yes, I will help you; yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

10 Don’t fear, for I am with you; don’t wander about, for I am your God who has strengthened you, and I have helped you, and I have made you secure with my righteous right hand. 10 Don’t fear, for I am with you; don’t wander about, for I am your God who has strengthened you, and I have helped you, and I have made you secure with my righteous right hand.

11 Behold, all they who were incensed against you shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they who quarrel with you shall perish.

11 Look! All who oppose you shall be ashamed and humiliated, for they shall be as though they were not, and all your adversaries shall perish. 11 Look! All who oppose you shall be ashamed and humiliated, for they shall be as though they were not, and all your adversaries shall perish.

12 You shall seek them, and shall not find them, even those who contended with you: they who war against you shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nothing.

12 You shall seek them, but you won’t find the men who shall treat you violently, for they shall be as though they were not, and those who war against you shall not be, 12 You shall seek them, but you won’t find the men who shall treat you violently, for they shall be as though they were not, and those who war against you shall not be,

13 For I Yahweh your Elohim will hold your right hand, saying to you, Fear not; I will help you.

13 because I am your God, who holds your right hand, who says to you, “Don’t fear, 13 because I am your God, who holds your right hand, who says to you, “Don’t fear,

14 Don’t fear, you worm Jacōb, and you men of Israēl; I will help you, says Yahweh, and your redeemer, the Holy One of Israēl.

14 Oh Jakōb, Oh small Israēl.” I have helped you, says God who redeems you, Oh Israēl. 14 Oh Jakōb, Oh small Israēl.” I have helped you, says God who redeems you, Oh Israēl.

15 Behold, I will make you a new sharp threshing instrument having teeth: you shall thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and shall make the hills as chaff.

15 Look! I made you like the threshing wheels of a wagon, new like a saw, and you shall thresh mountains and grind hills and make them like dust. 15 Look! I made you like the threshing wheels of a wagon, new like a saw, and you shall thresh mountains and grind hills and make them like dust.

16 You shall fan them, and the wind shall carry them away, and the whirlwind shall scatter them; and you shall rejoice in Yahweh, and shall glory in the Holy One of Israēl.

16 And you shall winnow them, and a wind shall take them, and a storm shall scatter them. But you shall rejoice in the holy things of Israēl and be glad. 16 And you shall winnow them, and a wind shall take them, and a storm shall scatter them. But you shall rejoice in the holy things of Israēl.

17 When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue fails for thirst, I Yahweh will hear them, I Elohim of Israēl won’t forsake them.

17 And the poor and needy shall shall seek water, and there will be none; their tongue has been dried up from thirst.
I, the Lord God, I, the God of Israēl, will hear and I won’t forsake them.
17 And the poor and needy will be glad and shall shall seek water, and there will be none; their tongue has been dried up from thirst.
I, the Lord God, I, the God of Israēl, will hear and I won’t forsake them.

18 I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.

18 But I will open rivers on the mountains and fountains in the midst of the plains; I will make the wilderness into marshlands and the thirsty land as watercourses. 18 But I will open rivers on the mountains and fountains in the midst of the plains; I will make the wilderness into marshlands of water and the thirsty land as watercourses.

19 I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together.

19 Into the dry land I will put a cedar and a box tree and a myrtle and a cypress and a white poplar 19 Into the dry land I will put a cedar and a box tree and a myrtle and a cypress and a white poplar

20 That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of Yahweh has done this, and the Holy One of Israēl has created it.

20 in order that together they may see and know and consider and understand that the hand of the Lord has done all these things, and the Holy One of Israēl has presented them. 20 in order that together they may see and know and consider and understand that the hand of the Lord has done all these things, and the Holy One of Israēl has presented them.

21 Produce your cause, says Yahweh; bring forth your strong reasons, says the King of Jacōb.

21 Your judgment draws near, says the Lord God; your advices have drawn near, says the King of Jakōb. 21 Your judgment draws near, says the Lord God; your advices have drawn near, says the King of Jakōb.

22 Let them bring them forth, and show us what shall happen: let them show the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.

22 Let them draw near and declare to you the things that will occur or speak of the former things, what they were, and we will apply our mind and know what the last things will be; and tell us the things that are coming. 22 Let them draw near and declare to you the things that will occur or speak of the former things, what they were, and we will apply our mind and know what the last things will be; and tell us the things that are coming.

23 Show the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that you are gods: yes, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.

23 Tell us the things that are coming at the end, and we will know that you are gods; do good, and do harm, and we will wonder as well as see. 23 Tell us the things that are coming at the end, and we will know that you are gods; do good, and do harm, and we will wonder as well as see.

24 Behold, you are of nothing, and your work of nothing: an abomination is he who chooses you.

24 ὅτι πόθεν ἐστὲ ὑμεῖς καὶ πόθεν ἐργασία ὑμῶν;
24 ὅτι πόθεν ἐστὲ ὑμεῖς καὶ πόθεν ἐργασία ὑμῶν;
24 Because from where are you and from where is your work? Out of the ground. They have chosen you as an abomination. 24 Because from where are you and from where is your work? Out of the ground. They have chosen you as an abomination.

25 I have raised up one from the north, and he shall come: from the rising of the sun he shall call on my name; and he shall come on princes as on mortar, and as the potter treads clay.

25 But I stirred up the one who is from the north and the one who is from the rising of the sun; they shall be called by my name.
Let leaders come, and like potter’s clay; even as a potter treading clay; so you shall be trodden down.
25 But I stirred up the one who is from the north and the one who is from the rising of the sun; they shall be called by my name.
Let leaders come, and like potter’s clay; even as a potter treading clay; so you shall be trodden down.

26 Who has declared from the beginning, that we may know? And beforetime, that we may say, He is righteous? Yes, there is none that shows, yes, there is none that declares, yes, there is none that hears your words.

26 τίς γὰρ ἀναγγελεῖ τὰ ἐξ ἀρχῆς, ἵνα γνῶμεν καὶ τὰ ἔμπροσθεν, καὶ ἐροῦμεν ὅτι ἀληθῆ ἐστιν;
26 τίς γάρ ἀναγγελεῖ τὰ ἐξ ἀρχῆς, ἵνα γνῶμεν, καὶ τὰ ἔμπροσθεν, καὶ ἐροῦμεν ὅτι ἀληθῆ ἐστιν;
26 For who shall declare the things from the beginning in order that we might know them, and the former things, and we will say that they are true?
There is none who predicdts nor any who hears your words.
26 For who shall declare the things from the beginning in order that we might know them, and the former things, and we will say that they are true?
There is none who predicdts nor any who hears your words.

27 The first shall say to Zion, Behold, behold them; and I will give to Jerusalem one that brings good tidings.

27 I will give rule to Siōn, and I will encourage Jerousalēm on the way. 27 I will give rule to Siōn, and I will encourage Jerousalēm on the way.

28 For I beheld, and there was no man; even among them, and there was no counseller, that, when I asked of them, could answer a word.

28 ἀπὸ γὰρ τῶν ἐθνῶν ἰδοὺ οὐδείς, καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν εἰδώλων αὐτῶν οὐκ ἦν ἀναγγέλλων· καὶ ἐὰν ἐρωτήσω αὐτούς πόθεν ἐστέ, οὐ μὴ ἀποκριθῶσίν μοι. 28 ἀπὸ γὰρ τῶν ἐθνῶν ἰδοὺ οὐδείς, καὶ ἀπὸ τῶν εἰδώλων αὐτῶν οὐκ ἦν ἀναγγέλλων· καὶ ἐὰν ἐρωτήσω αὐτούς· πόθεν ἐστέ;
28 For from among the nations, look, no one, and from among their idols, there was none who are telling.
And if I should ask them, From where are you? They won’t answer me,
28 For from among the nations, look, no one, and from among their idols, there was none who are telling.
And if I should ask them, From where are you? They won’t answer me,

29 Behold, they are all vanity; their works are nothing: their molten images are wind and confusion.

29 for the ones who make you and the ones who mislead you are vain. 29 for the ones who make you and the ones who mislead you are vain.
