Teaching about Prayer
(Matt 6:9-15; 7:7-11)

And he said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, let your name be hallowed. Let your kingdom come. And he said to them, “When you pray, say: ‘Father, let your name be hallowed. Let your kingdom come. Let your will happen as in heaven and upon the earth.
‘And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And don't start to lead us into temptation.’” ‘And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And don't start to lead us into temptation but deliver us from evil.’”
Then he said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves; Then he said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves;
for my friend has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; for my friend has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’;
and from inside in response, he says, ‘Don’t bother me; the door has already been shut and my children and I are in bed; I cannot get up to give to you.’ and from inside in response, he says, ‘Don’t bother me; the door has already been shut and my children and I are in bed; I cannot get up to give to you.’
I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs. I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
“So I say to you, keep asking, and it will be given to you; keep seeking, and you will find; keep knocking, and it will be opened to you. “So I say to you, keep asking, and it will be given to you; keep seeking, and you will find; keep knocking, and it will be opened to you.
For everyone who keeps asking, receives; and he who keeps seeking, finds; and to him who keeps knocking, it will be opened. For everyone who keeps asking, receives; and he who keeps seeking, finds; and to him who keeps knocking, it will be opened.
11:11 τίνα δὲ ἐξ ὑμῶν τὸν πατέρα αἰτήσει υἱὸς ἰχθύν, καὶ ἀντὶ ἰχθύος ὄφιν αὐτῷ ἐπιδώσει; 11 τίνα δὲ ὑμῶν τὸν πατέρα αἰτήσει υἱὸς ἄρτον, μὴ λίθον ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ;
εἰ καὶ ἰχθύν, μὴ ἀντὶ ἰχθύος ὄφιν ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ;
Now suppose a son asks his father of one of you for a fish, and instead of a fish will he give him a snake? Now suppose a son asks his father of one of you for bread, he will not give him a stone, will he? And if a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he?
11:12  καὶ αἰτήσει ᾠόν, ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ σκορπίον; 12  καὶ ἐὰν αἰτήσῃ ᾠόν, μὴ, ἐπιδώσει αὐτῷ σκορπίον;
Or suppose he will also ask for an egg, will he give him a scorpion? Or suppose he will also ask for an egg, he will not give him a scorpion, will he?

Jesus and Beelzebul
(Matt 12:22-30; Mark 3:20-27)

And he was casting out a demon, and it was mute; but after the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds were amazed. And he was casting out a demon, and it was mute; but after the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds were amazed.
But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons.” But some of them said, “He casts out demons by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons.”
But having known their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is devastated; and a house against a house falls. But having known their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is devastated; and a house against a house falls.
But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. But if I cast out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
But after someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armour on which he had relied and distributes his plunder. But after someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, he takes away from him all his armour on which he had relied and distributes his plunder.
He who is not with me is against me; and he who doesn’t gather with me, scatters. He who is not with me is against me; and he who doesn’t gather with me, scatters.

Return of the Unclean Spirit
(Matt 12:43-45)

“When the unclean spirit goes out from a man, it passes through dry places seeking rest, and not finding any; then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came out.’ “When the unclean spirit goes out from a man, it passes through dry places seeking rest, and not finding any; it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came out.’
And after it comes, it finds it swept and put in order. And after it comes, it finds it swept and put in order.
Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and after going in, they live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first.” Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and after going in, they live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first.”

True Blessedness

And it happened as he was saying these things, after raising her voice, one of the women in the crowd said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” And it happened as he was saying these things, after raising her voice, one of the women in the crowd said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.”
But he said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and follow.” But he said, “On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and follow it.”

Demanding a Sign
(Matt 12:38-42; Mark 8:12)

As the crowds were increasing, he began to say, “This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jōnah. As the crowds were increasing, he began to say, “This generation is wicked; it seeks a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jōnah the prophet.
The Queen of the South will rise up in judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, because she came from the farthest parts of the land to hear the wisdom of Solomōn. Now listen! Someone greater than Solomōn is here. The Queen of the South will rise up in judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them, because she came from the farthest parts of the land to hear the wisdom of Solomōn. Now listen! Someone greater than Solomōn is here.
At the judgment, the men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jōnah. Now listen! Someone greater than Jōnah is here. At the judgment, the men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jōnah. Now listen! Someone greater than Jōnah is here.

Light of the Body
(Matt 5:16; 6:22-23)

“After lighting a lamp, no one puts it away in a cellar nor under a container, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. “After lighting a lamp, no one puts it away in a cellar nor under a container, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light.
Therefore watch out that the light in you is not darkness. Therefore watch out that the light in you is not darkness.
If therefore your whole body is illumined, having no dark part, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its light ray.” If therefore your whole body is illumined, having no dark part, it will be wholly illumined, as when the lamp illumines you with its light ray.”

Denouncing Pharisees and Lawyers
(Matt 23:1-36; Mark 12:38-40; Luke 20:45-47)

Now when he had spoken, a Pharisee asked him to eat a noon meal with him; after entering, he reclined at the table. Now when he had spoken, a Pharisee asked him to eat a noon meal with him; after entering, he reclined at the table.
After seeing it, the Pharisee was surprised that he had not first ceremonially washed before the meal. After seeing it, the Pharisee was surprised that he had not first ceremonially washed before the meal.
But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the platter; but your inside is full of robbery and wickedness. But the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and of the platter; but your inside is full of robbery and wickedness.
11:40 ἄφρονες, οὐχ ποιήσας τὸ ἔξωθεν καὶ τὸ ἔσωθεν ἐποίησεν; 40 ἄφρονες, οὐχ ποιήσας τὸ ἔξωθεν καὶ τὸ ἔσωθεν ἐποίησε;
Foolish! Didn’t the one who made the outside also make the inside? Foolish! Didn’t the one who made the outside also make the inside?
But give a charitable donation from the things within and suddenly! all things are clean for you. But give a charitable donation from the things within and suddenly! all things are clean for you.
“But woe to you Pharisees! For you pay tithe of mint and rue-herb and every herb, and yet overlook justice and the love of God; but it is necessary to do these things without neglecting the others. “But woe to you Pharisees! For you pay tithe of mint and rue-herb and every herb, and yet overlook justice and the love of God; but it is necessary to do these things without neglecting the others.
And in response to him, one of the lawyers said, “Teacher, when saying these things, you insult us too.” And in response to him, one of the lawyers said, “Teacher, when saying these things, you insult us too.”
Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, but your fathers were the ones who killed them. Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, but your fathers were the ones who killed them.
Therefore you are witnesses and approve the deeds of your fathers; because it was they who killed them, and you yourselves build their tombs. Therefore you are witnesses and approve the deeds of your fathers; because it was they who killed them, and you yourselves build their tombs.
For this reason also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute, For this reason also the wisdom of God said, ‘I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,
so that the blood of all the prophets, poured out since the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation, so that the blood of all the prophets, poured out since the foundation of the world, may be charged against this generation,
from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah,[1] who was destroyed between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be charged against this generation.’ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah,[1] who was destroyed between the altar and the house of God; yes, I tell you, it shall be charged against this generation.’
Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge; you yourselves didn’t enter, and you hindered those who were entering.” Woe to you lawyers! For you have taken away the key of knowledge; you yourselves didn’t enter, and you hindered those who were entering.”
plotting against him to catch him in something coming out of his mouth. plotting against him and seeking to catch him in something coming out of his mouth in order to accuse him.

[1]Abel is in Gen 4:8 and Zechariah is in 2Chron 24:20-21 which is the record of the first book of the Hebrew Bible and the last book of the Hebrew Bible, thus confirming the cannonicity of the entire Old Testament.
