I Samuel

1 And Hannah prayed, and said, “My heart rejoices in Yahweh, my horn is exalted in Yahweh: my mouth is enlarged over my enemies; because I rejoice in your salvation.

1 καὶ εἶπεν ἐστερεώθη ἡ καρδία μου ἐν κυρίῳ, ὑψώθη κέρας μου ἐν θεῷ μου· ἐπλατύνθη ἐπὶ ἐχθροὺς τὸ στόμα μου, εὐφράνθην ἐν σωτηρίᾳ σου.	1 ἐστερεώθη ἡ καρδία μου ἐν Κυρίῳ, ὑψώθη κέρας μου ἐν Θεῷ μου· ἐπλατύνθη ἐπ’ ἐχθρούς μου τὸ στόμα μου, εὐφράνθην ἐν σωτηρίᾳ σου.

3 Stop speaking so very proudly; don’t let arrogancy come out of your mouth; for Yahweh is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

4 The bows of the mighty men are broken, and those who stumbled are girded with strength.

11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child ministered to Yahweh before Eli the priest.

12 Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they didn’t know Yahweh.

13 And the priests’ custom with the people was, that, when any man offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the meat was in boiling, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot. All that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh to all the Israēlites who came to that place.

14 and he thrust it into the great cauldron or into the copper-kettle or into the earthen-pot; all that came up on the meat hook the priest would take for himself. 15 Also before they burned the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man who sacrificed, “Give meat for roasting for the priest; for he won’t have boiled meat from you, but raw.”

16 And if any man said to him, “Don’t let them fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as your soul desires”; then he would answer him, “No; but you shall give it to me now; and if not, I will take it by force.”

17 Therefore the sin of the young men was very great before Yahweh; for men abhorred the offering of Yahweh.

18 But Samuel ministered before Yahweh, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, “May Yahweh give you children of this woman for the loan which is lent to Yahweh.” And they went to their own home.

21 And Yahweh visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and gave birth to three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before Yahweh.

22 Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did to all Israēl; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tent of the congregation.

23 And he said to them, “Why do you such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.

24 No, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: you make Yahweh’s people to transgress.

27 And there came a man of God to Eli, and said to him, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘Did I plainly appear to the house of your father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh’s house?

35 καὶ ἀναστήσω ἐμαυτῷ ἱερέα πιστόν, ὃς πάντα τὰ ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ μου καὶ τὰ ἐν τῇ ψυχῇ μου ποιήσει· καὶ οἰκοδομήσω αὐτῷ οἶκον πιστόν, καὶ διελεύσεται ἐνώπιον Χριστοῦ μου πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας.	35 καὶ ἀναστήσω ἐμαυτῷ ἱερέα πιστόν, ὃς πάντα τὰ ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ μου καὶ τὰ ἐν τῇ ψυχῇ μου ποιήσει· καὶ οἰκοδομήσω αὐτῷ οἶκον πιστόν, καὶ διελεύσεται ἐνώπιον χριστοῦ μου πάσας τὰς ἡμέρας.
