Greatest Gift: Love
If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don’t have love, I have become a loud brass bell or a clanging cymbal. | If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don’t have love, I have become a loud brass bell or a clanging cymbal. |
If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but I don’t have love, I am nothing. | If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but I don’t have love, I am nothing. |
And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body in order to speak loudly, but don’t have love, it profits me nothing. | And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body in order to speak loudly, but don’t have love, it profits me nothing. |
Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love doesn’t brag and is not arrogant, | Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love doesn’t brag and is not arrogant, |
It doesn’t act disgracefully; it doesn’t seek its own, is not provoked, doesn’t add up each wrong, | It doesn’t act disgracefully; it doesn’t seek its own, is not provoked, doesn’t add up each wrong, |
doesn’t rejoice over the errors of others, but rejoices in the truth; | doesn’t rejoice over the errors of others, but rejoices in the truth; |
it keeps all confidences, it trusts all things, it hopes all things, it endures all things. | it keeps all confidences, it trusts all things, it hopes all things, it endures all things. |
Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be set aside; if there are languages, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be set aside. | Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be set aside; if there are languages, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be set aside. |
For we know in part and we prophesy in part; | For we know in part and we prophesy in part; |
but when the perfect comes, the partial will be set aside. | but when the perfect comes, then the partial will be set aside. |
When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I set aside the things of the child. | When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I set aside the things of the child. |
For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know clearly just as I also have been clearly known. | For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know clearly just as I also have been clearly known. |
But now remains these three things: faith, hope, love; but the greatest of these is love. | But now remains these three things: faith, hope, love; but the greatest of these is love. |
