Birth and Reign of the Prince of Peace
1 [M 8:23] Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.

1 And the one who is in distress will not be perplexed for a season. Do this first; do it quickly, Oh country of Zaboulōn, the land of Nephthalim, and the rest who inhabit the road by the sea and beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations, the parts of Judea. | 1 And the one who is in distress will not be perplexed for a season. 2 [M 9:1]
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light: they who dwell in the land of the shadow of death, on them has the light shined.
2 Oh people who walk in darkness, see a great light! The ones who live in the country and in the shadow of death, a light will shine on you! | 2 Oh people who walk in darkness, see a great light! The ones who live in the country and in the shadow of death, a light will shine on you! |
[M 9:2] You have multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before you according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
3 Most of the people, whom you have brought back in your joy, will also rejoice before you like those who rejoice at the harvest and in the same way as those who divide spoil, | 3 Most of the people, whom you have brought back in your joy, will also rejoice before you like those who rejoice at the harvest and in the same way as those who divide spoil, |
[M 9:3] For you have broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
4 because the yoke placed on them has been taken away, and the rod that is on their neck; for the Lord has scattered the rod of the extortioners as on the day that was on Madiam. | 4 because the yoke placed on them has been taken away, and the rod that is on their neck; for the Lord has scattered the rod of the extortioners as on the day that was on Madiam. |
5 [M 9:4] For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
5 because with collection they shall repay every garment and cloak acquired by deceit, and they will be willing to do so even if they have been burned by fire, | 5 because with collection they shall repay every garment and cloak acquired by deceit, and they will be willing to do so even if they have been burned by fire, |
6 [M 9:5] For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be on his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
6 because a child was born for us, a son also given to us, whose sovereignty was on his shoulder, and his name is called a Messenger of a great plan, for I will bring peace on the leaders, peace and health to him. | 6 because a child was born for us, a son also given to us, whose sovereignty was on his shoulder, and his name is called a Messenger of a great plan, [wonderful, counsellor, mighty God, potentate, prince of peace, father of the age to come] for I will bring peace on the leaders, peace and health to him. |
7 [M 9:6] Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of Yahweh of armies will perform this.
7 His sovereignty is great, and his peace has no borders on the throne of David and his kingdom, to make it prosper and to secure it with righteousness and with judgment from now and to eternal time. The zeal of the Lord Sabaōth will do these things. | 7 His sovereignty is great, and his peace has no borders on the throne of David and his kingdom, to make it prosper and to secure it with righteousness and with judgment from now and to eternal time. The zeal of the Lord Sabaōth will do these things. |
God’s Anger with Israēl’s Arrogance
8 [M 9:7] The Lord sent a word into Jacōb, and it has lighted on Israēl.
8 The Lord sent death against Jakōb, and it came on Israēl, | 8 The Lord sent death against Jakōb, and it came on Israēl, |
9 [M 9:8] And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart,
9 and all the people of Ephraim and those who sit in Samaria with pride and uplifted heart will know it, saying. | 9 and all the people of Ephraim and those who sit in Samaria with pride and uplifted heart will know it, saying. |
10 [M 9:9] The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.
10 “The bricks have fallen, but come, let us hew stones and cut down sycamores and cedars and build ourselves a tower.” | 10 “The bricks have fallen, but come, let us hew stones and cut down sycamores and cedars and build ourselves a tower.” |
11 [M 9:10] Therefore Yahweh shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;
11 And God will throw down those who rise up against them on Mount Siōn, and he will scatter their enemies, | 11 And God will throw down those who rise up against them on Mount Siōn, and he will scatter their enemies, |
12 [M 9:11] The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and t11hey shall devour Israēl with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

For all this, his anger has not turned away; but his hand is still uplifted. | 12 Syria from the rising of the sun and the Greeks from the setting of the sun; those who devour Israēl with open mouth. For all this, his anger has not turned away; but his hand is still uplifted. |
13 [M 9:12] For the people turns not to him who smites them, neither do they seek Yahweh of armies.
13 And the people didn’t turn back until they were hit, and they didn’t seek the Lord. | 13 And the people didn’t turn back until they were hit, and they didn’t seek the Lord. |
14 [M 9:13] Therefore Yahweh will cut off from Israēl head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.
14 And the Lord removed head and tail from Israēl, great and small in one day, | 14 And the Lord removed head and tail from Israēl, great and small in one day, |
15 [M 9:14] The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teaches lies, he is the tail.
15 the elder and those who respect persons: this is the beginning, and a prophet teaching lawless things, he is the tail. | 15 the elder and those who respect persons: this is the beginning, and a prophet teaching lawless things, he is the tail. |
16 [M 9:15]
For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they who are led of them are destroyed.
16 And those who bless this people will mislead, and they mislead them in order to devour them. | 16 And those who bless this people will mislead, and they mislead them in order to devour them. |
17 [M 9:16] Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows; for everyone is a hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

17 Therefore God will not rejoice over their young men, and he won’t have compassion on their orphans and their widows; because they are all lawless and evil, and every mouth speaks injustices. By all this, his anger has not turned away, but his hand is still uplifted. | 17 Therefore God will not rejoice over their young men, and he won’t have compassion on their orphans and their widows; because they are all lawless and evil, and every mouth speaks injustices. 18 [M 9:17] For wickedness burns as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.
18 And the lawlessness will burn like a fire, and like dry grass will it be consumed by fire, and it will burn in the thickets of the forest and devour everything around the hills. | 18 And the lawlessness will burn like a fire, and like dry grass will it be consumed by fire, and it will burn in the thickets of the forest and devour everything around the hills. |
19 [M 9:18] Through the wrath of Yahweh of armies is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother.

A man won’t have compassion on his brother. | 19 The whole land is set on fire because of the wrath of anger of the Lord, and the men will be completely burned as by fire. A man won’t have compassion on his brother. |
20 [M 9:19] And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm.
