11:1 Λέγω οὖν, μὴ ἀπώσατο θεὸς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ;
1 Λέγω οὖν, μὴ ἀπώσατο θεὸς τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ;
I say then, God has not rejected his people, has he? Certainly not! For I also am an Israēlite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. I say then, God has not rejected his people, has he? Certainly not! For I also am an Israēlite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
οὐκ οἴδατε ἐν Ἠλίᾳ τί λέγει γραφή, ὡς ἐντυγχάνει τῷ θεῷ κατὰ τοῦ Ἰσραήλ;
οὐκ οἴδατε ἐν Ἠλίᾳ τί λέγει γραφή;
God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says about Ēlijah, how he appeals to God concerning Israēl? God has not rejected his people whom he foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says about Ēlijah? how he appeals to God concerning Israēl saying,
“Lord, they have killed your prophets, they have torn down your altars, and I alone am left, and they are seeking my life.”[1] “Lord, they have killed your prophets and they have torn down your altars, and I alone am left, and they are seeking my life.”[1]
11:4 ἀλλὰ τί λέγει αὐτῷ χρηματισμός;
4 ἀλλὰ τί λέγει αὐτῷ χρηματισμός;
But what is the divine response to him? “I have left for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”[2] But what is the divine response to him? “I have left for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”[2]
Thus now also, at this time there happens to be a remnant according to an election of grace. Thus now also, at this time there happens to be a remnant according to an election of grace.
But if it is by grace, it is no longer by works, otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is by grace, it is no longer by works, otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
11:7 Τί οὖν;
7 Τί οὖν;
What then? What Israēl is seeking, it has not obtained, but those who were elected did obtain it, but the rest were hardened; What then? What Israēl is seeking, it has not obtained, but those who were elected did obtain it, but the rest were hardened;
11:11 Λέγω οὖν, μὴ ἔπταισαν ἵνα πέσωσιν;
11 Λέγω οὖν, μὴ ἔπταισαν, ἵνα πέσωσι;
I say then, they didn’t stumble in order to fall, did they? Certainly not! But by their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles, to provoke them to jealousy. I say then, they didn’t stumble in order to fall, did they? Certainly not! But by their transgression, salvation has come to the Gentiles, to provoke them to jealousy.
11:12 εἰ δὲ τὸ παράπτωμα αὐτῶν πλοῦτος κόσμου καὶ τὸ ἥττημα αὐτῶν πλοῦτος ἐθνῶν, πόσῳ μᾶλλον τὸ πλήρωμα αὐτῶν. 12 εἰ δὲ τὸ παράπτωμα αὐτῶν πλοῦτος κόσμου, καὶ τὸ ἥττημα αὐτῶν πλοῦτος ἐθνῶν, πόσῳ μᾶλλον τὸ πλήρωμα αὐτῶν;
Now if their transgression became riches for the world and their failure became riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be! Now if their transgression became riches for the world and their failure became riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be?
But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministry,
if somehow I will provoke to jealousy those of my flesh and save some of them. if somehow I will provoke to jealousy those of my flesh and save some of them.
11:15 εἰ γὰρ ἀποβολὴ αὐτῶν καταλλαγὴ κόσμου, τίς πρόσλημψις εἰ μὴ ζωὴ ἐκ νεκρῶν; 15 εἰ γὰρ ἀποβολὴ αὐτῶν, καταλλαγὴ κόσμου, τίς πρόσλημψις, εἰ μὴ ζωὴ ἐκ νεκρῶν;
For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be except life from the dead? For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be except life from the dead?
If the beginning of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too. If the beginning of dough is holy, the lump is also; and if the root is holy, the branches are too.
But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree, But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the root and the riches of the olive tree,
don’t be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, realize that you don’t support the root, but the root supports you. don’t be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, realize that you don’t support the root, but the root supports you.
You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.”
True enough! They were broken off for unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Don’t be conceited, but fear; True enough! They were broken off for unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Don’t be conceited, but fear;
[otherwise/perhaps] for if God didn’t spare the natural branches, he will not spare you, either. for if God didn’t spare the natural branches, he will not spare you, either.
Observe then the goodness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, God’s goodness, if you continue in his goodness; otherwise you will be cut off too. Observe then the goodness and severity of God; to those who fell, severity, but to you, goodness, if you continue in his goodness; otherwise you will be cut off too.
And they also, if they don’t continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. And they also, if they don’t continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.
11:24 εἰ γὰρ σὺ ἐκ τῆς κατὰ φύσιν ἐξεκόπης ἀγριελαίου καὶ παρὰ φύσιν ἐνεκεντρίσθης εἰς καλλιέλαιον, πόσῳ μᾶλλον οὗτοι οἱ κατὰ φύσιν ἐγκεντρισθήσονται τῇ ἰδίᾳ ἐλαίᾳ. 24 εἰ γὰρ σὺ ἐκ τῆς κατὰ φύσιν ἐξεκόπης ἀγριελαίου, καὶ παρὰ φύσιν ἐνεκεντρίσθης εἰς καλλιέλαιον, πόσῳ μᾶλλον οὗτοι οἱ κατὰ φύσιν, ἐγκεντρισθήσονται τῇ ἰδίᾳ ἐλαίᾳ;
For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted into what is contrary by nature a good olive tree, how much more will these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree? For if you were cut off from what is by nature a wild olive tree, and were grafted into what is contrary by nature a good olive tree, how much more will these who are the natural branches be grafted into their own olive tree?
For I don’t want you, brothers, to be uninformed about this mystery, so that you will not be wise in yourselves. A partial hardening has happened to Israēl until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; For I don’t want you, brothers, to be uninformed about this mystery, so that you will not be wise in yourselves. A partial hardening has happened to Israēl until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in;
and so all Israēl will be saved; just as it is written, “The Deliverer will come out of Ziōn, he will remove ungodliness from Jacōb.” and so all Israēl will be saved; just as it is written, “The Deliverer will come out of Ziōn, he will remove ungodliness from Jacōb.”
According to the gospel, they are enemies for your sake, but according to God’s election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers; According to the gospel, they are enemies for your sake, but according to God’s election they are beloved for the sake of the fathers;
for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.
For just as you once were disobedient to God, but now you have received mercy by their disobedience, For just as you once were disobedient to God, but now you have received mercy by their disobedience,
so these also now have been disobedient, that by mercy shown to you they also may now be shown mercy. so these also now have been disobedient, that by mercy shown to you they also may now be shown mercy.
For God has confined all in disobedience so that he may show mercy to all. For God has confined all in disobedience so that he may show mercy to all.
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! Thus his judgments are unsearchable and his ways are inscrutable! Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! Thus his judgments are unsearchable and his ways are inscrutable!
11:34 Τίς γὰρ ἔγνω νοῦν κυρίου;
τίς σύμβουλος αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο;
34 Τίς γὰρ ἔγνω νοῦν κυρίου;
τίς σύμβουλος αὐτοῦ ἐγένετο;
For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became his counsellor? For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became his counsellor?
11:35  τίς προέδωκεν αὐτῷ, καὶ ἀνταποδοθήσεται αὐτῷ; 35  τίς προέδωκεν αὐτῷ, καὶ ἀνταποδοθήσεται αὐτῷ;
Or who has first given to him, and it shall be paid back to him again6[6] Or who has first given to him, and it shall be paid back to him again6[6]
For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amēn. For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever. Amēn.
