I Kings

1 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam fell sick.

בָּעֵת הַהִיא חָלָה אֲבִיָּה בֶן ־ יָרָבְעָם׃

1 καὶ ἠρρώστησε τὸ παιδάριον αὐτοῦ ἀρρωστίαν κραταιὰν σφόδρα· καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ἰεροβοὰμ ἐπερωτῆσαι ὑπὲρ τοῦ παιδαρίου·	1 Ἐν τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ ἠρρώστησεν Ἀβιὰ υἱὸς Ἱεροβοὰμ
1 And his young child was sick with a very severe sickness; and Jeroboam went to inquire concerning the child.	1 At that time, Abia, Jeroboam’s son became ill.

2 And Jeroboam said to his wife, Arise, please, and disguise yourself, that you aren’t known to be the wife of Jeroboam; and get you to Shiloh: behold, there is Ahijah the prophet, which told me that I should be king over this people.

וַיֹּאמֶר יָרָבְעָם לְאִשְׁתֹּו קוּמִי נָא וְהִשְׁתַּנִּית וְלֹא יֵדְעוּ כִּי ־ אַתִּי אֵשֶׁת יָרָבְעָם וְהָלַכְתְּ שִׁלֹה הִנֵּה ־ שָׁם אֲחִיָּה הַנָּבִיא הוּא ־ דִבֶּר עָלַי לְמֶלֶךְ עַל ־ הָעָם הַזֶּה׃

2 καὶ εἶπε πρὸς Ἀνὼ τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ ἀνάστηθι καὶ πορεύου, ἐπερώτησον τὸν θεὸν ὑπὲρ τοῦ παιδαρίου, εἰ ζήσεται ἐκ τῆς ἀρρωστίας αὐτοῦ.	2 καὶ εἶπε ὁ Ἱεροβοὰμ πρὸς τὴν γυναῖκα αὐτοῦ· ἀνάστηθι καὶ ἀλλοιωθήσῃ, καὶ οὐ γνώσονται ὅτι σὺ γυνὴ Ἱεροβοάμ, καὶ πορευθήσῃ εἰς Σηλώ· καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐκεῖ Ἀχιὰ ὁ προφήτης, αὐτὸς ἐλάλησεν ἐμὲ τοῦ βασιλεῦσαι ἐπὶ τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον.
2 and he said to Anō his wife, “Arise, go, inquire of God concerning the child, whether he will live from his sickness.	2 and Jeroboam said to his wife, “Arise, you will be disguised and won’t be known that you are Jeroboam’s wife, and depart into Sēlō and behold there is Achia the prophet, this one told me I shall rule over this people.

3 And take with you ten loaves, and cracknels, and a cruse of honey, and go to him: he shall tell you what shall become of the child.

וְלָקַחַתְּ בְּיָדֵךְ עֲשָׂרָה לֶחֶם וְנִקֻּדִים וּבַקְבֻּק דְּבַשׁ וּבָאת אֵלָיו הוּא יַגִּיד לָךְ מַה ־ יִּהְיֶה לַנָּעַר׃

3 καὶ λαβὲ εἰς τὴν χεῖρά σου τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τοῦ θεοῦ ἄρτους καὶ κολλύρια τοῖς τέκνοις αὐτοῦ καὶ σταφυλὴν καὶ στάμνον μέλιτος.	3 καὶ λαβὲ εἰς τὴν χεῖρά σου τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἄρτους καὶ κολλυρίδα τοῖς τέκνοις αὐτοῦ καὶ σταφίδας καὶ στάμνον μέλιτος, καὶ ἐλεύσῃ πρὸς αὐτόν. αὐτὸς ἀναγγείλῃ σοι τί ἔσται τῷ παιδί.

4 And Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. But Ahijah couldn’t see; for his eyes were set by reason of his age.

וַתַּעַשׂ כֵּן אֵשֶׁת יָרָבְעָם וַתָּקָם וַתֵּלֶךְ שִׁלֹה וַתָּבֹא בֵּית אֲחִיָּה וַאֲחִיָּהוּ לֹא ־ יָכֹל לִרְאֹות כִּי קָמוּ עֵינָיו מִשֵּׂיבֹו׃ ס

4 καὶ ἀνέστη ἡ γυνὴ καὶ ἔλαβεν εἰς τὴν χεῖρα αὐτῆς ἄρτους καὶ δύο κολλύρια καὶ σταφυλὴν καὶ στάμνον μέλιτος τῷ Ἀχία· καὶ ὁ ἄνθρωπος πρεσβύτερος, καὶ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ ἠμβλυώπουν τοῦ βλέπειν.	4 καὶ ἐποίησεν οὕτως γυνὴ Ἱεροβοάμ· καὶ ἀνέστη καὶ ἐπορεύθης εἰς Σηλώ, καὶ εἰσῆλθεν ἐν οἴκῳ Ἀχιά· καὶ ὁ ἄνθρωπος πρεσβύτερος τοῦ ἰδεῖν, καὶ ἠμβλυώπουν οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ ἀπὸ γήρους αὐτοῦ.
4 And the woman arose, and took in her hand bread, and two cakes, and grapes, and a pot of honey, for Achia. and the man was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he couldn’t see.	4 And the wife of Jeroboam did this. And she arose and went to Sēlō, and she entered the house of Achia. And the man was old of sight, and his eyes were dim from his age.

5 And Yahweh said to Ahijah, Behold, the wife of Jeroboam comes to ask a thing of you for her son; for he is sick: thus and thus you shall say to her; for it shall be, when she comes in, that she shall feign herself to be another woman.

וַיהוָה אָמַר אֶל ־ אֲחִיָּהוּ הִנֵּה אֵשֶׁת יָרָבְעָם בָּאָה לִדְרֹשׁ דָּבָר מֵעִמְּךָ אֶל ־ בְּנָהּ כִּי ־ חֹלֶה הוּא כָּזֹה וְכָזֶה תְּדַבֵּר אֵלֶיהָ וִיהִי כְבֹאָהּ וְהִיא מִתְנַכֵּרָה׃

5 καὶ Κύριος εἶπε πρὸς Ἀχιά· ἰδοὺ γυνὴ τοῦ Ἱεροβοὰμ εἰσέρχεται τοῦ ἐκζητῆσαι ῥῆμα παρὰ σοῦ περὶ υἱοῦ αὐτῆς, ὅτι ἄρρωστός ἔστι· κατὰ τοῦτο καὶ κατὰ τοῦτο λαλήσεις πρὸς αὐτήν. καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ εἰσέρχεσθαι αὐτὴν καὶ αὐτὴ ἀπεξενοῦτο.	5 N/A
5 And the Lord said to Achia, “ Behold, the wife of Jeroboam comes to ask a thing of you concerning her son; for he is sick: this and this you shall say to her. for it shall be, when she comes in, that she shall disguise herself. ”	5 N/A

6 And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet as she came in at the door, that he said, Come in, you wife of Jeroboam; why invented you yourself to be another? for I am sent to you with heavy tidings.

וַיְהִי כִשְׁמֹעַ אֲחִיָּהוּ אֶת ־ קֹול רַגְלֶיהָ בָּאָה בַפֶּתַח וַיֹּאמֶר בֹּאִי אֵשֶׁת יָרָבְעָם לָמָּה זֶּה אַתְּ מִתְנַכֵּרָה וְאָנֹכִי שָׁלוּחַ אֵלַיִךְ קָשָׁה׃

6 εἴσελθε καὶ μὴ στῇς, ὅτι τάδε λέγει κύριος σκληρὰ ἐγὼ ἐπαποστελῶ ἐπὶ σέ.	6 καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤκουσεν Ἀχιὰ τὴν φωνὴν ποδῶν αὐτῆς, εἰσερχομένης αὐτῆς ἐν τῷ ἀνοίγματι, καὶ εἶπε· εἴσελθε, γυνὴ Ἱεροβοάμ· ἱνατί σὺ τοῦτο ἀποξενοῦσαι; καὶ ἐγώ εἰμι ἀπόστολος πρός σε σκληρός.
6 “Come in, and don’t stand still; for thus says the Lord, ‛I send grievous tidings to you.’	6 And it came to be as Achia heard her footsteps, she entered in the doorway, and he said, “Come in, wife of Jeroboam, why do you disguise yourself like this? I am a messenger to you of a hard thing.

7 Go, tell Jeroboam, Thus says Yahweh Elohim of Israēl, Forasmuch as I exalted you from among the people, and made you prince over my people Israēl,

לְכִי אִמְרִי לְיָרָבְעָם כֹּה ־ אָמַר יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל יַעַן אֲשֶׁר הֲרִימֹתִיךָ מִתֹּוךְ הָעָם וָאֶתֶּנְךָ נָגִיד עַל עַמִּי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

7 πορευθεῖσα εἰπὸν τῷ Ἱεροβοάμ· τάδε λέγει Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς Ἰσραήλ· ἀνθ’ οὗ ὅσον ὕψωσά σε ἀπὸ μέσου λαοῦ καὶ ἔδωκά σε ἡγούμενον ἐπὶ τὸν λαόν μου Ἰσραήλ,	7 N/A
7 Go, say to Jeroboam: thus says the Lord God of Israēl, I exalted you greatly from among the people and gave you to be ruler over my people Israēl	7 N/A

8 And rent the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it you; and yet you haven’t been as my servant David, who kept my commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do that only which was right in my eyes;

וָאֶקְרַע אֶת ־ הַמַּמְלָכָה מִבֵּית דָּוִד וָאֶתְּנֶהָ לָךְ וְלֹא ־ הָיִיתָ כְּעַבְדִּי דָוִד אֲשֶׁר שָׁמַר מִצְוֹתַי וַאֲשֶׁר ־ הָלַךְ אַחֲרַי בְּכָל ־ לְבָבֹו לַעֲשֹׂות רַק הַיָּשָׁר בְּעֵינָי׃

8 καὶ ἔρρηξα σὺν τὸ βασίλειον ἀπὸ τοῦ οἴκου Δαυὶδ καὶ ἔδωκα αὐτό σοι καὶ οὐκ ἐγένου ὡς ὁ δοῦλός μου Δαυίδ, ὃς ἐφύλαξε τὰς ἔντολάς μου καὶ ὃς ἐπορεύθης ὀπίσω μου ἐν πάσῃ καρδίᾳ αὐτοῦ ποιῆσαι ἕκαστος τὸ εὐθὲς ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς μου	8 N/A
8 And he also tore the kingdom from the house of David and gave it to you; but you didn’t come to be as my servant David who kept my commandments and who walked before me with all his heart to do all that was morally right in my eyes.	8 N/A

9 But have done evil above all who were before you; for you have gone and made you other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and have cast me behind your back.

וַתָּרַע לַעֲשֹׂות מִכֹּל אֲשֶׁר ־ הָיוּ לְפָנֶיךָ וַתֵּלֶךְ וַתַּעֲשֶׂה ־ לְּךָ אֱלֹהִים אֲחֵרִים וּמַסֵּכֹות לְהַכְעִיסֵנִי וְאֹתִי הִשְׁלַכְתָּ אַחֲרֵי גַוֶּךָ׃ ס

9 καὶ ἐπονηρεύσω τοῦ ποιῆσαι παρὰ παντός, ὅσοι ἐγένοντο εἰς πρόσωπόν σου καὶ ἐπορεύθης καὶ ἐποίησας σεαυτῷ θεοὺς ἑτέρους χωνευτὰ τοῦ παροργίσαι με καὶ ἐμὲ ἔρριψας ὀπίσω σώματός σου·	9 N/A
9 And you have acted wickedly to do above all those who came before you, and went and presented yourself to other molten gods by provoking me and you threw me behind your body.	9 N/A

10 Therefore, behold, I will bring evil on the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam him who pisses against the wall, and him who is shut up and left in Israēl, and will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man takes away dung, till it be all gone.

לָכֵן הִנְנִי מֵבִיא רָעָה אֶל ־ בֵּית יָרָבְעָם וְהִכְרַתִּי לְיָרָבְעָם מַשְׁתִּין בְּקִיר עָצוּר וְעָזוּב בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל וּבִעַרְתִּי אַחֲרֵי בֵית ־ יָרָבְעָם כַּאֲשֶׁר יְבַעֵר הַגָּלָל עַד ־ תֻּמֹּו׃

10 ὅτι τάδε λέγει κύριος ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἐξολεθρεύσω τοῦ Ἰεροβοὰμ οὐροῦντα πρὸς τοῖχον,	10 διὰ τοῦτο ἐγὼ ἄγω κακίαν πρός σε εἰς οἶκον Ἱεροβοάμ· ἐξολοθρεύσω τοῦ Ἱεροβοὰμ οὐροῦντα πρὸς τοῖχον ἐχόμενον καὶ ἐγκαταλελειμμένον ἐν Ἰσραὴλ καὶ ἐπιλέξω οἴκου Ἱεροβοάμ, καθὼς ἐπιλέγεται ἡ κόπρος, ὡς τελειωθῆναι αὐτόν·
10 for thus says the Lord, Behold, I will destroy everyone of Jeroboam who urinates toward the wall,	10 because I will bring evil to you on the house of Jeroboam; and I will destroy from Jeroboam him who urinates toward the wall and I will remove him who has been left in Israēl of the house of Jeroboam just as dung is removed until it is finished.

11 He who dies of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and he who dies in the field shall the fowls of the air eat; for Yahweh has spoken it.

הַמֵּת לְיָרָבְעָם בָּעִיר יֹאכְלוּ הַכְּלָבִים וְהַמֵּת בַּשָּׂדֶה יֹאכְלוּ עֹוף הַשָּׁמָיִם כִּי יְהוָה דִּבֵּר׃

11 καὶ ἔσονται οἱ τεθνηκότες τοῦ Ἰεροβοὰμ ἐν τῇ πόλει καταφάγονται οἱ κύνες, καὶ τὸν τεθνηκότα ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ καταφάγεται τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ. καὶ τὸ παιδάριον κόψονται οὐαὶ κύριε, ὅτι εὑρέθη ἐν αὐτῷ ῥῆμα καλὸν περὶ τοῦ κυρίου.	11 οἱ τεθνηκότες τοῦ Ἱεροβοὰμ ἐν τῇ πόλει, καταφάγονται οἱ κύνες, καὶ τὸν τεθνηκότα ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ καταφάγονται τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ, ὅτι Κύριος ἐλάλησε.
11 and there shall be the dead of Jeroboam in the city, them the dogs shall eat, and the dead in the field, them the birds of heaven. And they shall lament the child: Woe is me, Lord! For there has been found in him some good thing concerning the Lord.	11 and the dead of Jeroboam in the city, the dogs shall eat, and the dead in the field, the birds of heaven shall eat, because the Lord spoke.

12 Arise therefore, get to your own house; and when your feet enter into the city, the child shall die.

וְאַתְּ קוּמִי לְכִי לְבֵיתֵךְ בְּבֹאָה רַגְלַיִךְ הָעִירָה וּמֵת הַיָּלֶד׃

12 καὶ σὺ ἀναστᾶσα πορεύθητι εἰς τὸν οἶκόν σου· ἐν τῷ εἰσέρχεσθαι πόδα σου τὴν πόλιν, ἀποθανεῖται τὸ παιδάριον·	12 N/A
12 Arise and go into your house; as your foot enters the city, the child will die.	12 N/A

13 And all Israēl shall mourn for him, and bury him; for he only of Jeroboam shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward Yahweh Elohim of Israēl in the house of Jeroboam.

וְסָפְדוּ ־ לֹו כָל ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל וְקָבְרוּ אֹתֹו כִּי ־ זֶה לְבַדֹּו יָבֹא לְיָרָבְעָם אֶל ־ קָבֶר יַעַן נִמְצָא ־ בֹו דָּבָר טֹוב אֶל ־ יְהוָה אֱלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל בְּבֵית יָרָבְעָם׃

13 καὶ κόψονται αὐτὸν πᾶς Ἰσραὴλ καὶ θάψουσιν αὐτόν, ὅτι οὗτος μόνος εἰσελεύσεται τῷ Ἱεροβοὰμ πρὸς τάφον, ὅτι εὑρέθη ἐν αὐτῷ ῥῆμα καλὸν περὶ τοῦ Κυρίου Θεοῦ Ἰσραὴλ ἐν οἴκῳ Ἱεροβοάμ·	13 N/A
13 And all Israēl will mourn for him and bury him, for this is the only one of Jeroboam who will enter a grave, because in him there is found a good thing concerning the Lord God of Israēl in the house of Jeroboam.	13 N/A

14 Moreover Yahweh shall raise him up a king over Israēl, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day; but what? even now.

וְהֵקִים יְהוָה לֹו מֶלֶךְ עַל ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר יַכְרִית אֶת ־ בֵּית יָרָבְעָם זֶה הַיֹּום וּמֶה גַּם ־ עָתָּה׃

14 καὶ ἀναστήσει Κύριος ἑαυτῷ βασιλέα ἐπὶ Ἰσραήλ, ὃς πλήξει τὸν οἶκον Ἱεροβοάμ ταύτῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ· καὶ τί καὶ νῦν;	14 N/A
14 And the Lord will raise up for him a king in Israēl who will attack the house of Jeroboam in that day; and what? And now?	14 N/A

15 For Yahweh shall smite Israēl, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he shall root up Israēl out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall scatter them beyond the river, because they have made their groves, provoking Yahweh to anger.

וְהִכָּה יְהוָה אֶת ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל כַּאֲשֶׁר יָנוּד הַקָּנֶה בַּמַּיִם וְנָתַשׁ אֶת ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל מֵעַל הָאֲדָמָה הַטֹּובָה הַזֹּאת אֲשֶׁר נָתַן לַאֲבֹותֵיהֶם וְזֵרָם מֵעֵבֶר לַנָּהָר יַעַן אֲשֶׁר עָשׂוּ אֶת ־ אֲשֵׁרֵיהֶם מַכְעִיסִים אֶת ־ יְהוָה׃

15 Κύριος πλήξει τὸν Ἰσραήλ, καθὰ κινεῖται ὁ ἄνεμος ἐν τῷ ὕδατι, καὶ ἐκτελεῖ τὸν Ἰσραὴλ ἀπὸ ἄνω τῆς χθονὸς τῆς ἀγαθῆς ταύτης, ἧς ἔδωκε τοῖς πατράσιν αὐτῶν, καὶ λικμήσει αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ· ἀνθ’ οὗ ὅσον ἐποίησαν τὰ ἄλση αὐτῶν παροργίζοντες τὸν Κύριον·	15 N/A
15 The Lord will attack Israēl, just as the wind moves on the water, and shall finish up Israēl from this good earth, which he gave to their fathers and grind them from beyond the river; because they made their groves making the Lord angry.	15 N/A

16 And he shall give Israēl up because of the sins of Jeroboam, who did sin, and who made Israēl to sin.

וְיִתֵּן אֶת ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל בִּגְלַל חַטֹּאות יָרָבְעָם אֲשֶׁר חָטָא וַאֲשֶׁר הֶחֱטִיא אֶת ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

16 καὶ παραδώσει Κύριος τὸν Ἰσραὴλ χάριν ἁμαρτιῶν Ἱεροβοάμ, ὃς ἥμαρτε καὶ ὃς ἐξήμαρτε τὸν Ἰσραήλ.	16 N/A
16 and the Lord shall hand Israēl over on account of the sins of Jeroboam who sinned and who made Israēl to sin.”	16 N/A

17 And Jeroboam’s wife arose, and departed, and came to Tirzah; and when she came to the threshold of the door, the child died;

וַתָּקָם אֵשֶׁת יָרָבְעָם וַתֵּלֶךְ וַתָּבֹא תִרְצָתָה הִיא בָּאָה בְסַף ־ הַבַּיִת וְהַנַּעַר מֵת׃

17 καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ἡ γυνή, ὡς ἤκουσεν, καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἰσῆλθεν εἰς τὴν Σαριρά, καὶ τὸ παιδάριον ἀπέθανεν,	17 καὶ ἀνέστη ἡ γυνὴ Ἱεροβοὰμ καὶ ἐπορεύθης εἰς γῆν Σαριρά· καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς εἰσῆλθεν ἐν τῷ προθύρῳ τοῦ οἴκου καὶ τὸ παιδάριον ἀπέθανε.
17 And the woman departed, when she heard this; and it happened as she entered into Sarira, the child died;	17 And the wife of Jeroboam departed and went into Sarira. And it happened as she entered into the threshold of the house, the child died;

18 And they buried him; and all Israēl mourned for him, according to the word of Yahweh, which he spoke by the hand of his servant Ahijah the prophet.

וַיִּקְבְּרוּ אֹתֹו וַיִּסְפְּדוּ ־ לֹו כָּל ־ יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּדְבַר יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר דִּבֶּר בְּיַד ־ עַבְדֹּו אֲחִיָּהוּ הַנָּבִיא׃

18 καὶ ἐξῆλθεν ἡ κραυγὴ εἰς ἀπαντήν.	18 καὶ ἔθαψαν αὐτὸν καὶ ἐκόψαντο αὐτὸν πᾶς Ἰσραήλ, κατὰ τὸ ῥῆμα Κυρίου, ὃν ἐλάλησεν ἐν χειρὶ δούλου αὐτοῦ Ἀχιὰ τοῦ προφήτου.
18 and there came forth a wailing to meet her.	18 and they buried him and all Israēl mourned him, according to the word of the Lord which he spoke by the hand of his servant Achia the prophet.

19 And the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he warred, and how he reigned, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israēl.

וְיֶתֶר דִּבְרֵי יָרָבְעָם אֲשֶׁר נִלְחַם וַאֲשֶׁר מָלָךְ הִנָּם כְּתוּבִים עַל ־ סֵפֶר דִּבְרֵי הַיָּמִים לְמַלְכֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל׃

19 καὶ περισσὸν ῥημάτων Ἱεροβοάμ, ὅσα ἐπολέμησε καὶ ὅσα ἐβασίλευσεν, ἰδοὺ αὐτὰ γεγραμμένα ἐπὶ βιβλίου ῥημάτων τῶν ἡμερῶν τῶν βασιλέων Ἰσραὴλ.	19 N/A

20 And the days which Jeroboam reigned were 22 years; and he slept with this fathers, and Nadab his son reigned in his stead.

וְהַיָּמִים אֲשֶׁר מָלַךְ יָרָבְעָם עֶשְׂרִים וּשְׁתַּיִם שָׁנָה וַיִּשְׁכַּב עִם ־ אֲבֹתָיו וַיִּמְלֹךְ נָדָב בְּנֹו תַּחְתָּיו׃ פ
