I Samuel

1 Now it happened on a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man who carried his armour, Come, and let’s go over to the Philistines’ garrison, that is on the other side. But he told not his father.

8 Then said Jonathan, Behold, we will pass over to these men, and we will discover ourselves to them.

11 And both of them discovered themselves to the garrison of the Philistines; and the Philistines said, Behold, the Hebrews come forth out of the holes where they had hid themselves.

12 And the men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armourbearer, and said, Come up to us, and we will show you a thing. And Jonathan said to his armourbearer, Come up after me; for Yahweh has delivered them into the hand of Israēl.

13 καὶ ἀνέβη Ἰωνάθαν ἐπὶ τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ καὶ ὁ αἴρων τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ μετ’ αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐπέβλεψαν κατὰ πρόσωπον Ἰωνάθαν, καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτούς, καὶ ὁ αἴρων τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ ἐπεδίδου ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ.	13 καὶ ἀνέβη Ἰωνάθαν ἐπὶ τὰς χεῖρας αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐπὶ τοὺς πόδας αὐτοῦ καὶ ὁ αἴρων τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ μετ’ αὐτοῦ· καὶ ἐπέβλεψαν κατὰ πρόσωπον Ἰωνάθαν, καὶ ἐπάταξεν αὐτούς, καὶ ὁ αἴρων τὰ σκεύη αὐτοῦ ἐπεδίδου ὀπίσω αὐτοῦ.

14 And that first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was about 20 men, within as it were a half acre of land, which a yoke of oxen might plow.

16 And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and, behold, the multitude melted away, and they went on beating down one another.

17 Then said Saul to the people who were with him, Number now, and see who is gone from us. And when they had numbered, behold, Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there.

17 And Saoul said to the people who were with him, “Please call the roll and see who has gone from us,” and they called the roll, and look! 42 And Saul said, Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.

43 Then Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what you have done. And Jonathan told him, and said, I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand, and, lo, I must die.

43 And Saoul said to Jōnathan, “Tell me what you have done.” And Jōnathan told him and said, “Aftr tasting, I tasted a little honey with the tip of the sceptre that was in my hand; look! 45 And the people said to Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has wrought this great salvation in Israēl? God forbid: as Yahweh lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has wrought with God this day. So the people rescued Jonathan, that he didn’t die.
