Warning against Hypocrisy

Meanwhile, after a crowd of ten thousand had gathered together so that they were trampling on one another, he began saying to his disciples first of all, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. Meanwhile, after a crowd of ten thousand had gathered together so that they were trampling on one another, he began saying to his disciples first of all, “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
But there is nothing covered over that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known. But there is nothing covered over that will not be revealed, and hidden that will not be known.
Therefore, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops. Therefore, whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops.

Whom to Fear
(Matt 10:28-31)

“I say to you, my friends, don’t become afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do. “I say to you, my friends, don’t become afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do.
But I will warn you whom you must fear: fear the One who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into Gehenna; yes, I tell you, fear this one! But I will warn you whom you must fear: fear the One who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into Gehenna; yes, I tell you, fear this one!
Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Stop being afraid! You are worth more than many sparrows. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Stop being afraid! You are worth more than many sparrows.

Confessing Christ before Men
(Matt 10:32-33; 12:32)

And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven.
When they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, don’t worry about how or what you are to speak in your defence, or what you are to say; When they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, don’t worry about how or what you are to speak in your defence, or what you are to say;
for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what is necessary to say.” for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what is necessary to say.”

Parable of Rich Fool

Then he said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for a person’s life is not made of the abundance of his possessions.” Then he said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for a person’s life is not made of the abundance of his possessions.”
And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very fertile. And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very fertile.
12:17 καὶ διελογίζετο ἐν ἑαυτῷ λέγων, τί ποιήσω, ὅτι οὐκ ἔχω ποῦ συνάξω τοὺς καρπούς μου; 17 καὶ διελογίζετο ἐν ἑαυτῷ λέγων, τί ποιήσω, ὅτι οὐκ ἔχω ποῦ συνάξω τοὺς καρπούς μου;
And he kept reasoning to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I don’t have a place to store my crops?’ And he kept reasoning to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I don’t have a place to store my crops?’
Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and I will store all my grain and my goods there. Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and I will store all my produce and my goods there.
And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods stored up for many years to come; relax, eat, drink and be merry.”’ And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods stored up for many years to come; relax, eat, drink and be merry.”’

So is the one who treasures things for himself, and is not rich toward God.” So is the one who treasures things for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

Worry
(Matt 6:25; 14:19-21)

And he said to his disciples, “For this reason I say to you, don’t worry about life, what you will eat; nor for your body, what you will wear. And he said to his disciples, “For this reason I say to you, don’t worry about your life, what you will eat; nor for your body, what you will wear.
For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.
12:26 εἰ οὖν οὐδὲ ἐλάχιστον δύνασθε, τί περὶ τῶν λοιπῶν μεριμνᾶτε; 26 εἰ οὖν οὔτε ἐλάχιστον δύνασθε, τί περὶ τῶν λοιπῶν μεριμνᾶτε;
If then you are not able to do the smallest thing, why do you worry about the rest? If then you are not able to do the smallest thing, why do you worry about the rest?
Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither work nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomōn in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither work nor spin; but I tell you, not even Solomōn in all his glory clothed himself like one of these.
12:28 εἰ δὲ ἐν ἀγρῷ τὸν χόρτον ὄντα σήμερον καὶ αὔριον εἰς κλίβανον βαλλόμενον θεὸς οὕτως ἀμφιέζει, πόσῳ μᾶλλον ὑμᾶς, ὀλιγόπιστοι. 28 εἰ δὲ τὸν χόρτον ἐν τῷ ἀγρῷ σήμερον ὄντα, καὶ αὔριον εἰς κλίβανον βαλλόμενον, θεὸς οὕτως ἀμφιέννυσι, πόσῳ μᾶλλον ὑμᾶς, ὀλιγόπιστοι;
But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will he clothe you? Oh little faith ones! But if God so clothes the grass in the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will he clothe you? Oh little faith ones!
And don’t seek what you might eat and what you might drink, and stop worrying. And don’t seek what you might eat and what you might drink, and stop worrying.
For all these things the nations of the world seek; but your Father knows that you need these things. For all these things the nations of the world seek; but your Father knows that you need these things.
Nevertheless seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you. Nevertheless seek God’s kingdom, and all these things will be added to you.
Stop being afraid, little flock, for your Father was pleased to give you the kingdom. Stop being afraid, little flock, for your Father was pleased to give you the kingdom.
“Sell your possessions and give a charitable donation; make yourselves money belts that don’t wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys. “Sell your possessions and give a charitable donation; make yourselves money belts that don’t wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys.

Watchful Servants
(Matt 24:45-51)

“Let your waist belt be secured, and keep your lamps burning. “Let your waist belt be secured, and keep your lamps burning.
Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that after coming and knocking, they may immediately open to him. Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that after coming and knocking, they may immediately open to him.
Blessed are those slaves whom after coming, the master will find watchful; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and cause them recline at the table, and after proceeding, will serve them. Blessed are those slaves whom after coming, the master will find watchful; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and cause them recline at the table, and after proceeding, will serve them.
Whether he comes in the second, or even in the third watch, and finds them so, blessed are those. Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third watch, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.
“But know this, that if the homeowner had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be burglarized. “But know this, that if the homeowner had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would have watched and not have allowed his house to be burglarized.
You also, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you don’t expect.” You also, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you don’t expect.”
12:41 εἶπεν δὲ Πέτρος, κύριε, πρὸς ἡμᾶς τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην λέγεις καὶ πρὸς πάντας; 41 εἶπε δὲ αὐτῷ Πέτρος, κύριε, πρὸς ἡμᾶς τὴν παραβολὴν ταύτην λέγεις καὶ πρὸς πάντας;
Peter said, “Lord, are you addressing this parable to us, or to all men also?” Peter said, “Lord, are you addressing this parable to us, or to all men also?”
12:42 καὶ εἶπεν κύριος, τίς ἄρα ἐστὶν πιστὸς οἰκονόμος φρόνιμος, ὃν καταστήσει κύριος ἐπὶ τῆς θεραπείας αὐτοῦ τοῦ διδόναι ἐν καιρῷ [τὸ] σιτομέτριον; 42 εἶπε δὲ κύριος, τίς ἄρα ἐστὶν πιστὸς οἰκονόμος καὶ φρόνιμος, ὃν καταστήσει κύριος ἐπὶ τῆς θεραπείας αὐτοῦ, τοῦ διδόναι ἐν καιρῷ τὸ σιτομέτριον;
And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and intelligent manager, whom his master will appoint over his servants, to give them their rations[2] on time? And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and intelligent manager, whom his master will appoint over his servants, to give them their rations[2] on time?
Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions.
the master of that slave will come on a day when he doesn’t expect him and at an hour he doesn’t know, and will cut him apart, and appoint him a portion with the unbelievers. the master of that slave will come on a day when he doesn’t expect him and at an hour he doesn’t know, and will cut him apart, and appoint him a portion with the unbelievers.
And that slave who knew his master’s will and didn’t prepare or act in accord with his will, will be whipped with many lashes, And that slave who knew his master’s will and didn’t prepare or act in accord with his will, will be whipped with many lashes,

Jesus brings Division
(Matt 10:34-36)

12:49 πῦρ ἦλθον βαλεῖν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν, καὶ τί θέλω εἰ ἤδη ἀνήφθη. 49 πῦρ ἦλθον βαλεῖν εἰς τὴν γῆν, καὶ τί θέλω εἰ ἤδη ἀνήφθη;
“I have come to throw fire upon the land; and how I wish it were already ignited! “I have come to throw fire upon the land; and how I wish it were already ignited!
12:50 βάπτισμα δὲ ἔχω βαπτισθῆναι, καὶ πῶς συνέχομαι ἕως ὅτου τελεσθῇ. 50 βάπτισμα δὲ ἔχω βαπτισθῆναι, καὶ πῶς συνέχομαι ἕως οὗ τελεσθῇ;
But I have a baptism to be baptized, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished! But I have a baptism to be baptized, and how distressed I am until it is accomplished!
12:51 δοκεῖτε ὅτι εἰρήνην παρεγενόμην δοῦναι ἐν τῇ γῇ;
51 δοκεῖτε ὅτι εἰρήνην παρεγενόμην δοῦναι ἐν τῇ γῇ;
Do you suppose that I arrived to give peace on the land? No, I say to you, but rather division; Do you suppose that I arrived to give peace on the land? No, I say to you, but rather division;
for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three.
