(Mt 19.1‑12)

After coming to Jesus, some Pharisees began to question him if it is lawful for a man to divorce a wife, testing him. After coming to Jesus, some Pharisees began to question him if it is lawful for a man to divorce a wife, testing him.
10:3  δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, τί ὑμῖν ἐνετείλατο Μωϋσῆς; 3  δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, τί ὑμῖν ἐνετείλατο Μωσῆς;
And in response to them, he said, “What did Mōsēs command you?” And in response to them, he said, “What did Mōsēs command you?”
Then they said, “Mōsēs permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.”[1] Then they said, “Mōsēs permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.”[1]
But Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardheartedness he wrote this commandment for you. in response, Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardheartedness he wrote this commandment for you.
But from the beginning of creation, he made them male and female.[2] But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female.[2]
and the two shall become one flesh;[3] so they are no longer two, but one flesh. and the two shall become one flesh;[3] so they are no longer two, but one flesh.
What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”
And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her;
and if she herself divorces her husband and marries another, she is committing adultery.” and if a woman herself divorces her husband and marries another, she is committing adultery.”

Little Children Blessed
(Mt 19.13‑15; Lk 18.15‑17)

And they kept bringing children to him so that he might touch them; but the disciples rebuked them. And they kept bringing children to him so that he might touch them; but the disciples kept rebuking the ones bringing them.

Truly I say to you, whoever doesn’t receive the kingdom of God as a child does will never enter into it.” Truly I say to you, whoever doesn’t receive the kingdom of God as a child does will never enter into it.”

The Rich Man
(Mt 19.16‑30; Lk 18.18‑30)

10:17 καὶ ἐκπορευομένου αὐτοῦ εἰς ὁδὸν προσδραμὼν εἷς καὶ γονυπετήσας αὐτὸν ἐπηρώτα αὐτόν, διδάσκαλε ἀγαθέ, τί ποιήσω ἵνα ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω; 17 καὶ ἐκπορευομένου αὐτοῦ εἰς ὁδόν, προσδραμὼν εἷς καὶ γονυπετήσας αὐτὸν ἐπηρώτα αὐτόν, διδάσκαλε ἀγαθέ, τί ποιήσω ἵνα ζωὴν αἰώνιον κληρονομήσω;
As he was travelling out on a journey, one man ran up and after kneeling before him, he asked him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do in order that I could inherit eternal life?” As he was travelling out on a journey, one man ran up and after kneeling before him, he asked him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do in order that I could inherit eternal life?”
And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except one, God. And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except one, God.

And he said to him, “Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up.” And in response, he said to him, “Teacher, I have kept all these things from my youth up.”
Then looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” Then looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him, “One thing you lack: go and sell all you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me, take up the cross.”
But being saddened at these words, he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property. But being saddened at these words, he went away grieving, for he was one who owned much property.
After looking at them, Jesus said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.” After looking at them, Jesus said, “With men it is impossible, but not with God; for all things are possible with God.”
Peter began to say to him, “Look, we have left everything and followed you.” Then Peter began to say to him, “Look, we have left everything and followed you.”
Jesus began saying, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for my sake and for the gospel’s sake, In response, Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or wife, or children or farms, for the sake of me and the gospel,
but he will receive a hundred times as much now in this age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life. but he will receive a hundred times as much now in this age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.
But many who are first will be last, and the last, first.” But many who are first will be last, and the last, first.”

Request of James and Jōhn
(Mt 20.20‑28)

Jacōb and Jōhn, the two sons of Zebedee, came toward him saying, “Teacher, we want that you should do for us whatever we ask you.” Jacōb and Jōhn, the two sons of Zebedee, came toward him saying, “Teacher, we want that you should do for us whatever we ask.”
10:36  δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, τί θέλετέ [με] ποιήσω ὑμῖν; 36  δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, τί θέλετε ποιῆσαί με ὑμῖν;
And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?” And he said to them, “What do you want me to do for you?”
Then they said to him, “Grant to us that one may sit on your right and one on your left, in your glory.” Then they said to him, “Grant to us that one may sit on your right and one on your left, in your glory.”
10:38  δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, οὐκ οἴδατε τί αἰτεῖσθε. δύνασθε πιεῖν τὸ ποτήριον ἐγὼ πίνω τὸ βάπτισμα ἐγὼ βαπτίζομαι βαπτισθῆναι; 38  δὲ Ἰησοῦς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, οὐκ οἴδατε τί αἰτεῖσθε. δύνασθε πιεῖν τὸ ποτήριον ἐγὼ πίνω, καὶ τὸ βάπτισμα ἐγὼ βαπτίζομαι, βαπτισθῆναι;
But Jesus said to them, “You don’t know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?” But Jesus said to them, “You don’t know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, and to be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized?”
They said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you shall drink; and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized, They said to him, “We are able.” And Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you shall drink; and you shall be baptized with the baptism with which I am baptized;
But to sit on my right or on my left, this is not mine to give; but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.” But to sit on my right or on my left, this is not mine to give; but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.”
And after hearing this, the ten began to feel indignant with Jacōb and Jōhn. And after hearing this, the ten began to feel indignant with Jacōb and Jōhn.
But it is not this way among you, but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant, But it is not this way among you, but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant;
and whoever wants to be first among you shall be slave of all; and whoever wants to be first among you shall be slave of all;

And many were rebuking him in order that he should be silent; but he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And many were rebuking him in order that he should be silent; but he kept calling out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
And when Jesus stood still, he said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take courage, stand up! he is calling for you.” And when Jesus stood still, he said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take courage, stand up! he is calling for you.”
