For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.
For while not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own [righteousness], they didn’t subject themselves to the righteousness of God. For while not knowing about God’s righteousness and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they didn’t subject themselves to the righteousness of God.
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.
For Mōsēs writes about the man who practices the righteousness which is based on Torah. That same man shall live by them.[1] For Mōsēs writes about the man who practices the righteousness which is based on Torah. That same man shall live by them.[1]
10:6  δὲ ἐκ πίστεως δικαιοσύνη οὕτως λέγει, Μὴ εἴπῃς ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου, Τίς ἀναβήσεται εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν;
6  δὲ ἐκ πίστεως δικαιοσύνη οὕτως λέγει, Μὴ εἴπῃς ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου, Τίς ἀναβήσεται εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν;
Now the righteousness based on faith speaks thus: “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’[2] (that is, to bring Christ down), Now the righteousness based on faith speaks thus: “Don’t say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’[2] (that is, to bring Christ down),
10:7 , τίς καταβήσεται εἰς τὴν ἄβυσσον;
7 , τίς καταβήσεται εἰς τὴν ἄβυσσον;
or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).” or ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead).”
10:8 ἀλλὰ τί λέγει;
8 ἀλλὰ τί λέγει;
But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”[3], that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”[3], that is, the word of faith which we are preaching,
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved; that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved;
for with the heart a person believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses unto salvation. for with the heart a person believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses unto salvation.
For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.”[4] For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in him will not be disappointed.”[4]
for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”[5] for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”[5]
10:14 Πῶς οὖν ἐπικαλέσωνται εἰς ὃν οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν;
πῶς δὲ πιστεύσωσιν οὗ οὐκ ἤκουσαν;
πῶς δὲ ἀκούσωσιν χωρὶς κηρύσσοντος;
14 Πῶς οὖν ἐπικαλέσονται εἰς ὃν οὐκ ἐπίστευσαν;
πῶς δὲ πιστεύσουσιν οὗ οὐκ ἤκουσαν;
πῶς δὲ ἀκούσουσι χωρὶς κηρύσσοντος;
How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without preaching? How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without preaching?
10:15 πῶς δὲ κηρύξωσιν ἐὰν μὴ ἀποσταλῶσιν;
15 πῶς δὲ κηρύξουσιν, ἐὰν μὴ ἀποσταλῶσι;
How would they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!”[6] How would they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring the good news of peace, the good news of good things!”[6]
Ἠσαΐας γὰρ λέγει, Κύριε, τίς ἐπίστευσεν τῇ ἀκοῇ ἡμῶν;
16 Ἀλλ᾿ οὐ πάντες ὑπήκουσαν τῷ εὐαγγελίῳ· Ἠσαΐας γὰρ λέγει, Κύριε, τίς ἐπίστευσε τῇ ἀκοῇ ἡμῶν;
However, they didn’t all respond to the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?”[7] However, they didn’t all respond to the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?”[7]
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
10:18 ἀλλὰ λέγω, μὴ οὐκ ἤκουσαν;
18 ἀλλὰ λέγω, μὴ οὐκ ἤκουσαν;
But I say, have they never heard? Yes indeed! “Their message sound has gone out into all the earth,
And their words to the ends of the inhabited world.”[8]
But I say, have they never heard? Yes indeed! “Their message sound has gone out into all the earth,
And their words to the ends of the inhabited world.”[8]
10:19 ἀλλὰ λέγω, μὴ Ἰσραὴλ οὐκ ἔγνω;
19 ἀλλὰ λέγω, μὴ οὐκ ἔγνω Ἰσραήλ;
But I say, Israēl didn’t know, did they? First Mōsēs says, “I will make you jealous by what is not a nation,
By a nation without understanding will I provoke you to anger.”[9]
But I say, Israēl didn’t know, did they? First Mōsēs says, “I will make you jealous by what is not a nation,
By a nation without understanding will I provoke you to anger.”[9]
And Isaiah is very bold and says, “I was found by those who didn’t seek me,
I became manifest to those who didn’t ask for me.”[10]
And Isaiah is very bold and says, “I was found by those who didn’t seek me,
I became manifest to those who didn’t ask for me.”[10]
But as for Israēl he says, “All the day long I have stretched out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”[11] But as for Israēl he says, “All the day long I have stretched out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people.”[11]
