The Living Stone

Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all defamation, Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
like newborn babies, desire for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in relation to salvation, like newborn babies, desire for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow,
if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.
And coming to him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is chosen and precious before God, And coming to him as to a living stone which has been rejected by men, but is chosen and precious before God,
you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
For this is contained in scripture: “Listen! I lay in Ziōn a choice, precious corner stone, and he who believes in him will never be disappointed.”[3] For this is contained in the scripture: “Listen! I lay in Ziōn a choice, precious corner stone, and he who believes in him will never be disappointed.”[3]
This privilege, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, “The stone which the builders rejected, This became the corner stone,”[4] This privilege, then, is for you who believe; but for those who disbelieve, “The stone which the builders rejected, This became the corner stone,”[4]
and, “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offence”;[5] for they keep stumbling at the word, disobeying in regard to what they were also appointed. and, “A stone of stumbling and a rock of offence”;[5] for they keep stumbling at the word, disobeying in regard to what they were also appointed.
But you are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of him who has called”[6] you out of darkness into his marvellous light; But you are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of him who has called”[6] you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
for you once were not a people,
but now you are the people of God;
you had not received mercy,
but now you have received mercy.
for you once were not a people,
but now you are the people of God;
you had not received mercy,
but now you have received mercy.

Live as Servants of God

Keep your behaviour excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation. Keep your behaviour excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.
For the Lord’s sake, subject yourselves to every human institution, whether to a king as in authority, For the Lord’s sake, subject yourselves to every human institution, whether to a king as in authority,
or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do good. or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do good.
Because such is the will of God that by doing good you may silence the ignorance of foolish men. Because such is the will of God that by doing good you may silence the ignorance of foolish men.
Act as free men, and don’t use your freedom as a cloak for evil, but use it as slaves of God. Act as free men, and don’t use your freedom as a cloak for evil, but use it as slaves of God.

Example of Christ’s Suffering

Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are cantankerous. Servants, be submissive to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and gentle, but also to those who are cantankerous.
For this is grace, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly. For this is grace, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly.
2:20 ποῖον γὰρ κλέος εἰ ἁμαρτάνοντες καὶ κολαφιζόμενοι ὑπομενεῖτε;
20 ποῖον γὰρ κλέος, εἰ ἁμαρτάνοντες καὶ κολαφιζόμενοι ὑπομενεῖτε;
For what benefit is there if, when you sin and are beat up, you patiently endure it? But if when you do what is good and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this is favour with God. For what benefit is there if, when you sin and are beat up, you patiently endure it? But if when you do what is good and suffer for it you patiently endure it, this is favour with God.
For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you in order that you might follow in his steps, For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you in order that you might follow in his steps,
and while being insulted, he didn’t insult in return; while suffering, he didn’t threaten, but he kept entrusting himself to him who judges righteously; and while being insulted, he didn’t insult in return; while suffering, he didn’t threaten, but he kept entrusting himself to him who judges righteously;
and he himself carried our sins in his body on the tree, so that upon dying to sin, we might live to righteousness; for by the wounds you were healed. and he himself carried our sins in his body on the tree, so that upon dying to sin, we might live to righteousness; for by his wounds you were healed.
For you were like straying sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and overseer of your souls. For you were like straying sheep, but now you have returned to the shepherd and overseer of your souls.
